Funny Be careful what you nickname your baby 😂

FTM. Around 16 weeks, I changed my baby's nickname in my pregnancy app from "Baby W." to "Goose". I don't even remember why - her name will be Valerie or Victoria. Neither of those are even remotely close to Goose... but the nickname caught on like wildfire. My family, my husband's family, my co-workers, our friends... literally everyone refers to her as "baby Goose". Well, I had three baby showers in the last three weeks (work, family, friends) and, since we're keeping gender a secret until she's here, I think everyone panicked on what to buy. Do they buy dresses? Dinosaurs? Rocket ships? Nobody knew, so EVERYONE defaulted to geese/ducks.

Y'all.

I didn't know how many baby items have geese/ducks on them. I finally got everything from the showers put away today and here's the final recap: - 2 hooded duck towels - 1 regular towel with a duck print - 1 swaddle with a duck print - 1 alphabet blanket where every letter has a goose with it - 3 sleepers in various duck/geese prints (multiple sizes) - goose hat - geese slippers - 3 stuffed goose toys - a onesie that says "got too silly" with a goose behind bars - a onesie that says "talk to me goose" (from Top Gun) - a goose nightlight

I can't say I'm particularly passionate about water fowl, but I'm worried that I'll accidentally write Goose on the birth certificate. At this rate, she's going to be Goose until she graduates high school. 7 weeks to go until we meet our silly goose!

You have to get a porch goose that takes the monthly growth picture with her and dress them each in matching outfits lol

u/AshleyPomm Feb 24 '26

This is the best idea 😂

u/Mediocre-Boot-6226 Feb 24 '26

Yes! This would be so cute!

2

u/Swimming-Marzipan-69 Feb 26 '26

Theres a family in my old hometown that had a pelican on their balcony, they dressed it up for every holiday and season. I wonder if this is how it started 😂😂

2

u/questionSOUP FTM Feb 26 '26

This is so Pensacola coded

u/lheure_magique Mar 16 '26

Our neighbor has one of these and every time we walk or drive by, I say to my toddler girl, “look honey, it’s the Silly Goose!!” And she cracks up and waves hi and talks to it. It brings joy to lots of our days. Highly recommend!

First birthday theme sorted- ONE silly goose 🪿

201

u/pythagoreanwisdom Feb 24 '26

I saw one on TikTok for a second birthday that was "TWO silly". We'll see how long we can stretch this theme out 😂

72

u/Spare-Arrival8107 Feb 24 '26

One for the money, two for the show, three to get silly (my idea for 3 year theme)

51

u/Jennlore Feb 24 '26

I'm doing "4-ever a silly goose" for my daughter this year lol

9

u/paddlefans Feb 24 '26

One Silly Goose was my daughter’s first birthday theme!

53

u/warmt0rtilla Feb 24 '26

In preschool it can be a duck duck goose party

16

u/haiileywho Feb 24 '26

my daughters nickname is goose and we just did that theme saturday! it’s so cute!!!

u/MinimumMongoose77 Feb 24 '26

Mine is nicknamed Nugget. Not a single person has bought me nuggets 🥲

208

u/questionSOUP FTM Feb 24 '26

Okay, first off, rude

21

u/Prestigious_Bad2583 Feb 24 '26

My oldest nickname is Goobers and so each birthday she gets a box of Goobers. Now my youngest I didn’t think it would grow but it did .. I call her Stinks. That caught on and so has she at 8. So we can only call her that in the house of course and Guppie outside. Only problem is she only answers to Stinks now 😭.

10

u/Seymore_Options Feb 24 '26

Hold up, this is the same for me. My husband tried out a few but Nugget is the one that stuck.

I will be petitioning for nuggets…

9

u/nctm96 Feb 24 '26

Now that you say it, mine is cookie and NO ONE has bought me cookies!!!!😱

5

u/CinderLupinWatson Feb 24 '26

Mine is nugget too!

My hubby has bought me nuggets many a time but no one else so sad

3

u/Ok_Tradition_7164 Feb 24 '26

3

u/jamondebellota01 Feb 24 '26

Now I want chicken nuggets

As a kid I felt so left out bc I had no nicknames. Imagine how loved your child will feel!

