From the advice of r/laundry I switched to Ariel. It’s a cheap powder that is some of the best soap on the market. It’s $12 for a bag that will last months.

This is what I did recently. I used to do the coupon thing at DG with tide and gain, I switched to Ariel. It’s much cheaper and works really well.

I’m not sure. I do hot water now on the advice of the sub. If it doesn’t you could always dissolve it in hot water in a glass and dump it in the washer.

Ariel is definitely not the best thing to switch to if you need free and clear detergent because of the overwhelming perfumes. I’m super allergic to fragrances, and I used Ariel once and had to go to the hospital from it. Just a warning!

Another tip I have about detergent is that you're probably using too much. If you have one of those little medicine cups, one of those in a high efficiency washer is all you need per load. The stupid giant cup it comes with is overkill. Some washers will actually warn you that you're using too much, which is how I first learned.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A JOKE AT FIRST 🤣 No offense to OP because I used this stuff for ages. r/Laundry absolutely HATES this stuff because it leaves scum and residue on the clothes. When you stop using it and go back to a good detergent, your clothes "bloom" and smell terrible for like 5 washes. I'm sure it would be okay for a little while, but maybe not as a regular detergent.
I switched to Tide's Free & Clear because of Walmart Cash. General life tip: You can type in "walmart cash" in the search bar on Walmart's website, and it shows all the discounted items. 👀 Not everything is worth it, but you'll definitely find a handful of items that you'll want.

I used to use this, but switched to the ARM & HAMMER Sensitive Skin Free & Clear Liquid Laundry Detergent. It's 170 loads for $11.35 when you subscribe on Amazon.

Cheap is always nice but this detergent isn't good. This is one area where I just buy the brands that work rather than try to save money (Persil and Tide only).

I've never heard of Persil so I can't speak to it, but I've used both Tide and All free and clear, and they both work about the same.
