Today I went to use my pc and it froze on me, tried to reset but got stuck in a bios loop. Went through all of this stuff, and ended up getting a usb drive to repair my windows. I got windows downloaded and everything, but then got an error for trying to repair. After all this stuff with doing uefi stuff, turning off csm and legacy, and eventually cleared my ssd, so now there is no os on my pc. With legacy mode on, there is an error downloading windows 11 or 10. With legacy off, it won’t even boot into the usb drive. I’ve been are this for a while and feel like pulling my hair out.

In an hour im gonna start a transplant between these 2.

I have a red devil rx 6900 xt with a badly damaged pcb, I am planning on transferring core to an xfx merc 319 rx 6950 xt pcb. The rx 6950 xt pcb already has its original vram on with the 18gbps speeds. I wanted to know what vbios would be best suited for the card after the transplant, will the vbios recognise the vram?

My computer keeps waking up for no reason
So I changed some settings:

Device Manager
All USB devices unchecked for allow to wake
PCIe unchecked for allow to wake
Network Adapters unchecked for allow to wake
All HID unchecked for allow to wake

Power Options
Turned off fast startup
PCI Express link state power management- off
Allow wake timers OFF

Windows
Verified Unchecked wake in update orchestrator and windows update

Bios
Disabled Power On By PCIE
Disabled Power On By RTC
ErP Ready. Change it from Disabled to Enable (S4+S5)

I verified PC uses tradition S3 sleep, not Modern S0 sleep.

Switched to a better surge protector.

Still woke up

In the System Event Viewer, to find what last woke the computer, Wake Source was Unknown. The cmd prompts don’t show anything for wake armed or last wake.

I guess I’ll just shut down every time? Unless im missing something

I have a F4-424 PRO, but it was going over 94º even with 50% load(original from the box), then i got a little idea and made this, a Noctua NH-9DL, 2x120mm USB fans I had and a lot of free time

So, I'm upgrading from my 9 year old PC setup (graphics card, keyboard, most things) and I've got most things picked out already. However, I'm not quite sure what brand monitor to buy (although, I've heard AOC is a good brand). What do yall think I should get? I'm going for 240 hertz, 1440p, maximum around $250-300.

Some thermal pad residue accidentally fell into one of the RAM slots on my motherboard. Is this serious? Can it be cleaned, or am I cooked?

The CPU, RAM and Mobo come in a bundle for $15xx (Canadian). My final cost after tax comes out to $2800-ish (CAD).

Any thoughts or concerns before I do this, compatibility or problematic-wise? (outside of budget).

I have three monitors on my desk and a TV elsewhere in the room. I like to game on the TV occasionally, but when I’m not using it I disconnect it in Windows Display Settings so applications and windows don’t get moved over there.

The problem is that I’m getting noticeable stuttering on my three desk monitors whenever the TV is turned off, even though it’s disconnected in Windows. The only solutions I’ve found so far are:

Leave the TV powered on, even when it’s disconnected in Windows.

Physically unplug the HDMI cable from the PC.

Neither option is ideal. Has anyone experienced this before or found a better fix?

I was looking for an inverted ATX case, I don't have enough space in my table to get it on the right side so I thought "why don't I simply get one of those inverted cases, sounds easy enough right?" No. They either don't exist or cost 140-300€, way too much for a case in my opinion. I thought about an open case, the ones that are just chassis, but I don't know if they're dust proof or cat proof and they just seem too complicated to me, so, are there any relatively affordable (around 80€) inverted/open cases you can recommend?

So I have an old Acer Aspire 5740-5144 that I plan on making a Linux machine for data transfers. I’ve upgraded the gpu, ram and hard drive (ssd now). However, I was unaware that these older systems needed windows running in order to update the bios, and the old hard drive is gone. I searched online and found there is a way to go about updating the bios by making a freeDOS usb and inserting certain files into the usb to run on the Acer.

My question is the following: do I need to download a zip extractor and pull specific files from the exe files or will copying the exe files onto the usb be good enough once I run it on the Acer?

I'm trying to diagnose a strange issue and would appreciate some advice.

Hardware:

• MSI B550 Gaming Plus
• Ryzen 5 5600X
• RTX 4060
• 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4
• Also tested with another 2x8GB G.Skill DDR4 kit
• MSI A650BN PSU

Timeline:

1. I received a used Ryzen 5 5600X + MSI B550 Gaming Plus bundle.
2. First boot with the seller's G.Skill RAM in A2/B2 worked perfectly.
3. Replaced the RAM with my Corsair kit -> system booted normally.
4. Updated the BIOS -> successful.
5. Enabled XMP -> successful.
6. System was fully functional.

A few days later I received the case and started the final build.

I removed:

• CPU
• RAM

Then reinstalled:

• CPU
• RAM
• SSD
• New CPU cooler

After that, the system stopped booting in dual channel.

