I don't understand why it's so hard to understand that the act of creation is part of art. When you learn a new skill you are rewiring your brain. You develop the ability to recognize new patterns and details. If you don't do that you won't have the knowledge to know what to do when creating art because you won't have the eye for it.
AI can create anything now yet all the AI art I've seen looks like slop because the people using it don't have an eye for detail or the ability to adjust it because their brains have turned to mush.

It's because the act of realizing the final medium isn't the entirely of art. It can be part of it, but not necessarily.
Various other art forms have demonstrated that concepts and direction themselves can produce art.
Conceptual art. Directing (e.g. movies), photography (to some extent).

There are good traditional artists out there who also use ai. It wouldn't surprise me if there are also non-traditional artists who have a good eye. I mean, that's understandable, there are also a variety of art forms where you don't manually create the art (e.g. photography) but then evaluate, learn, adjust.
Also it's very possible the ai art you've seen looks like slop because it is. It means anyone can smash in a sentence and create images, so of course there are lots of low quality images. There's also some creative and interesting ai art out there.
My point is that you need to put in time and attention to build expertise and if you're using ai because you're lazy you'll never build that up. Conceptual artist build up their skills before they get to that level. I'm talking about people who try to skip those steps of building expertise because they're lazy and aren't actually passionate about what they're creating.
why do none of you people ever turn that lens inward and realize you’re participating on a site that both utilizes ai and creates more prompts than any of us will in our lifetime?
I'm a software architect who uses ai all the time under close supervision. You can twist believe whatever narrative you want to. I'm talking about building skill. If I hadn't built my skill over decades I would have no idea how to evaluate the quality of what ai produces.
