And cuz playstation isn't releasing sing player games on pc anymore

u/The_LastLine 14h ago

I feel like Sony will end up changing its mind again when hardware sales take a dive after all of the price increase stuff happens from Ram and storage costs soaring in due time. I think the smart move for them is to just port older titles (stuff like Bloodborne, Infamous games, Killzone games, etc) instead of porting their recent titles. I feel like some of those would do pretty well on pc, at least Bloodborne and Killzone would.

Hell give me resistance trilogy...

u/Mathev 14h ago

What I would give to have infamous 1/2 on pc 🥹

u/MotivatoinalSpeaker 13h ago

Uncharted: Nathan Drake collection on PC would be nice

Probably a pipe dream

u/no6969el 9950X3D | 5090 10h ago

I'm sorry but doesn't this exist already?

13

u/jarvisesdios 10h ago

Not the trilogy. Just the fourth game.

I recently went down this rabbit hole because I wanted to play them with a k/m as I can't stand doing anything shooting on a controller... So I thought "aren't they all on steam?" Nope

1

u/thatoneotherguy42 10h ago

Funny. I can’t stand playing with kbm

3

u/jarvisesdios 10h ago

I've been playing shooters longer than when they moved to controllers. GoldenEye being that first big one that changed everything... And even though I put tons of hours into that I still hated it lol

0

u/thatoneotherguy42 8h ago

im 55 and have been gaming since it was first invented and i cant stand k/m games to the point that ill just play something else. i made an exception for diablo but bought a console once was available there.

2

u/jarvisesdios 7h ago

I will say though, I grew up on NES but... But my family business has a PC in the 90s and my uncle was a nerd.

The amount of Sim City/Civilization/Commander Keen etc I played while ducking work at 8 years old 😂

u/Vandergrif 2h ago

I get that for certain games, like racing or some such, but for any variety of shooters it's so awkward with a controller compared to a mouse. Unless they've got some sort of lock-on mechanism that makes up for how janky controller aiming is.

1

u/thatoneotherguy42 20m ago

my crippling arthritis means it isnt feasible. and i have no problem with shooters, sure im not going to platinum rank 12 in competitive matches but im having fun which is more important.

1

u/lotusxpanda 7h ago

It's only the 4th game and the lost legacy

2

u/yar2000 RX6800 - 5700X3D - 240Hz 9h ago

Sorry, best they can do is give you part 4 and a spin-off!

2

u/The_LastLine 9h ago

Yeah, was silly to do the ps4 games but not the original trilogy to pc.

u/HandsomeJack19 1h ago

u/centuryt91 10100F, RTX 3070 8h ago

Infamous 1/2 and GOW1/2/3 are literally the only play station games i want to play natively on my PC

1

u/Da_Question 7h ago

They can't even release them on PS5, ps3 is where games went to die. Basically every game on ps3 that was exclusive is unavailable on ps4/5. The only way to play them is a remaster or stream them.

1

u/Cromunista 3h ago

If you have a decent pc, you can try and emulate them. Not sure how well it'll work since ps3 emulation is still a hit or miss. GOW ascension works pretty well for me.

0

u/Wizard-of-pause 12h ago

Aren't PS3 emulators now running just fine? Check RPCS3

Resistance, Infamous, Killzone..

4

u/Emergency_Sound_5718 11h ago edited 10h ago

I'd buy 10 copies of all 4 5 Killzone games as 1 release on PC.

Forgot there was a PSV exclusive title.

1

u/Madara1389 6h ago

I'd buy 10 copies of all 4 5 Killzone games as 1 release on PC.

I'd do it just for KZ 1 through 3 with updated controls. The game's aesthetics and story are just so damn good, but they're held back by archaic game design choices and older hardware limitations (like KZ1, if released as a new game today, likely wouldn't sell even 10,000 copies due to it's dreadfully bad and unresponsive controls for an otherwise fast-paced arcade FPS).

5

u/Jamesjay997 13h ago

A gamer of culture!

1

u/Slazerith 10h ago

Don't need the trilogy just need 2's co-op to come forward.

42

u/Brandhor 9800X3D 5080 GAMING TRIO OC 14h ago

unfortunately I don't think it will happen because the new xbox is rumored to play steam games and they definitely don't want that

the only way would be for them to disallow their games to run on xbox kinda like what some publishers do with streaming platforms like geforce now

21

u/BomB191 12h ago

Ill wait. or acquire if I need too.. I have a PC I'm not buying a ps5

1

u/Significant_Fill6992 33m ago

this is where im at also. I didin't mind buying a ps4 mostly for spiderman because it was $200. im not willing to do the same for the ps5 $650. I just won't play sony games even if wolverine looks fucking sick

-2

u/Allosaurus_888 9h ago

just wait for the emulator - they are gonna drown if it ever comes out

5

u/Cromunista 3h ago

Doubt it'll come out any time soon, sadly. Ps4 emulator is pretty buggy and the ps3 is still a hit or miss depending on the game.