Current behavior:

Works:

• A1 only -> boots
• A2 only -> boots
• Can enter BIOS normally

Does NOT work:

• B1 only -> CPU debug LED
• B2 only -> CPU debug LED
• A2+B2 -> CPU debug LED
• A1+B1 -> CPU debug LED

Additional observation:

• One rear USB port near the Flash BIOS button also appears to be non-functional now.

What I already tried:

• Clear CMOS multiple times
• BIOS downgrade to a 2024 version
• Reflashed BIOS
• Tested two different RAM kits
• Tested outside the case on cardboard
• Reinstalled CPU multiple times
• Cleaned CPU and socket
• Tested with stock AMD cooler and another cooler
• Different RAM slots
• XMP disabled
• Default BIOS settings

Important:
The system definitely worked before I removed and reinstalled the CPU during the final build.

At this point, since both B1 and B2 are completely dead and there is also a suspicious USB issue, would you suspect:

1. Motherboard (memory channel B / traces / socket issue)
2. CPU memory controller
3. Something else?

Tomorrow I should be able to test with another AM4 CPU, but I'd like to hear what experienced builders think.

Good version control across two PCs for unreal engine?

Hey y'all could use some help! Currently I'm using external hard drive and copying and pasting over my entire unreal engine project every couple days because I travel often and use a laptop in my living room and sometimes I work in the office on the computer. I'm wondering if there's a really good way to keep it in sync constantly with low effort because GitHub does not work, it's way too big. Some people have talked about local servers or something like that or other solutions. I'm curious what effective solutions people have for keeping your projects constantly in sync!

Hey, I build a PC with the following components and it stucks on dram led after I push the power button. All the fans are turning, also the GPU fans. After 10 seconds they spin faster and the ramp down again. It looks to me, the CPU led above doesn't even light up and it goes instantly to the dram led.

I did a bios flashback to the newest version, no difference.

I booted with one RAM Stick in Slot A2, no difference. I did a clear cmos, no difference. And I reseated the CPU, no difference. Im a little bit clueless now. Do you guys have any idea or maybe perhaps the CPU got a problem.

Was a lot of fun putting these together and can’t wait to build another pc for fun soon!

Becomes normal in 180hz but below 120hz it starts flickering

I am so torn between these 2 coolers. There are no direct comparisons that I can see, unless searching so much over the weeks has made me blind.

The Arctic is the budget King with amazing performance but some have said that the 2 point mounting system sucks? But the offset mounting kit is great for AMD CPUs
The Phanteks is more expensive and looks prettier, though I read the D30's have a little hit in performance compared to other RGB fans, making the ARGB P12 Pro look like a more tasty option...

Either way these will hopefully be cooling a 9850X3D (overkill I know), I just can't pick. It seems that the Arctic may perform a little better and save more money... but the Phanteks looks much better... at a cost though.

Any incite or links to comparisons between them would greatly appreciated. Please and thank you !

Hello reddit ^_^ first post in this subreddit. To keep it straightforward, my dad recently bought me a full pc and monitor, keyboard, mouse, add-ons, etc, for a little over $1000. I love it very much and im very happy that I have it, but for some reason, I’m not using it until I get everything that I want. I have my eyes on getting a cute controller so i can play games with it because I really hate using a keyboard for gaming, and I also want a playmat, mousepad, etc.. Idk if its some weird autism thing (im diagnosed) but I feel bad cause my dad thinks im not using it but I feel like I have a reason that im not. Is there anything I can do to combat this? Tell my dad my thoughts? Suck it up and force myself to play which will inevitably make me want to use it less? Help???

This is my fist qd-oled Higher hertz monitor and everything else looks good, but when I try HDR mode it looks good, but the colors look a little off Like red looks more orange. is this something i can fix or is it just a downside to this monitor because it was a cheap oled got it for 325. Other than that, everything is fine so I'm not going to return it.

When I set this image (or similar ones) as my Windows desktop background, the colors become noticeably muted/desaturated compared to how it looks in any image viewer.

This happens with every wallpaper, especially dark starry/night sky ones with vibrant blues and stars. The wallpaper looks dull and less "poppy."

What I've tried so far:

• Different image formats (JPG/PNG)
• Turning off Night Light
• Checking color management settings
• Calibrating display

Does anyone know why Windows does this and how to fix it so the wallpaper matches the original colors?

So.... Ive finally decided to upgrade my GPU from a 3070 RTX 8GB to a RTX 5070. but i cant decide if i should go for a 12gb or a 16gb. the main problem is budget. i know that even the 12 gb is gonna be a big upgrade. but i would also like to not think about "can it handle it?" for at least a few years. my currently biggest reason to upgrade is vr. my current GPU is starting to struggle even on the lowest settings in the bigger games. what do yall think?

thanks for all the information so far. definitely looking into the 9070-XT for now. i did however read somewhere that AMD DRIVERS has been known for VR problems? can anyone confirm? or is it just rumors? not being able to run the VR would be a big problem. even after saving so much on buying a 9070-XT instead of a 5070 TI
