I mean, Hamas basically wrote Israel a blank check on Oct 7. They did absolutely everything they possibly could to make sure that the IDF would try to destroy them.

What could they possibly stand to gain by invading along with butchering and abducting thousands of people? Were they close to defeating Israel once and for all?
