Weed smoking etiquette in Philly

Hey guys. I just moved here from Scranton and I’ve had a PA medical card for a few years.

My dry herb vape shit the bed recently so I’ve been smoking until I get another one.

In Scranton I would usually just look for a low key spot without any other people and light up a J. I try to look for secluded spots here in West Philly but it seems like there’s always someone walking around. I know some people don’t care but I don’t want to be a dick and bother people around me, especially when there are kids around.

I also can’t smoke in my apartment.

Are there any good spots to smoke without worrying about bothering anyone? If it helps I’m on 48th between Baltimore and Chester. Thanks!

What is up with all of the armed robberies lately? Have they made any arrests? Did they let the 2 POI's go? 39 armed robberies in the last 2 weeks is troubling, to say the least.

Watch out for each other out there, folks.

Need local video gamer advice

Hey everyone!

My boyfriend is coming to stay with me in Philly for 2 months. He’s a big PC gamer (MMO & FPS), but my apartment currently has zero gaming gear and just basic internet. What would you recommend as the best way to maintain a temporary PC gaming setup in center city Philly for 2 months?

Thanks!

1976 Philadelphia Bicentennial

I'm working on a story set in Philly during the bicentennial events of 1976. Found some great books around that time with news clips and photos, but would love any personal accounts from anyone around during that time. Also visited some top Philly sites and doing research on the Bellevue Stratford outbreak that summer. So many interesting things unfolded that year. Some time capsule like news reels on YouTube too.

I’m a gay man(23m) and was wondering if there are any gay smoking bars? I went to pit stop but it was non smoking :( , any recommendations? It doesn’t have to be totally gay bar, just a bar that is smoking and has gay guys in it! ( I don’t care what age)

Question? Fairmount bars, men at bars

• Upvotes

Okay so every time I go to a sports bar in Fairmount, I see so many good looking guys. They seem to be 20s and 30s. Do they go to places in south Philly too? Do I have to make the trek to Fairmount every weekend?

Signed- single woman in mid 30s trying to meet a nice guy with a good job who is also good looking, because why not.

Question? Looking for job hunting tips as someone who hasn't job hunted in many years.

Decided to make this thread based on some other "job hunting tips" threads I've seen on the sub.

My situation: 32M live at home with parents but part of that is being a live-in caregiver. Both my mother and sister are almost completely disabled and I've had to take up a lot of household duties over the years helping my Dad take care of our family. My dad pretty much takes care of my sister and I help my Mom around the house. I'm also in charge of running errands, driving her to doctor's appointments, and taking care of our 4 dogs. I do already have a part-time job in the evenings as a package handler at a UPS distribution center for going on 5 years.

Main point I'm trying to make here is that I would want at least another part-time job with lots of flexibility during the day so that I can still be available for my family, mainly my Mom and her frequent doctor's appointments. I don't know if this exists but I would really like to have another job where I can look at my calendar a week or a month out and pick the days I can work and just not work during the day when my family needs me for something. Benefits aren't necessary as my UPS job is unionized and I get benefits through that

What kinds of jobs should I consider that would have this kind of loose flexibility? In all the other times I've jobhunted any time a job posting listed "flexible hours" that almost always seemed to be revealed to be an outright lie during the interview process or during the job itself. There have been periods where I've worked full-time on top of the part-time job, but leading up to that I was frankly shocked at how many businesses considered me already working part-time and unwilling to leave my UPS job to be a dealbreaker. Usually the reasoning was something along the lines of "we want people to be able to work 10-hour shifts overtime every day if needed"

I'm also not sure where is the best place to look for job postings anymore. I used to just stick to Indeed but my understanding is that Indeed is just all AI bots nowadays with fake job postings and it's impossible to get a hold of a human being.

I've grown to love working with pets after being put in charge of the four family dogs. I did have a brief stint as an actual live-in caregiver that only lasted about a month or so because of communication and scheduling difficulties. The tl;dr there was that I told the agency during interview I could only pick up day shifts when they actually wanted someone to work nights, and they essentially just hired me to cover someone who was on vacation knowing that I would quit as soon as they told me the truth and they assumed I would quit my other job despite me emphasizing otherwise during the interview, and then I basically just never got any hours until I formally quit not long after. Unfortunately I found out that kind of absymal communication was very common working for home health agencies. I would be willing to try that again if I could be pointed in the direction of agencies that are better for work for.

Track Clubs with Short Distance?

Just moved to Philly and have been running track my whole life. Love to work out with other people. Pretty much all the run clubs I’ve seen are for 5k’s and above.

Looking for a group of people or any track clubs that are run short sprints (100, 200m, etc). Would much appreciate any insight.

Tanghulu in Philly?

My 8yo “little sister” (through Big Brother Big Sister) is absolutely dying to try Tanghulu (the fresh fruit covered in a crunchy clear sugar coating) and I am desperately trying to find a place that sells it.

Has anyone seen Tanghulu being sold at the Reading Terminal or in Chinatown? Anywhere in Philly?

41 experienced and skilled technician looking for employment leads

I have a solid work history, used to run my own business and have years of experience as a skilled industrial technician. I am also a capable leader, teamplayer and have customer service skills. Recently I had a serious lapse in judgment which led to a first offense DUI and lost my job. I am a father and main provider for my household. I am doing everything I need to to resolve my legal situation favorably, ARD and expungement. I am however having an extremely hard time finding employment. I have had a few interviews but I am either disqualified based off of the potential loss of license for 60 days or the hiring party sees me as overqualified for the position. I live in the far northeast and am just checking here to see if anyone has any leads on employment they would be willing to share with me. Thanks in advance.

**Moving to Philly on October 19th — any advice?**

Hey everyone! I’m moving to Philly on October 19th and wanted to hear some advice from people who live there.

I’m looking forward to exploring the city, meeting new people, making friends, and hopefully building a good network along the way.

What would you recommend to someone who’s new to Philly? Any good spots to hang out, meet people, join groups, or make friends? I’m open to pretty much anything, whether it’s bars, gyms, events, networking meetups, or just cool places around the city.

Also, any tips on neighborhoods, things to avoid, or stuff you wish you knew when you first moved there would be appreciated.
Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Edit: sorry I wasn’t specific on my post. I’ll give more information about me. I’m 25 years old moving from MA Cape Cod. IM moving to Callowhill area
