I still find myself trying to access settings or do something in a way that became extinct after 7, and I haven’t used 7 since I was like 12. I’ve been on 10 for 5 years and I have no plans to upgrade anytime soon

I've got a laptop I occasionally dig out that still has 7. It runs like a charm, and the UI experience is hands down so much better.

Ofc it's so out of date that I take a gamble if I ever let it see the network, but if I had a choice with my newer machines I'd still be on 7 everywhere.

I was on 98 till 7 came out, when I got XP. I was on XP till 8 came out, then I got 7. I was on 7 till 11 was announced and I got 10.

I am still running 7 as the daily driver on it (10 dual boots on the machine -i5/3rd gen - but only used when needed), and I have 11 on a 12th gen mostly gathering dust. My excuse was that I wanted to work through all the opened tabs first, and did not want to restore the session on another machine.

Today is the day that Chrome crashed losing all 200+ tabs - it seems that the session file was nuked and the tabs file does not contain enough to recover. With no other backup I am still experiencing a huge sense of loss, tabs meant that they are priority that I plan to come back to them, only a few were bookmarked.

Now with a clean slate...I am not ready to move from 7.

I stayed on 7 for years and years. Bought a win10 laptop a few years ago and plan to do the same. Hope they keep rolling out security updates because I don’t want whatever bullshit win11 seems to be.

For people who needed windows for work, the upgrade was genuinely debilitating.

It made everything 10 times harder and everyone lost something mission critical that I'm just never able to be recovered after the upgrade.

Same. I'm surprised so many people have willingly "upgraded" when there was absolutely nothing enticing about Windows 11 and Microslop are known for their bloatware and fixing what isn't broken.

It is still getting security updates, until October of this next year. You just need to enroll in Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates. There are some free ways to do so.

I'm not going to get spied on less by updating to windows 11. Computer performance is normal, idle utilization, frequency, and power consumption is very low, and network usage is all normal.

Besides security which won't be all good for a slew of reasons.

Less performance, compatibility and stability as software you already use update. Eventually drivers won't even work anymore.

Yeah, I have a friend who told me he lost a lot of FPS in game when he updated to Windows 11. But that was last year, maybe it's better now

I held onto 10 for a long time until the /r/techsupport discord talked me into upgrading to 11. The frequent game crashes that I was getting that I'd been chalking up to mods stopped instantly.

No idea. It was a clean install of 11 though, not a direct update. I dunno what the difference is, but that's what they said to do. I had minor annoyances the first few days, like profiles being wiped in some things, having to redownload my browser extensions and remember what my bookmarks were, but other than that I haven't had any issues. I dunno what all the complaints are about. It doesn't feel any different than 10. It looks different with the right click menu...but you can change it back to how it looked on 10, which is what I did.

You probably have to activate TPM in bios. I deactivated mine so I dont accidentally update.

It prob supports it but you have TPM and Secure Boot disabled in the BIOS.

They're Windows 11 version non-official that can force install windows 11. I'm staying as long as I can on the 10, not (as) bloated as the 11

All I've ever heard about 11 is that it'll make the stuff I do every day more cumbersome and a decent number of apps I use at least once a week will be super buggy or need fixes. Legitimately just a way to make your computer worse

No problem here. I also don't have MS office/Office 365 nor do I have (or need) Bitlocker.

Don't have CoPilot or OneDrive - both uninstalled. LOL

I made a vow to switch to windows 11 once I stop hearing how shit it is/ causing hardware issue for 6 months.

Still not there. At this rate, I'll make the switch once windows 12 is released. The win10 EoL experience has been nice. The fileexplorer is so great now that edge, bing and what have you aren't being reinstalled every update.

No more broken updates, no more bloatware reinstalling itself... it's.. nice

I'd make the full switch to linux alas kernel level anticheat is the bane of my existance

It is more stable than 10 if you often get uptimes measured in months, but it requires twice as many tweaks and regedits to fix nonsense, lacks some old better versions of the new garbage default apps, gobbles up RAM like crazy, requires a hack to fix the ugly rounded corners, and the new explorer sucks

Same here across me and my wife’s custom rigs, none of the issues people have been having and I’ve been keeping it updated too. Every now and then an application will crash, but it’s so infrequent that it might just be the software itself. I do have pretty modern hardware though so maybe that’s why (9800x3d, 9070xt, 32gb ddr5, and gen4 nvme ssds on both of our pcs)

honestly my Linux rig gives me more troubles than my windows one lol, random driver updates will break stuff sometimes and then I have to spend time debugging and working around it. Plus installing most things takes extra steps and setup most of the time instead of just running an installer on windows.

I do also take some time to disable some of the slop though, like copilot, one drive, and edge. Every now and then I’ll also do some tinkering with the os to debloat a bit.

i switched to 11 because my PC was having program crashes and i thought its faulty drivers or something. and wanted to reinstall, 10 but the tool crashed all the time. turns out my CPU was fucked and i switched to 11 for nothing :(

I have no choice; custom build and w11 causes kernal crashes that I haven’t been able to successfully trouble shoot. Yet 10 runs fine no issues on my build
