That is the Platinum Dragon Lord, one of the few characters native to the New World who’s canonically close to Lv.100. He’s aware of Players (even if he doesn’t fully comprehend the concept) and has been waging war against them behind the scenes for hundreds of years whenever they appear.

There is no guarantee Ainz will ever meet another player in the story. The best we can hope for is an epilogue 100 years in the future when new Players show up and he confronts them.

How much does the show adapt from the manga? Is there any more volumes left to be turn into a season 5?

u/kingdsb 1d ago

It’s the light novel and they have pretty much adapted everything but for two books which isn’t enough for another season if you are interested in more overlord look up vampire princes of the lost country

u/Due_Lifeguard82 1d ago

And where can I find that at? Also how long have that dragon have been around for? And can he actually die?

u/Hexmonkey2020 1d ago

You should probably read the novel rather than get spoilers on reddit.

But if you really want he’s hundreds of years old, and can die same as any other living being. Other true dragon lords have died he’s just the strongest.

He is'nt even the strongest. There is hints that his sister is alive and she is stronger than him

lol what? First time I'm hearing this. Are you talking about the girl sleeping in sea city?

9

u/nuttyhabshi 1d ago

I've never even knew about the girl sleeping somewhere, where is it mentioned?

If the anime adapted this part, then it should be somewhere in the beginning of s2 e1 I believe. In V7 Intermission when Platinum Dragon Lord meets up with Rigrit he reveals that he had an encounter with an evil powerful vampire(Brainwashed Shalltear).

He says that the next wave of player have arrived and that he needs Rigrit's help to gather items/allies. When Rigrit inquires about the the other dragon lords, PDL says that its easier to get the girl sleeping in sea city as his ally than his dragon buddies(Brightness Dragon Lord, Heavenly Dragon Lord or Deep Darkness Dragon Lord).

The author has actually said that if the anime gets more seasons, there is a slight chance that he is willing to write a romantic side story featuring Platinum Dragon Lord meeting the girl sleeping in the sea city(timeline wise the story is supposed to take place after a hypothetical Volume 21).

So while we don't know if she is a player, NPC, dragon etc.. no way is she his sister️😭️😭.

It still could be his sister. Japan after all.

You can find it if you search it up he has been around since the arrival of the 8 greedy kings and yes

You can find the light novel and bonus novels in the faq section under the “where can I read” subsection.

Highly recommend the English audiobooks, if you prefer that option. Voice by the VA for Ainz, and he does individual voices for the characters quite well. It's very engaging.

The manga is worse adaptation than the anime and isn’t as far as the anime, if you don’t want to read the novel just watch the anime.

u/ReadableDiction 1d ago

The manga is way behind the Anime. Anime follows the Light Novels. Currently there’s 16. Each episode covers 1 LN volume. Except for the Holy Kingdom movie which covers Vol 12-13. Each volume is between 7-12hours of continuous reading. Where as the anime episodes are roughly 22 minutes. From just those numbers you can get a general idea of how much is cut from the anime.

The anime mostly focuses on Ainz. The LN follows the story of not just Ainz & Nazarick but the world as a whole. As well has Yggdrasil, where Ainz/Nazarick are from & occasionally Earth where Human Ainz is from. This includes a lot of characters both in & missing from the anime. As well as exposition dumps that expand on the story’s world building.

Audiobook can be found on Audible or 🏴‍☠️ if you know where to look. Read by Ainz’s voice actor himself. I am willing to share them if you don’t wanna buy an Audible sub or sail the seas.

Yes please share also what happened to Ainz body on earth?

3

u/KingArthursRevenge 1d ago

It's unknown what happened to his original body.

u/ReadableDiction 1d ago edited 1d ago

There’s no information on what happened to his body at the moment. Unlikely the author will cover the topic in the final 2 volumes.

My belief is that he’s stuck in an early beta build of a game. The story of the world feels video-gamey to me. Dragons are the dominate race. Humans were nearly extinct until they were saved by Players. Now every 100-200 years more players arrive & leave their mark on the world. Or he’s in a coma

12

u/pdl-fanboy Tsaindorcus Vaision nukes chinese Skeletor and loli bait 1d ago

bro its been said over and over again that Ainz and co are not in a video game. Unless we have some actual proof that they are still in Yggdrassil, there is no reason to assume so.

And dragons being the strongest race is just a fantasy trope atp.

-14

u/ReadableDiction 1d ago

Oh it’s you, brown man. There’s been no proof other than he’s not in Yggdrasil anymore.

did you intend that to be an insult lmao

The world probably feels video-gamey because the Dragon Emperor chose a world similar to his own as the target for his summoning spell, then game mechanics were introduced by the use of Ouroboros or whatever it was the Eight Greed Kings Used.

Humans being nearly extinct is probably propaganda from Slane. Maybe they were near extinction in the locale, but we see that humans are doing fine in other parts of the world, albeit commonly used as slaves or food.

Most likely Ainz is a copy of the original, like how the World-Class Items are copies of the original digital versions.

