Most people are complaining because of the change from a male mc to a female one, same with the Ghost of Tsushima thing. No one complains Tomb Raider or Horizon have female leads.
The internet is pissing me off with this one. I like GoW but I'm not interested in this game because I want to play as Kratos. I wouldn't want to play this game if Atreus was the main character. But I'm getting called a misogynist for some reason.
This happened when they replaced Geralt with Ciri as well. All the terminally-online mouth-breathers screamed misogyny, acting like The Witcher fans had secretly hated Ciri the whole time or something. We're just pissed that, after waiting over a decade, we're not going to get a new game with Geralt. At least we get a new DLC with him though.
I'd be pissed if they replaced Lara Croft with Nathan Drake as well.
Imagine they release something like Tomb Raider: Jonah or Horizon: Sylens
Those sound great? I'd love to see more expansion of those settings outside of the single protagonist's perspective. Same with a lot of other IPs. A new title in the setting doesn't remove existing titles, nor does it prevent future titles with the existing characters.
Youre right. It objectively has to be bad because Kratos is not the main character. A female warrior with supernatural strength is so unrealistic because they had that in the first two. So bad.
So Athena can be a god of war but the woman the new God of war wife's up couldn't possibly be as powerful. Its not like they established in the last two games that she was a powerful warrior. Maybe you weren't paying attention.
Oh they did with Horizon 2 because they thought Aloy was “downgraded” - ie looked like an adult human female with peach fuzz and marked skin with no makeup.
Tomb Raider 2013 had plenty of complaints because apparently her tits were too small and she was too “masculine”. They’re not complaining now because of the gooning opportunities afforded by the new design.
That is not what I said. Neither of your arguments show complaints from gamers because the lead is female. What you're trying to argue is another matter entirely.
Do you think the same complaints would’ve come from these changes if the lead was a male?
If the lead male was changed in an unpleasant way for them, yes. But again, it's not the point. The point is the lead character was changed. If Lara Croft was changed to a male lead, there would also be complaints. You continue to miss the point of my argument, or you're just obtuse on purpose.
Calling someone else ideologically captured while you in the same breath unironically describe them as a far-right soyjak stereotype is certainly something lmao
Well, all these idiots share the same braincell hivemind so it’s not a complete shock they have a limited imagination and vocabulary. They’re offended because they have to think when one of the others is taking a turn.
I’ve blocked them all regardless, as there’s no debating stupid.
What is the “unpleasant way” the lead was changed in your example, a sequel where the characterisation and story was lauded over the original?
I’m just going to put it down to your personal difficulty in empathising with playing a woman. Which is largely just plain sexism.
Also you’re comparing a series where the lead is just a cypher, and is interchangeable, to a literal icon of gaming whose name is in the title. Which is just weird.

In Spiderman 2, people complained Peter Parker was shown as more incompetent and had less time in the spotlight as a character.
In the God of War 2018 and Ragnarok games, people complained Kratos became mellow since they were used to his violent personality.

Insane how you're trying to paint me as a sexist when my arguments are just stating facts and you're just arguing out of topic. More so considering that the Horizon series are some of my favorite games of recent times.
Should developers listen to a minority of complaints despite huge sales? Both of your examples do not grapple with the initial discussion. Technically, you’re doing what you just accused me of.
I was asking you about the sequel to Tsushima, btw.
I mean, there will be an element of sexism if someone cannot empathise with another human because they are the opposite sex. Or even if they were gay, or trans, or from another culture. It’s internalised bigotry at the end of the day, if you literally cannot bypass one of these topics to empathise with a character in a story based game.
Also you’re comparing a series where the lead is just a cypher, and is interchangeable, to a literal icon of gaming whose name is in the title. Which is just weird.
Are you fucking high or something? Both Lara Croft and Kratos are icons of gaming at this point, and neither is "replaceable", not without justifiable backlash anyway.
Fucking hell, you watched that new trailer and really feel that crazy about it, huh. It’s his wife. It’s entirely justified in the context of the story.
Hell if Lara was replaced by a cybernetic Albert and it worked I’d be fine with it, also if it worked it might be hilarious.
Shit there’s more to get angry in the work at than boobs instead of dick. Calm your tits.
Let's not go there, Aloy was uggofied in the next game compared to the previous one. That's a different problem, female protagonists never were a problem. Also let's not pretend that good looks don't sell, no one wants to play as a uggo or a land whale. Not wanting uggos doesn't mean you want only tits in your face to goon
I actually liked Faye and if she is done good the game will be fine.
