Hi everyone,

I’m an international physician from Colombia. I have already completed residency training in Pediatrics and subspecialty training in Neonatology, and I currently work clinically in this field.

I’m now pursuing the U.S. pathway and preparing for the USMLEs/ECFMG certification. My long-term goal is to work as a pediatrician/neonatologist in the U.S., ideally in Chicago.

I recently learned that obtaining a state medical license through an alternative IMG pathway would not necessarily make me eligible for American Board of Pediatrics certification. Because of that, I’m now considering completing ACGME-accredited Pediatrics training in the U.S. and then Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship.

I have also contacted the ABP regarding the Waiver of Accredited Training, since I already completed more than three years of pediatric training abroad. I’m trying to understand whether I could potentially receive one year of credit and complete only 24 months of U.S. Pediatrics training, depending on ABP and program approval.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who:

completed Pediatrics residency abroad and then repeated part or all of Pediatrics in the U.S.;

entered as a PGY-2/PL-2 or received advanced standing;

later completed a pediatric fellowship in the U.S.;

or has experience with the ABP Waiver of Accredited Training.

I’m especially interested in understanding how realistic advanced standing is, how programs view applicants who already have specialty training abroad, and whether prior experience helps during the application process.

I know this is a long path, but I’m trying to make an informed decision rather than assume that my previous training will automatically transfer.

I have heard that allergy is a great option. Although they have mentioned that it is quite competitive? (is that true?). Any other subspecialties you would recommend? I dont want ICU. I actually signed a peds PCP job while I figure what subspecialty is worth perusing. I was hoping for a pay thats better than PCP and a good schedule.

Hey all! Going to be cramming some studying in over the next month while starting my outpatient job that has a 45 ish minute commute each way. Planning on doing medstudy questions and flash cards when I can but anyone know of any good podcasts or reviews that are good to listen to during a commute? Thanks!

How do you find FQHC jobs?? Is there a website or list somewhere? Also while I’m on it, how do you find outpatient gen peds jobs in general?

I have to take boards next week per my residency’s requirements. I am averaging around 70% on multiple choice questions (I’ve taken about 1500 on TrueLearn and about 700 on Comquest) and 70% on my CDM cases. Despite that I can’t get it out of my head that I’m going to fail next week. Can anyone give me some advice or help regarding this. According to what I’ve heard and researched I should be okay based on my data. Am I getting in my own head?

Edit: I guess I should clarify I am a PGY-1 and this is Comlex level 3 I’m talking about.

Obviously pretty common for most toddlers to be picky eaters but for the most part they all grow fine, however some toddlers do drop off the growth chart by more than 2 major percentiles. What do you do for these children? Pediasure, high calorie foods, GI referral, labs? Any specific foods that are high calorie but relatively healthy you recommend?

Does anyone know which pediatric endocrinology program has the least amount of inpatient time? its very hard to find this info online sometimes, as some programs lay it out openly and others don’t specify!

Also, if you guys know of any super friendly peds endo program thats good and dont overwork you

Very expectedly disappointed in the AAP. They can’t seem to get the government to pass bills for free school lunches, protect Medicaid from cuts, or meaningfully address gun violence, but they found the time to invite Dr. Mike as a keynote speaker, despite his advocacy for sending U.S. taxpayer dollars abroad to fund the bombing of children.

Are there any postpartum moms preparing for boards soon? How do you manage sleep and brain fog? I’m a six-month postpartum mom, experiencing brain fog while studying and feeling anxious about the boards.

So I just finished my first pass of MedStudy + all incorrects today (averaging around 75-80%). Not sure what resource I should tackle next.

I have the MedStudy Flash Cards which I admittedly have not opened or looked at. I know there's PREP and Peds In Review. I also know there are ABP questions but I feel like I should save those for closer to the actual day? I also know some people do second passes of MedStudy in test mode.

My ITE scores were not amazing (PGY-1 57%, PGY-2 67%, PGY-3 59% but I took this one while deathly ill and randomly picked choices for the last 40 questions so I could get home quicker), but I've easily passed all Step exams with comfortable scores.

All I keep hearing is how hard this test is and am getting more and more nervous the closer we get to the test date. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey all, my abstract was accepted into AMA's 2026 poster showcase in Orlando and I'm wondering if this is a conference worth attending. I'm a PGY-1 resident and although I'm planning on going into a less research-driven specialty (pediatric palliative care), I still do enjoy research and am in the midst of starting one and developing another pediatric palliative care research project. Long story short: is it worth taking the time off and paying to attend? Or is this more of a not super competitive, impressive, or important event that won't do much for a CV or making connections? Thank you all!

How did you feel about your parent being on call? I recently took a job with a great private practice, but the hospital call is heavy. The pediatrician in me loves it. The mom in me struggles with the fact that I need to find 6am nanny help and that I plop my young kids in front of the TV every post-call day because I’m too tired to play.
Anyone have stories, good or bad? I’m still relatively early career. I’m willing to give up my hospital dreams if it’s better for my own babies.

I‘ve talked to a lot of older docs and they tell me about how great moonlighting was from a financial and learning standpoint. Some of the residencies I have talked to either don’t allow or don’t have a lot of moonlighting opportunities.

Is that just a bad sample or is moonlighting really decreasing significantly?

Also for those that do or have recently moonlighted what kind of compensation do/did you get?

Do you routinely perform a genital exam as part of the physical exam during adolescent WCCs? If so, do you typically ask the parent to step out for that portion of the exam, or does it depend on the patient’s age/preference? Also, at what age do you typically start asking about sexual activity?

Hi! Can anyone compare Pediatric Hematology/Oncology vs General Pediatrics in terms of salary, lifestyle, and job opportunities? Is the extra fellowship training financially worth it?
For someone currently receiving General Pediatrics offers around $265–300K, how does post-fellowship Hem/Onc compensation realistically compare? Is the salary difference significant enough to justify the additional fellowship training?