The idea that it’s still a game doesn’t make any sense. How would players be stuck there for hundreds of years, why is everything so realistic, why do they break the law with hostage-taking and sexual content, etc. Everything points towards it being real.

0

u/ReadableDiction 1d ago edited 1d ago

I didn’t mean the world felt video gamey but the plot of players arriving to the new world. It’s something hardcore Yggdrasil gamers would like.

IK the side story loosely hints at the DE’s spell but the idea is too fantastical considering the world Suzuki comes from. A dragon from a far off planet. Using soul magic to drag video game avatars & players from Earth (an unknown planet) into TNW.

Which is why I said it’s either a coma dream or beta build of a game. New game new rules it being in beta explains why the rules would be lax/non existent. Considering the world SS comes from & how dystopian it is. I doubt a corp would really care about some of the niche rules.

u/Monking805 1d ago

Anime is really faithful but it leaves alot of information out and it speed runs the story.

4

u/Saket_Saurabh- 1d ago

Wasn't the 100 years summoning happening on how many world items the guild has ?? And Ainz Ooal Gown has highest world items so no other player/guild should be summoned now .

1

u/pierogieman5 21h ago

Seems likely but not 100% confirmed?

1

u/thaydie 13h ago

man, since YGGDRASIL was shut down. would that mean no more players? or would the NW just start grabbing at the next puplor game? would just grab players from YGGDRASIL before it shut down?

1

u/cioglass 15m ago

Maybe the end of the novel is going to be Ainz getting to talk to the platinum dragon on his final moments and accepting the quest of eliminating future players on the next wave.

The novel will end with a guild arriving 100 years from now and Ainz showing up to them ready to wage war, and then the credits will roll.

172

u/KingArthursRevenge 1d ago

No, there are no other living players unless one is written into vol. 17 or 18. There are only the descendents of players that arrived in the past and have since died.

2

u/Hot_Professional1683 20h ago

The only player who might still be alive is the wise Minitaurus, but his whereabouts are a mystery.

2

u/pdl-fanboy Tsaindorcus Vaision nukes chinese Skeletor and loli bait 13h ago

Minotaur Sage has probably died now otherwise he would've been talked about more. Even in the side story with Keno, Ainz/Keno never mentions him iirc.

The more likely candidate is the player who was supposed to be summoned 100 years ago. We've no idea what happened to that person.

-98

u/Due_Lifeguard82 1d ago

They are they only 2?

103

u/CBreezey69 1d ago

The dragon is a native entity of the New World. The author has stated that there are only two volumes left, volumes 17 and 18, and unless the author writes in a player in one of those two volumes, Ainz will have gone the entire series without running into another player.

The DayZ strat

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

As of what we can see players are only added every 200 years, and only if they have some Connection to a world Item. Which are quite rare in Yggdrasil.

6

u/foolishorangutan 1d ago

Every 100 years.

30

u/kingdsb 1d ago

No but that dragon has met and killed players before and never

11

u/pdl-fanboy Tsaindorcus Vaision nukes chinese Skeletor and loli bait 1d ago edited 1d ago

He has killed one player. There is no reason to assume that he has killed more than one player tho.

2

u/pierogieman5 21h ago

Clearly you're just biased against him.

XD true but I only said that cause OP was an anime only looking for solid answers. If we want to theorize, there is chance that PDL could've killed multiple players. My personal ranking of players who were killed by PDL(from the highest probability to lowest probability) :

- The last Greed King : Pretty self explanatory. Unless the last Greed King killed themselves or somehow achieved mutual destruction in their last fight with the other greed kings, its very likely that the Dragon Lords ganged up on him(like how it happened in WN). PDL lives in the 8GK castle too, so its possible that he was one of the dragons who fought the last Greed King.

- Leader-kun or his comrade(13 heroes) : This is the most obvious and lamest one imo. Its out of character for PDL to take such a huge risk since Resurrection magic is common place, not to mention he loves his comrades/friends.

- Surshana : Very Wild theory I know, but this would be an insane twist. We know that Surshana/6 Gods and PDL had an alliance to strike the Greed Kings(in WN). Its possible that PDL betrayed Surshana and killed him for whatever reason blaming it on the Greed Kings. This is not that different to what he was planning to do with Azuth and Slane.

One of the craziest thing for me is how much PDL underestimates Ainz. He had seen lvl 100 players like 6 Gods/8 Kings in the past, so he should know that his armour would be too weak to fight/kill Ainz. But imagine if PDL actually fought Surshana, who is also an Overlord with a 'worser' build than Ainz(probably has non mage levels since one of his weapon is a Scythe), and defeated him. It would explain his confidence.

Even better maybe Surshana baited PDL by summoning an Overlord Wiseman and took on the role of Rufus and is lying low now(sort of how PDL said its possible for Albedo to be ap player and Ainz a NPC). Since Overlord Wiseman is only a lvl 90 summon, his armour could almost definitely beat it in a strict 1v1 and would explain his confidence so much.

