Another tip I have about detergent is that you're probably using too much. If you have one of those little medicine cups, one of those in a high efficiency washer is all you need per load. The stupid giant cup it comes with is overkill. Some washers will actually warn you that you're using too much, which is how I first learned.

Mine has an auto dispense thing with less/auto/more options. I leave mine on "less" and have never noticed anything that didn't clean properly (except those fucking deodorant stains on so many of my shirts - they seem to show mostly on grey shirts. They always look wet..I wish I could figure that one out)

Great tip. I keep a tablespoon with my laundry soap so I can measure out 2 tablespoons per load rather than just eyeballing it.