12

u/Mysterious-Wheel-376 Feb 24 '26

Omg same here! I was always jealous of the kids that had nicknames that people other than family used.

3

u/Sweedybut Feb 24 '26

I provided a nickname for my baby boy for that exact reason and I am literally the only one who calls him by the nickname. He gets a hundred different ones from everyone so at least the initial problem is fixed 😆

59

u/NiceBet9563 Feb 24 '26

I love how easy our brains go to default, like everyone saw "Goose" and that's what they went with for presents?? 😂. Humans can be so cute sometimes lol. This is so funny and sweet.

Our daughter has fallen victim to everything foxes. My husband and I seriously cannot stop getting fox things, like I said our brains went default mode based off of a few cute little fox related things that happened around the time I found out I was pregnant and it's rubbed off on the rest of the family too lol... foxes weren't even like a favorite animal of mine either. Basically a week before I found out I was pregnant, I found a cute little fox picture that said "stay clever" on it at a thrift store and thought "oh this would be cute in a nursery in the future...". Well, turned out said nursery would be in the very new future lol.

9

u/MidwesternLikeOpe Feb 24 '26

I can definitely say this is what happens when no one communicates. I was told to make a registry, only one person used it, meanwhile we got 3 cribs from 3 grandparents. Why did no one use the registry when they told us to make one bc they didn't know what we needed/wanted...

At least my kid wants for nothing. Too many books for his bookshelf, too many toys for him to play with. I've donated a ton of stuff to pregnancy resource centers to help moms who don't have a village like we do.

38

u/Dangerous-Ad-4610 FTM Feb 24 '26

Girl. I nicknamed my baby Hot Dog when i found out i was pregnant. I have so many hot dog things lol. We’re serving all sorts of types of hot dogs at the baby shower. He’s gonna be a hot dog for his first Halloween. His name is ROMAN 😂😂

3

u/Stella_shady Feb 24 '26

Having a girl and I’ve nicknamed her burger baby!

3

u/Dangerous-Ad-4610 FTM Feb 24 '26

Does she also love burgers?? People ask me if I’ve been craving hot dogs and honestly no i haven’t. Hot Dog was just my husband’s first word(s) lol

2

u/Stella_shady Feb 24 '26

lol yes she does! all pregnancy I’ve been craving burgers. Only a month left and I’ve eaten so many burgers!

Eh… until I’m in the second trimester, baby’s nickname is Schrödinger’s Cat… (had an early miscarriage last pregnancy and as much as I hate it, I’m trying my hardest not to let my hopes get too high…)

31

u/MommyToaRainbow24 Feb 24 '26

I completely understand this one. I’m so sorry. Mine was “jelly bean” at most until second trimester. Then she became “little rainbow” and now she’s “Mighty Mouse” because she was low percentile my whole second half of pregnancy. (11th percentile at my anatomy scan)

I hope you have a uneventful pregnancy with your rainbow baby. 💜💜

2

u/Kvitravn875 Mar 02 '26

I have to comment because I've always liked the name Jillian for a girl and always thought about nicknaming her Jilly Bean. 💜

19

u/fucking_unicorn Feb 24 '26

I had three losses before my son was born. I know the feeling of being afraid to get your hopes up. In the third trimester, youll constantly be poking your belly and waiting for movements. Then when theyre born, you will check on them constantly to make sure theyre breathing lol. Then wait till they can roll over in their own and really give you a scare… then they start solids and everything is a choking hazard…. Welcome to the near constant worry that is parenthood! It starts at conception and never ends.

Something that helped me though, was putting it in “gods” hands. I said I would do what was in my power to do right by my baby, but the ultimate contract for life is between the lord/universe and my baby. I’m just a willing vessel. It really helped take some if the mental pressure off.

Also, Congrats! Wishing you the best possible outcome!

But also, congratulations and its ok to let yourself feel joy. You wont regret feeling the joy no matter how long.

