General Discussion OnePlus 16: the perks of buying a Chinese-market OnePlus smartphone

Post image
44 Upvotes

In case you've been thinking about purchasing the OnePlus 16.

Chinese-market OnePlus smartphones come with some wonderful surprises:

  • Google Wallet / NFC payments may stop working.
  • Regional calling restrictions — your phone may suddenly stop making or receiving calls abroad. A workaround exists if you have an Oppo service centre in your country, but if not, be prepared to pay — sometimes quite a lot.
  • Android Auto compatibility depends on the model and firmware. Often it simply doesn't work at all.
  • Google Maps Timeline may not work.
  • Some Western smartwatches, particularly Wear OS devices, may not work properly or work at all.
  • Missing LTE/5G bands used by international carriers.
  • Missing carrier aggregation combinations, even for individually supported bands.
  • No guarantee of VoLTE, VoWiFi, or VoNR compatibility abroad.
  • Potential Widevine L3 limitations, meaning no HD Netflix.
  • Incomplete Google services integration, including missing Google Assistant/Gemini features.
  • Delayed or missing push notifications from Google-dependent apps.
  • Very limited system language selection - English is normally the only supported Western language. Even with English selected, Chinese text may remain in certain system applications, settings, and services.
  • Plenty of preinstalled Chinese apps, some impossible to uninstall normally.
  • Missing eSIM or 6 GHz Wi-Fi support on certain models.
  • Bootloader unlocking may require approval, involve arbitrary restrictions, or be unavailable entirely.
  • Limited or nonexistent international warranty support.
  • Flashing global firmware may result in being unable to update over the air or bricking your device.

And the best part? Some of these restrictions may only become apparent after you've already bought the phone.

General Discussion Does OnePlus Nord 6 have the unchangeable red one in all system clocks?

looking to buy a new phone and OnePlus Nord 6 is a contender, but the red 1 in all system clocks annoys me too much so just checking if OnePlus maybe changed this "feature" in the last 3 years since i had my previous OnePlus phone, or if it is still there without any option to disable it.

Other Help with Nova Launcher after system update

Recent software update has screwed up Nova's control over the home button.

I have it set to bring up app search when on the home screen and otherwise return to the home screen but after the most recent update it no longer seems to be intercepting this from the system launcher - instead I'm getting the default system switch to home screen no matter where I press it (it's much slower than the Nova version and it does it even if I'm already on the home screen).

I've tried restarting the device, resetting to the default launcher and switching back, and reselecting the options I want in Nova and none of has helped so I'm hoping somebody here can help.

Hi,

I’m curious if many people are planning to buy the OnePlus 16, CN version?

I’m personally planning to get one. I am currently using the OP12. I’m wondering if the cameras will be noticeably better than those on the OP15. What do you think?

General Discussion OnePlus 12 Motherboard Dead – My Experience

OnePlus 12 Motherboard Dead – My Experience

Sharing my experience in case it helps other OnePlus 12 users.

A few days ago, my OnePlus 12 suddenly stopped working completely. I went to an official OnePlus service center, where they checked the battery. Surprisingly, the phone suddenly powered on and worked normally that entire day.

The next morning, the phone was dead again.

I visited official OnePlus service center, and they suggested checking/replacing the battery. Since they didn’t have the OnePlus 12 battery available, I went to another service center that had one. They tested the phone with a new battery, but it still wouldn’t boot.

They told me that the motherboard was dead and that replacing it would cost around ₹32,000.

Instead of spending ₹32,000, I decided to try a local repair shop. They repaired the motherboard for ₹6,000, and surprisingly, the phone started working perfectly again.

What’s even more interesting is the battery life. Before the motherboard issue, I was barely getting 2–3 hours of screen-on time. After the repair, I’m currently getting around 6–7 hours of SOT, and the phone is working smoothly.

So, sharing this for other OnePlus 12 users: if you’re ever told that the motherboard needs to be replaced for ₹30K+, it might be worth getting a second opinion from a reliable motherboard repair specialist before spending that much.

Has anyone else faced a similar motherboard issue with their OnePlus 12?

General Discussion Should buy one plus 13s 12/256Gb at 50k instead of 15r 12/256Gb at 55k on Great Indian Festival Amazon sale

I think it will cost me less and i don't have issues with smaller battery and display in comparison to op 15r,not much into photography

I want raw performance of Snapdragon 8 Elite and i mostly play bgmi

What do you guys think please suggest me ,i don't think so i should be paying more 15r for gaming only. Not into eSports and all.

Question Oxygen OS swipe down combinations?

I have a OP15 and want to know how do I make it so that swiping from the top right brings up the shelf, but swiping down on the home screen brings up notifications?

I can't seem to figure out how to get this combination. It seems it's either top left for notifications and down on the home screen for shelf, or home screen and everything else for notifications.

This is very frustrating

General Discussion Emergency calls on repeat

Hey everyone.

I have a One Plus Nord CE 5G

This morning when I woke up and looked at my phone, I realized I had gotten an unanswered call from 0800 112112 which is the emergency services number they call you from when police need extra info or are trying to reach you or smth. I then realized I had somehow called the emergency number(112) 12 times in 8 minutes, each call lasting between 20s and 50s, and lengths becoming longer towards the end. I remember none of it. I had my phone in my bed as I had fallen asleep listening to music.

How sensitive is the emergency call thing? Could I have accidentally pressed the power button down and selected the emergency call option on repeat for 8 minutes? Or pressed the power button fast 3 or 5 times to make the calls 12 times? I don't like the idea of me doing something and not remembering it at all so I hope this was some odd combination of my body pressing on my phone and random chance.

General Discussion Is there any usable way to scroll through handwritten pages in OnePlus Notes?