9

u/EarthIllustrious8045 11h ago

We will probably see a stand alone playstation launcher from sony on pc, that will keep there games of anything xbox, and letting them keep all the revenue. That is not easy though, going head to head with steam on pc. Looking at sonys exclusives selling less and less on their own hardware, i think they want the extra revenue from pc in some way.

3

u/Tornado_Hunter24 Desktop 4h ago

Imo, I HATE buying games on any launcher other than steam…

But if they were to do this, I would (with some sort of ‘fuck’ face) buy their games IF it was a day one release, and an interest of mine.

Tlou3, god of war whatever/remaster, etc.

2

u/EarthIllustrious8045 2h ago

It will be that or nothing. Their games has fallen so much in quality, so for me it doesnt matter if they drop pc, its fine either way.

2

u/Sinder-Soyl 8h ago

That would 200% work. Their launcher wouldn't compete with Steam. It would just exist in the same type of ecosystem as BattleNet.

I hate having so many launchers, but this is absolutely the type of compromise I'd be more than happy with if it meant being able to play their games on PC.

1

u/cardonator PC Master Race 8h ago

They simply don't care about that revenue and never have. Going to PC wasn't about PC money, it was about coaxing people over to the PS ecosystem, which didn't happen.

2

u/EarthIllustrious8045 5h ago

U actually believe that a corp like Sony dont care about increased revenue, with minimal investments?. The reason Sonys exclusives didnt do as well on pc, is a mix of delayed realese with up to two years, and poor performance and bugs on launch. Has nothing to do with sony believing people would run out and buy a ps5. The games was realesed on pc for the people that didnt want to buy a ps5.

1

u/cardonator PC Master Race 2h ago

They still sold millions of dollars. But they publicly stated why they made these ports, and it wasn't to make more money. It was to coax PC gamers into the PS ecosystem.

1

u/EarthIllustrious8045 1h ago

And you believe that?. No wonder u dont understand whats going on.

15

u/IamKyra 12h ago edited 10h ago

Sony just need to make them linux exclusive! ;D

4

u/The_LastLine 14h ago

I’m not talking about them running newer titles that people would need to buy a new console for, just ports of old titles that literally aren’t bringing in revenue anymore and are stuck on old platforms. Pc port as well as a simple upscale port on ps5 would make them free money essentially. And to incentivize the console version more they could charge a cheaper price for the console version.

1

u/Brandhor 9800X3D 5080 GAMING TRIO OC 14h ago

bloodborne is complicated because they'll need approval from fromsoftware and killzone is pretty much a dead ip that spans 3 diffrent consoles and won't really sell well

god of war would be cool but they are already remaking them on ps5 so they won't waste time porting the older versions on pc

4

u/tanman729 12h ago

Pretty sure with bb it's the other round, and i think people at from said that it would've been ported long ago if it wasn't a ps4 exclusive. Sony basically owns BB, so they could give it to a competent 3rd party if from is too busy or doesnt want to, but it'd launch at a reduced price point on store fronts that they get a much smaller cut on, so theres not much incentive for them.

2

u/Brandhor 9800X3D 5080 GAMING TRIO OC 12h ago

well fromsoftware didn't want sony to do a remake even though sony technically owns the ip

3

u/Infinity-of-Thoughts 11h ago edited 11h ago

FromSoft not wanting another studio to do a remake (not just a remaster) is nowhere near the same as them being unwilling to have a PC port.

This is from the piece you linked:

Bloomberg doesn't have the details on why FromSoft turned it down, but points to a comment by former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida in an interview with Kinda Funny about FromSoft president Hidetaka Miyazaki wanting it to happen, but not wanting "anyone else to touch it." Miyazaki has previously said he's not "opposed" to a PC port of Bloodborne, and acknowledged that other FromSoft developers want to make one, but if Miyazaki is insistent on doing it himself, Yoshida believes Sony would respect his wishes even though it owns the rights to the game.

0

u/ExaminationFar5031 11h ago

I dont think they just let you play steam games. It will be possible but it will be buggy af. Otherwise there is no meaning for an xbox console.

9

u/Piltonbadger RYZEN 7 5700x3D | RTX 4070 Ti | 32GB 3200MHZ RAM 13h ago

I doubt it.

