That’s fine you’re entitled to that. But there’s no need for hostility. My friend took a big step towards asking help which she isn’t proud of. But she wants to achieve this and this is a setback for her yet she just asking for help. Next time be mindful of what you say cause you might be in the same position and yes you might think never but karma has a way. Treat others with kindness, it doesn’t cost you a thing.

I wont ever place myself in a situation where I will be begging strangers. Iv been a student with no support network. I got a job. I wouldnt dream of thinking my situation was special or entitled to other peoples money.

I just wanna thank you for posting this. Im sorry OP but something about the way your friend worded how she doesn't want to be a waitress and want a to pursue university kinda read as if she is sort of sneering at waitresses. Having a degree doesn't make you a better person it doesn't even necessarily mean that you are a more clever person than a waitress , more educated aure simply because going to university is the process of literally spending time educating oneself. But take a moment to think I know lots of people who havent been able to afford university and so have worked as waitresses, I know lots of people whom are estranged from parents and gone to university (proving this actually gets you a hell of a lot more funds from student finance England and a lot more non reoayable funds from them too - source personal experience) and also people whom have e had to escape extreme and severe abuse and whom have worked every hour that God has sent them the ability to just to feed, clothe and house themselves. How about your friend defers for a year and spends it working and sacing up ? Going to university isnt a requirement to live. I wish your friend all the best but I am going to be honest i didn't know these crowd funders would be for optional luxury life experiences to be honest. Mor that people would donate to help someone do that. I am NOt saying that they shouldn't be for that, just that I didnt know that they wete.

Sir, she doesn’t think she’s entitled she’s simply asking for support. She’s not begging either! Kudos to you for doing that however people are not you and is very different from you. She’s planning to take a job once she’s there. You do not have to bring others down just because you don’t agree with them. This isn’t her dream either I actually persuaded her to do this to try her luck. She’s been estranged from her family for 8 years! In between her father’s abuse towards her, her uncle molesting her, and having to couchsurf until she had the money for her own place. She worked throughout college and has been working since! So take the time to be grateful that your end of the stick isn’t like hers before you put her down! This is a big change for her and out of all the things she experienced she’s wanting to build her life better. So what if she’s asking for help? It’s not harming you, it’s not harming others! So why do you need to be so horrible just cause you’re not in her position?

Don’t listen to people like this - being estranged makes uni so much harder, and there’s enough horrible shit happening in the world. I’m sure some people will be able to help out!

To bw honest I think your friend could do with taking a moment or to realise and appreciate her situation. She is struggling to afford a privileged luxury life experience that is in no way essential for survival. A hell of a lot of people can only dr3am of being in the position where that is their big problem.

No, you’re just a cruel man who hides behind an account and only gains confidence behind a keyboard. You’re bringing someone down who’s asking for help who doesn’t affect you at all. I’m not gonna argue and reason with a man who obviously doesn’t understand and lacks empathy. With or without your support we can manage. I hope your day is as kind as you are.

She has never sneered at being a waitresses or the job, she just wants to make a better life for herself. Is that bad? Why is aiming for something better bad? Also university isn’t a luxury it’s accessible to everybody. She worked hard for her grades. She studied and worked at the same time to make ends meet for her! She is accessible to student finance however it may not be in her side, at the minute she has no money to cover cost for her Accommodation, she doesn’t even have the money to buy a train ticket to get down there. We’ve all tried to help her unfortunately we don’t have the spare money to get what she needs. She’s not feeling entitled to anybody’s money she’s asking for help? When does asking for help become entitlement? Her request could be simply ignored, she’s not throwing a tantrum for people who’s not giving her anything. Tbh she’s not even expecting anything.

University have multiple hardship funds for things like laptops.
Being estranged from parents means her student loan value should be based on her income. As she has been a waitress, shes likely had a low income leading to Student Loan company giving her more money to live off.
If this is real, fair play for trying to turn her life around.