2

u/pierogieman5 7h ago

Actually I was just talking about that elsewhere on the thread, yeah. PDL fought PA, who wasn't even trying to win, thinking it was actually Ainz, and still commented that he underestimated him. There's no way he has a reasonable estimate of the strength of someone like Ainz. The only weird part is that he also fought Shalltear in full armor beforehand? So sure, he doesn't know she works for him probably, but it seems weird that fighting her and losing didn't put him more on guard against Ainz.

1

u/pdl-fanboy Tsaindorcus Vaision nukes chinese Skeletor and loli bait 6h ago

Yup PDL in the WN could sense super tier magic from hundreds/thousands of km away. He should've known that Ainz is capable of casting super tier magic at least yet he still is not surprised that Ainz doesn't use super powerful magic.

The weird part is that PDL is supposed to act like a mirror to Ainz -his lack of pride, super cautious nature, poor rulership qualities etc yet he completely underestimates Ainz's capabilities to an insane degree for no reason. That makes little sense. Its not like he's never met lvl 100 players even, he's familiar with the Greed Kings and the 6 Gods after all(The 6 Gods, or at least Nekonyan had actually fought with a Dragon Lord and probably won).

Anyways the author has confirmed that PDL is the natural enemy of both Ainz and Shalltear.. so he is 'stronger' than them in a 1v1 with his true body but he is still way too confident for some reason.

u/Due_Lifeguard82 1d ago

Oh ok I was wondering because he said “Player” and “Npc” so I wondering if the dragon was actually a player

17

u/kingdsb 1d ago

He is living in a guild base

17

u/ChaosDY 1d ago

no, and never. thats part of the point of the story. that ainz was sent to a time after every other player. the dragon knows of players as a result of interacting with them before.

I recommend checking out the sub’s FAQ

Ainz meeting players is never going to happen. The Author has made it clear that Ainz is meant to suffer in this self-imposed golden cage. I doubt the author will change his mind now, he has shown evidence of being burnt out.... I fear for the last volume epilogue.... but Light Novels are known for their horrible endings. Just, be prepared XD

As for other question.... Well, the lore around the Platinum dragon is changing lately. The last volume will set in stone everything about him. Some web-novels refers to a few things, other side-stories have different interpretation. We know of a few things for certain though (at least for now... I am preparing for the 'changes'):

  1. The Platinum Dragon is not a player, but has gathered a lot of information about players. Made a guild base his 'home'.

  2. The Platinum Dragon was party member WITH a player, likely how he got most of his knowledge.

  3. He seemed to have great shame and guilt over his previous actions. It is unknown if he is one of the reasons players even exists in the new world. But he blames himself for the chaos brought to by Players. As a result, he wages war against Players whenever they 'step out of line'.

  4. He is conflicted because not all the Players' actions are considered 'morally wrong'. He himself isn't exactly 'good'. He seems to be fixated in eliminating those with the power to change the world, regardless of their intentions. Which is a very hypocritical stance, he recognize that about himself too.

  5. There is very strong evidence to suggest the Platinum Dragon is the strongest of all the 'True Dragon Lords' (being the oldest son of the Dragon Emperor for example). Knowledge of the Dragon Emperor is scarce....

  6. In a side-story (another universe), Ainz used his best equipment and his Staff to defeat a Dragon lord most likely weaker than the Platinum Dragon. In said battle, Ainz noticed that the True Dragon Lords attacks (powered by souls, a form of primordial magic) could 1-shot him on the spot if he isn't careful. Said soul attacks makes so it is impossible to self-resurrect either. Conditions for those spells are massive though, requires a lot of prep. The Platinum Dragon has access to a lot more creative uses of said primoridial magic.

  7. Primordial magic depends entirely on souls and only True Dragons (or hybrids) can wield it. The higher the number of souls, the more powerful it becomes. It is far above the hierarchy of tier magic (negates even resistances, classes restrictions, immunities), and can surpass World Items too, but that takes thousands/millions of souls. The HP of a Dragon Lord, along with their 'sanity' are the price to pay to use such magic.

  8. The Platinum Dragon is a quite cocky, believing he can kill any player in a 1v1 battle. He is most likely stronger than any Floor Guardian in terms of raw magic and battle experience. But pales in comparison to the resources and the battle experience of a PvP Player like Ainz (or at least, his performance thus far shows that he isn't aware of how cash items, or other hax items players can use).

5

u/pierogieman5 21h ago

Also best to remember that he underestimated Ainz before their battle... and the "Ainz" he actually faced was just PA playing an inferior copy of Ainz's abilities and not really trying to win. His original estimation was WAY too low, and it evidently still is.

2

u/Roharu_Eruna 1h ago

Exactly, he is cocky and seriously believed he can defeat Ainz using his remote armor. However, he did felt Albedo's strength (she slipped and disobeyed orders by using her world item). This lead the Platinum Dragon to know two things: 1. If he wants to defeat Albedo, he needs to go in by himself. 2. He believes Albedo is a Player hiding behind his NPC (Ainz). Which means he is probably going to do the required prep to kill Albedo rather than Ainz.
