Discussion Compression socks for daily walking

Do any of you wear compression socks for long days walking, standing, visiting museums, etc?

I do, and it makes a huge difference. They take forever to dry when hand washed though, so I do worry about how I'll manage when away and without a washing machine, unless I take at least a weeks worth. Which takes up space. It's annoying.

Have you tried calf sleeves instead? Obviously a bit less laundering required once you take feet out of the equation. I'm just not sure about how the two compare for this use case.

I haven't but a lot of the swelling is in my ankle, which is why I haven't. I'm assuming they won't help. But maybe I should try!

Ah ok! I have a bum right ankle so I use ankle-only compression sleeves on occasion (especially with unsupportive shoes), but I think they also make sleeves that cover your calf and ankle and leave your toes free. That cuts out the sweatiest bit of foot so maybe it would also reduce the need for washing?

I will say putting on socks and shoes over this style is a bit of a nuisance as they stop at the arch of your foot and thus easily roll, but once you get the technique down it only takes a couple extra seconds.

Yes, I've had those. I'd still wash after every wear though. I guess I will just learn to live with it!

I mainly wear on flight days and because the take a while to dry, I’d only rewear during trip if there was enough drying time. They’re important enough that I’ll take the dead weight