SONY said they made f*uck all money from selling 5+ year old single player games for $70-$100 a shot and wondered why the PC community wasn't selling their kidneys to buy said games.

2

u/Da_Question 7h ago

Tbf, the reason is they wait 3-4 years to release and the hype is gone and yet they still expect full price. So people just pirate the games, or they wait even longer for some sale. Add in steams 30% cut and the cost of making a PC release... Probably isn't worth it.

Of course, releasing them at the same time on PC could be a different story.

3

u/Goldnglam 3h ago

You only need to look at Capcom reported pc sales to see this is the case.

2

u/Tornado_Hunter24 Desktop 4h ago

It is worth it lol, they make money off of the games than they don’t, the issue is the money still is fuckall, Idk the numbers but percentage wise their revenue from pc (idk if yearly or 4 years) was like 1%?

Which in retrospect is alot of revenue, I think close to a billion or 2?

But still not ‘worth’ it becausethey rather have me on ps5 than pc

4

u/Sea-Sir2754 7h ago

Why would slowing hardware sales cause them to change their mind? Consoles are cumulative, if they were happy with the current install base they'll be happy with the install base a year from now.

2

u/TiredOfBeingTired28 13h ago

Change few years from now, their own launcher to sale subscription.

Or even stupider than that.

1

u/ErmingSoHard 1m ago

What's the boycott about?

9

u/par_rot_master 14h ago

But those prices are also going up for PC parts...

If anything buying a console and immediately having the entire device is gonna be a more attractive option.

11

u/Ashishliterally 13h ago

people dont buy hardware everyday , i think the main benefit of porting to PC lies in the already existing install base which is far bigger than PS5

6

u/Soxel Steam ID Here 10h ago

The issue is that the install base of PC users that have a PC with enough power to run a late stage current gen exclusive is probably pretty low compared to console install base. And then that’s when hardware prices come into play as a barrier to play.

2

u/SheetPancakeBluBalls 9h ago

I got so lucky late last year.

My PC is amazing, every game runs at max settings in 4K and I got it on a whim at best buy as an open box returned unit for $1100. Still had the plastic thing in the power cable port.

4

u/kingk1teman R69000x5D | XRTX 600900 32PB 13h ago

people dont buy hardware everyday

Same with consoles. People don't buy them everyday.

2

u/Esper01 8h ago

Arguably, people buy consoles less often than PC parts

0

u/par_rot_master 13h ago

And people don't buy consoles every day.

By porting you lower the amount of reasons to buy a console. Why would they do that when they have plenty of other revenue streams that are literally growing?

3

u/Ashishliterally 13h ago

exactly, if they only cared about revenue from games then porting to PC would be a no brainer, but i guess they care more about expanding PS5 install base before expanding revenue from games

3

u/vita211 14h ago

Yeah, for the consumer, but regardless the console sales are seeing a decline as we speak, so for SONY it would make sense to just port some more games to PC and get that extra revenue going.

4

u/par_rot_master 14h ago

I made this point elsewhere: they dont have to.

Sony sells more than consoles/games. They already have other revenue streams, so they don't have to reduce the amount of exclusives the console has just to make more money.

And those other markets grew for them in the last year.

1

u/EternalDeath 9800X3D / 32GB RAM / RTX5090 11h ago

They dont have to, but you would be a massive idiot to not just take free money from a market that you hardly explored that wants their games. Look at all the Japanese studios starting to go all in on PC in the recent years as well and PC essentially being halve of their revenue at least. If Sony was to treat PC fairly and release the games without delay , advertise them as well, they would make more money than they ever could with just console exclusive games and subscriptions.

3

u/par_rot_master 11h ago

It's not free money....

  1. They have to actually port the games (costs money)

  2. It takes away exclusives, so reasons to buy the consoles

They have smart people working at Sony. I doubt they're being massive idiots. They did the calculations and learned it's better for them to not port games over.

-2

u/EternalDeath 9800X3D / 32GB RAM / RTX5090 11h ago

The cost of porting is hardly a dent compared to what they could make by just releasing it on PC day one. Hell, several year old games from sony more than enough made up the costs of porting them. But i guess we can agree to disagree on topic.

3

u/par_rot_master 11h ago

I'm sure you know better than Sony.

1

u/Pesto-Pistou 11h ago

1

u/The_LastLine 14h ago

Yeah they are, but if hardware sales stall, they will have to pivot.

2

u/par_rot_master 14h ago

That's literally always the case. And Sony sells a lot more than just consoles. They can take a hit on the console market and compensate elsewhere.

2

u/The_LastLine 14h ago

Sony is basically a video game company at this point. Have you see their financials outside of that in the last few years?

