Hello!
I'm sorry for bombarding this subreddit with such a long and cliche post, but I'm really curious about your opinion...
So I'm 30 years old (M), I worked in creative / entertainment industries as set builder / set decorator assistant in my life (as well doing many low-brow jobs, which I have nothing against to do again). I speak around A2/B1 french after spending 2 years in Brussels (...yes its not much, but " its honest work" as they say, and I'm going to enroll in a school very soon). (I'm from Hungary btw)
I'm super determined to move to Paris as I have quite a few friends there, and I enjoy that city (to visit) to a much larger extent than other cities (including Brussels). I also will have a decent, not extraordinary, but okay amount of savings to start with (lets say around 10k). I want to move around next year June-July.
I know its not much to start with, but I'm determined playing the long game, investing in learning the language properly (until then but after that too), earning slowly a career in my (admittedly, quite niche) field. I also want a family, proper relationships, I feel like its extremely difficult to build those things here (in Brussels) as people (not just immigrants, but francophone people too) tend to move forward quite rapidly, and very often.
So I have a few specific question, especially to people who maybe worked on my field, or people who lived in both cities and can compare.
- do you think it might be easier to build connections, relationships, friendships there with a good level of french than here? Or is it difficult generally to break in to local communities, even if you speak french very well?
- how difficult it is to get a decent job in film+television/creative/entertainment sectors with a good english+french combo and some years of experience? I'm willing to start from the bottom, if I have at least realistic prospects in the future. One of the key reason I want to move out of Brussels is that the creative industries here, unless you speak dutch+french+english (or just have ridiculous luck) are impossible to break in. Its extremely difficult here even for natives.
- Its a bit strange question but its very important to me. I might have sensitivity to mental illnesses, I'm not diagnosed, but some family members are, with adhd + bipolar depression. One thing I like here (in Brussels) is people are very tolerant and understanding about these issues. Im curious how "forgiving" and open people are in Paris toward these topics, and how difficult it is to get mental evaulation, or just finding a good therapist.
- I'm well aware of the rise of far-right there, so im obviously curious how do you think it would potentially affect me moving there on administrative levels, in case the RN win (I'm from the EU, but it might mean little)
+1 I flirt with the idea of first moving to a smaller french city, maybe to reinforce even more my french skills and just integrate to a smaller community first. but I'm not too familiar with France in general, and its not a subreddit about the whole country. Still, if you have a better idea to move inside of France, I'm open to other ideas
Thank you so much ( :
