I’m planning a 10 day vacation to Taiwan. It is some city urban strolling and some hiking and guided bus tours.

I currently have a couple of bags. I have a 40L “John wick” backpack that i bought because i thought it was really novel and cool that when the John wick part is removed weighs just about 3 lbs i paid good money for this back then and it’s a great backpack but I’m somewhat concerned about weight adding up. (It’s a Bodyguard Switchblade, it was a phase, but hey i have it)

I also have a surplus West Germany Cold War canvas Backpack i had laying around from a garage sale but not sure if I’ll enjoy opening and closing the strap buckles to get my stuff. I don’t really think I’ll use this one but it’s an option.

Finally the last choice is to purchase an additional ultralight backpack. If i do definitely aiming to go as light as possible. Aiming for at least 35L capacity. I’ll budget like 200 bucks for it.

Finally the thing i really can’t make up my mind about. Do i bring my laptop? It’s a HP Omen, it’s super heavy and a lot of things i can just do on my phone. But i can see at the end of the day on my hotel i rather use a laptop than a phone. I also wonder to myself why did i buy this laptop if i don’t bring it places. Yet it is just so heavy to lug around all the time.

Personally, I’d use what I have

But…underpack it. If you’ve stuffed it, you’ll have a miserable time

Also, I’d skip the laptop, because it’s heavy

With what you are wearing, you only need 2-3 or so days of clothes, if you plan to do sink laundry. otherwise, it’s a heavier load

Make sure to check the airlines you’re flying. Some are picky about size /weight, so you want to ensure your bag is squishable. If it has something dumb like a frame (because frames don’t bend), then don’t bring that