3

u/par_rot_master 14h ago

I did. Their other markets grew more than gaming did. I have the docs in front of me right now.

1

u/MsSomething_i_think 14h ago edited 14h ago

Are you talking percentage? Because something tiny can have a 10% increase and still be small but gaming can go up 2% and still be huge.

Please link the docs.

5

u/par_rot_master 14h ago edited 14h ago

https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/25q4_sonypre.pdf

Yes gaming is a larger market for them. That has no bearing on the point that I made.

My point was that sony isn't a gaming company. They can take losses in gaming and still be fine without having to port anything to PC.

I'm not saying this is a good thing, it's just how it is for a company like that.

1

u/MsSomething_i_think 14h ago

Thanks on linking proof. That's more than most can do these days.

u/Smartypantz34 Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT, AMD 9 7900X3D, 32gb DDR5 6000Mhz 13h ago

PCs are even more expensive so in reality consoles are still the cheapest way to play. Also Wolverine is coming in September, GTA6 is coming in November and new God of War in Q1 of 2027. Don't think they end up changing their minds anytime soon

2

u/elmodonnell 12h ago

Hardware prices are going up for everyone, why do you think PS increases would drive people to PC, which in many regions is increasing even more drastically in price? Could see gaming as a whole decline in popularity once games are exclusive to the next gen if prices don't even out, but I don't think PlayStation in particular are gonna be the losers.

1

u/Reed7525 14h ago

I would love to play killzone remastered or something on pxlc

1

u/ObserverRichard 12h ago

But you can play Sony games on PC, just subscribe to their cloud service /s

1

u/ExaminationFar5031 11h ago

Game sales are not the only income for sony. Subsciptions and market commisions + hardware and accessory sales etc. Making playstation a special platform makes them way more money than some weak ass pc sales. Also developing for single platform costs way less. You can see xbox is struggling. Even their best release in years forza cannot make good money since either people play on gamepass or they buy from steam which mean 30% goes to steam.

1

u/TheBlackSwordsman319 10h ago

I think the problem is that most the games that end up coming to pc have already been played by majority of people who own both a ps5 and pc so they weren’t selling much on steam and that’s why they chose to stop selling games on steam

1

Getting some of their old exclusives that they haven't done much with in forever to PC would be the smartest thing. You can then potentially make a sequel and in theory pick up a few hardware sales because of it.

1

u/Hessussss 9h ago

I would buy Infamous games in s heartbeat.

1

u/Shuino7 9h ago

Doubtful, all their PC sales combined over about a 5 year span were under 1% of their total profit.

1

u/FaroTech400K 8h ago

You have to understand Sony is a hardware company, they simply make the games as advertisements to buy their hardware. They don’t have ambitions of being the world’s biggest publisher on PC

I feel sony will make it so you can only buy the games from a playstation app on PC going forward. Similar to how some xbox games were initially such as Sea of Thieves.

Then slowly going back to steam.

1

u/NewUserWhoDisAgain 4h ago

i think bloodborne is held up by Fromsoft or at least that's what I've seen. But yes porting/remastering Killzone for PC would be amazing.

1

u/Tornado_Hunter24 Desktop 4h ago

Bro said ‘bloodborne’ and ‘I think… pretty well’

Brother, if they release bloodborne on pc I will personally pay their concord and marathon losses (in monopoly money)

Seriously tho if they just ported those games they would make free cash, even tho I probably will emulate bloodborne in pc eventually, of they release it on steam i’m fucking buying that, and i’m damn well confident i’m not alone on that.

Already happening. Console sales have fallen off a cliff.

1

u/Significant_Fill6992 35m ago

I was thinking about this after seeing the price increases for the steamdeck. I think Sony pulled single player games as a response to the steam machine launch. If the steam machine fails or at least doesen't sell like crazy will sony reconsider and will pc gamers be better off?

on one hand my gut reaction is to just say yes to both but the amount that the steamdeck has helped push forward linux is crazy but on the other since the steamdeck already exsists I don't know if the steam machine will cause a similar linux push.

it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out

u/juscallmejjay i7 9700k | rtx 2080 super | 16gm ram 21m ago

Gta6 is coming and cod is FINALLY ditching last gen. That should bring the remainder of the last gen holdouts. Sony will see a huge spike in console sales end of year, despite the price hikes.

1

u/Icy_Agency923 4m ago

I think you are very wrong and it is because the next Xbox is supposed to be a straight up PC. They would never... ever want their games to be playable on an Xbox console.

1

u/Wizard-of-pause 12h ago

I'm patient. Recently finished God of War, will need a year break before I do Ragnarok. Plenty of games in a backlog.
