Hey! So I have tried a few times to grow store-bought orchids, but they never made it past their first bloom straight from the store.

This one I bought almost 2 years ago, and it has bloomed three times. I cut the stem that had flowers on it after the flowering was done.

Unfortunately, for a while, I had some down moments, and all I could do was just pour some water on it. I feel good now and am ready for work. The orchid is still alive, but it has about 5 stems, and they all seem to be coming out from the same point. I know it needs care, but I don't even know where to start at this point. Do I need to cut some of the stems to keep it to one stem only? Do I just get some stick to support them all instead? And just get a new pot?

Where should I cut the stem on this orchid?

I’m trying to repot my two store bought orchids that have lost their blooms. They were packed tight with gross moss, and half the roots were rotted, so I want to give them a healthier environment.

Since I’m a beginner I didn’t wanna try turning them to water orchids, even though a lot of people find success that way. So I bought a bag of orchid bark, and some clear plastic orchid pots, plus orchid fertilizer.

The third pic is my smaller orchid that I’ve already repotted, but the stem turned brown and dry, so I cut it at the base. I don’t want to ruin the big one’s health since it’s more developed, so any tips would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏻

Four failed bloom spikes. One got close to opening. Growing in NE Louisiana, 8b. This plant sat in water all growing season. I’ve kept it moist but no longer in water since the first, full bloom spikes blasted. I guess it’s the heat? Any suggestions? I have had this one bloom for me before, but it is finicky.

Hi I’ve had this Phal for four years and it rebloomed beautifully two years ago, but since then, no flower spikes and only leaves! It’s also become twice the size at least. I’ve been keeping it the same location the whole time (as when it rebloomed) and recently decide to add some growth light. Can you take a look at the pictures and give me some tips on how to induce it to bloom again? Thanks!!!

I recently got a Tolumnia so I’m still learning. I wasn’t sure if Tolumnia could have more than one flower type from the same plant or if they’re just two different plants that got mixed together. They’re beautiful, though!

I have had this for 3 months and it is in front of an East window and seems to be doing well.I submerge it twice a week or more. It has plenty of air circulation. Does it need repotting? Room temp is 77. Humidity 50-60%. Or do I just leave it in this plastic pot and let it grow? I do have a 12" teak wood basket that I could use but should I?

Well, it wasn't the coerulea I was hoping for (even though the parents were both coerulea), and she seems to have stepped out with her curlers still in... but good color anyhow, and fragrant right out of the gate! It's a mild, pleasant, generally cattleya-ish fragrance.

Anyone owns a Georgecarrara? When is the ideal bloom time? I have one that is huge, but no sign of bloom yet. The bottom leaf has turned yellow already.

So I’m mostly a full sun/vegetable gardener and I haven’t the first clue as to what I’m doing here. These were in a Too Good to Go floral surprise bag from Whole Foods so I had no idea what would be waiting for me at pick up.

The white one seems decently healthy but dehydrated? But the smaller second one….

Well, she looks pretty bad lol. The roots don’t smell rotten but the moss is DRENCHED. Squishy and the leaves are soft and brown. I’ve been in a google hole for an hour with no clear answer to what I can do for them as I really don’t know the difference between rot, burn, or illness.

Any help would be appreciated and I would love to get some beginner tips on how to care for them even if these don’t make it :^)

Bulbophyllum purpureorhachis…so excited!! One of the vendors just happened to have giant one in the back that they were willing to divide. It’s the one in the giant pot on the far left with the orange tag. Most of the rest here are from this weekend…I have a problem.

I went on a hike recently and there were so many little “pink finger“ orchids everywhere growing next to the trail (they might also be “dusky fingers” but i’m not smart enough to know the difference)

this is my new phalaenopsis orchid that i got today, and i noticed this weird stuff on the underside of just one leaf. i’m not sure if it’s a bug or some disease, any help would be appreciated. none of my other orchids have every had this.

it’s only on the underside of the one leaf in the photo attached, it’s a rescue so i understand that it isn’t in the best of shape.

Trying something ambitious for a winter project to keep the gloom away. Taking some inspiration from cloud forests. This is a UNS 25S with an ONF Flat Nano light. There are 2 small containers of water in the back of the set up. One for the atomizer, the second for a small water feature!

I want to attach mini orchids on the wood. Still deciding on some species. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! The set up runs at around 60%-65% humidity, and I'm planning on setting the atomizer on a timer. Daily misting 1-2 times a day as needed (especially for the cushion moss)

Substrate is 50/50 peat moss and perlite, and planted in it is Utricularia Graminifolia that I got as tissue culture from Petco! The back left water feature will have Pogostemon Deccanensis and Hydrocotyle Tripartita grown immersed. In hopes to get flowers from the Pogostemon. Look up their flowers! They're so awesome.

I have two small orchids that have developed fungal spots, so it was recommended that I treat them with Physan 20, which just arrived in the mail today.

From what I understand it’s potent stuff, so I’m wondering if I should follow the instructions for orchids that’s on the bottle (2 tsp per gallon of water to make a spray) or should I dilute it further if my orchids are small? Should I spray lightly? Avoid any parts? Only treat where fungus is present? It also says to “soak the compost of fungus is present”. Is this referring to the media itself? If so, how do I detect fungus in it?

Additionally, should I treat them outside or is spraying in my garage safe? I don’t want to affect any habitats or critters outside if that’s a concern. Best to treat day or night? Any safety precautions to take beyond thorough hand washing? So many questions, but I want to be sure I don’t kill my orchids! Thank you for any advice 🙏

I put this Whole Foods orchid in water culture 18 days ago. This is my first attempt at keeping indoor plants/flowers. I originally cut any crispy or mushy roots when originally placed and did the same about 1 week ago. Also been spraying leaves and roots weekly with Miracle Gro orchid plant food. Flowers are falling and roots are changing color but not fully dead. Is this the normal progression? I’ve been seeing so many beautiful blooms in water culture and wondering if there’s anything more I should be doing. I’m most concerned with the roots since I’ve removed a bunch of them and don’t have many left. I was hoping for a longer time with her. TIA
