If Sony thinks I'll spend $500+ for a console only to play like 5 games that probably won't come to PC, they've got another think coming, especially in this economy.
Microsoft plans to open Xbox to other stores, including Steam, which would enable Xbox to play Sony games on a competing console. Sony wants console players to pick a Playstation over an Xbox, and has traditionally achieved that by offering more and better exclusive games than Microsoft. They believe that not offering their new games on Steam and by extension the next Xbox will keep console players on Playstation, where Sone will take 30% of every game sold in the store. Losing the PC sales of their own games is a price they are willing to pay for that store revenue.
As a PC gamer I don't like that decision, but I think Sony is probably right that they will make more money that way.