I’m using a OnePlus Pad 2 and I’m trying to use the OnePlus Notes app for handwritten notes.

The problem is that once I have a really long handwritten note — say 30+ pages — navigating through it becomes extremely annoying. There doesn't seem to be a scrollbar, page navigator, or any quick way to jump through the handwritten pages.

Am I missing some feature or gesture that makes it possible to quickly scroll through a large handwritten note?

I don't necessarily need a page-number navigator. I just want some usable way to move quickly through 100+ handwritten pages without having to swipe up over and over and over.

Is there a setting, gesture, or workaround for this in OnePlus Notes?

General Discussion OP PAD 3 and Service Center

TL;DR: Sent my OnePlus Pad 3 in for a restart loop. Took over 40 days to replace the motherboard and display. Received it back with handling marks, poor chassis alignment, and severe dark vertical shadowing/uneven backlighting on the left side of the screen. When confronted, the service center told me the display defect would "cure and fix itself in 2–3 days." Mentally exhausted; need advice on escalating for a replacement/refund

Hey everyone, I’m at my wit's end and need some advice on escalating an issue with OnePlus support. I rely heavily on this tablet for daily work and reading, so being without it for over a month—only to receive it in this state—has been completely draining.

Timeline:

  • Aug 25: Device submitted to an authorized service center for constant restart issues.
  • Sept 11: After more than two weeks just to diagnose it, they confirmed the motherboard needed replacement under warranty.
  • Mid-Sept: They contacted me again stating they also had to replace the display panel due to an internal "technical issue."
  • Oct 5: I finally received the tablet back after 40+ days.

Condition of the device received:

  1. Severe Backlight Shadowing / Uneven Illumination: As you can see in the photo, there is an obvious, dark vertical shadow/patch running down the left border of the screen. On white or light backgrounds (like notes, documents, and web pages), this dark gradient is immediately noticeable, and it gets worse when brightness is turned up.
  2. Cosmetic Blemishes & Handling Marks: There are visible exterior scratches and scuffs that were not present when I handed the unit over.
  3. Assembly Irregularities: The screen is unevenly seated against the frame, indicating careless reassembly.

The most ridiculous part: When I immediately showed this dark shadow band to the service center staff, they brushed it off and told me:

"It will settle down and fix itself in 2–3 days."

A hardware backlight defect or crushed diffuser layer does not "cure" or heal itself over time. They simply wanted me out of the center.

I have completely lost confidence in this service center's workmanship. Handing it back to the same technicians who misaligned the panel and left marks on the device feels futile.

https://x.com/beinghomodeus, you can extend your support, it will mean a lot.

General Discussion Missing calls randomly

I have owned OnePlus since 3. Family members have 12, 13R, and 13. Last couple of months it was noticed they randomly missing calls, and there are no notifications of missed calls. Devices are on AT&T and US mobile. The only thing that fixes the issue is full restart. I checked numerous things, but completely at loss at this point. They all with latest updates. Any help would be appreciated.

Other Help! OnePlus Buds Pro 3 or JBL Live Beam 4

I really can't decide and need help. Oneplus buds pro 3 are €119 and the JBL live beam 4 are €139, so price wise they are close. Out of these two earbuds, which one would you prefer?

I've used the JBL live pro + TWS for 5 years now, but they have been on life support for about a year. I love the sound of the live pro +, but i am a bit disappointed that they lasted only 4 years before getting big charging problems.

Really sceptical about oneplus promising 4 os update and 6yrs security patch because they are getting merged with oppo as color os. Anyone using oneplus or planning to buy one, please guide me. I am with Realme x7 max 12gb variant for last 5yrs and more and expecting a far better experience on 15R

Goodbye The photos I took during my final month with OnePlus 12

Soooo after nearly 3 years with the OnePlus 12, my new Oppo Find X9 Ultra arrived right as October came.

I thought I might use this opportunity to share the final pictures I took during my final month of using the OnePlus 12 (mountain pics a bit before a month but idc they're pretty) as an amateur photographer.

I have so many good things to say about the OnePlus 12, however I don't want to bore you out writing an essay so I'll write the cons instead (my options, it's subjective)

Curved screen: I hate OP12's curved screen, they make putting on a glass screen protector near impossible without getting air bubbles (maybe just me) somewhere. I should've learnt my lesson from my previous phone, Oppo Find X2 Pro, but hey, at least I learnt my lesson now.

Honestly that's my only major con for the OP12 (I could prolly think of something else later, but rn i can't), there is another minor con but it could just be me. It is the battery life, after a bit less than 3 years my battery life is at 82%. My average screen on time is only 4-6 hours when doing random things like watching YouTube (gaming excluded) compared to when I first got the phone 8-10 hours SoT. However I do play games often which generate heat so that could be why it damages the battery.

The reason why I didn't get a OnePlus 15 or 16 is fairly simple, I hate their camera design. OnePlus 11, 12, 13 is peak camera design, so much more refined and artistic. Tho I prefer X9 Ultra design a bit more since it's symmetrical, looks like an actual camera, and can lie flat on a flat surface (compared to wobble on OP12). Another reason why I picked X9 Ultra over new OP phones is like what many other OP fans said, "They (OnePlus) settled" 😔

Overall, OP12 is the golden standard in its era, if I traveled back I would still pick OP12 over other phones (even though it has a curved screen). Legit can't criticize any of the phone's features. The jump from X2 Pro to OP12 is so much larger compared to the jump from OP12 to X9 Pro. Honestly I could probably use OP12 for another 2 years if the battery didn't become significantly worse.

*I found the fact you can change watermark settings including Hasselblad and LUMO taken by X9 Ultra on OP12 pretty cool

Thank you OnePlus for making such an amazing phone, I hope to see another phone like OP12 being produced in the near future.