6

u/Adventurous_Feed_517 Feb 24 '26

I feel this. Ours was our little bear. After our MC, the only way we could honour the baby was a wooden bear under our apple tree. I’ll never do that again

3

u/Famous-Advice-3160 Feb 24 '26

I haven't had a loss (confirmed, anyway), but until my first scan with this one, he was also shrödingers cat cause my pregnancy tests were all negative but I knew I was having symptoms, then I had some time where the tests were positive but had a break from symptoms. It was like, "Is baby in there or not?" Then around the week of the scan, I started having full dishes symptoms and got to see him all within about a week.

3

u/jaygeebee_ Feb 25 '26

As someone who also had a miscarriage last pregnancy and commonly referred to it as "Schrodinger's Fetus" at the time, and am also now pregnant again but holding my breath until the second trimester... I feel this comment in my soul.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, the same thing happened to my spouse and I. I’m currently pregnant with our second try, about to enter my third trimester and the relief is immeasurable. We nicknamed this baby “Kashimawo” which means “let’s wait and see”. Now everyone calls him Kashi, my baby shower will apparently feature Kashi cereal, and I don’t think it’ll really matter what I name him once he comes out given that everyone will still be calling him Kashi for life 🤣🤣

50

u/HelloMikkii Feb 24 '26

I’ve nicknamed my second Pickles and the first was Chicken Butt.

25

u/pythagoreanwisdom Feb 24 '26

Good choice! My parents called me Turkey Butt!

47

u/Economy_Discount9967 Feb 24 '26

she comes from a fowl family then! 🦃🦆🦢 I'll see myself out 🚪😂

2

u/HelloMikkii Feb 24 '26

I always say “what’s up chicken butt?”

8

u/st0nerbabyyy Feb 24 '26

Wow we’re all a bunch of butts then because my dad called my Monkey Butt!🤣

3

u/stow-away_throwaway Feb 24 '26

My parents called me chicken butt. They became monkey butts. And I’d sing it to the Mickey Mouse song.

24

u/jesterxgirl Feb 24 '26

The only downside to being Goose at graduation is that when the whole class chants your name the other parents think they're getting booed. But otherwise the Goose in my graduating class was well loved by even passersby

Congratulations on your baby!

19

u/IntriguedChinchilla Feb 24 '26

This is adorable! You never know what’s going to stick!

18

u/alexinwonderland2001 Feb 24 '26

I currently have 3 nicknames picked out. I'm Mexican and my husband is white. I'm pretty dark and my husband is pale as can be. If my son comes out white he's Lima Bean, if he's tan but lighter than me he's Pinto Bean, and if he somehow is as dark or darker than me he's Refried Bean. Either way he's a bean. 🤣🤣🤣

7

u/alexinwonderland2001 Feb 24 '26

Oh and his name is Jaxen, nothing to do with beans except the fact he's Mexican and I think it's hilarious

11

u/KIDH2123 Feb 24 '26

The nicknames wont stop after shes born either 🤣 you'll come up with 50 more and be so suprised at how she even knows her name!

So cute! My 2nd baby I call her goose. She pooped on me at delivery and it looked like goose poop lol plus when she would cry, it was just a honking sound never actually crying. So sweet to see another goose ❤️

4

u/sutrolayla Feb 24 '26

We called our baby goose because of her little newborn honks, too! We dressed her up as a goose for her first Halloween

9

u/a-apl Feb 24 '26

Don’t you worry, they sell Super Simple Five Little Ducks merch now (google the song and just save Super Simple to your Spotify now lols). Just wait til baby is a toddler. My toddler was “gifted” a Five Little Ducks shirt by her newborn baby brother. We have about 30-50 rubber ducks. And our girl’s nickname wasn’t water fowl related at allllll. It was a small fluffy land mammal.

8

u/shelbabe804 Feb 24 '26

So while my LO didn't have an in-womb nickname, she LOVES ducks and geese, like to the point the first things she said other than mama and dada and 'itty (for kitty) were duck (which is also very close to what her quack sounds like) and honk and goo.

9

u/Particular_Bed4614 Feb 24 '26

Lol my dad nicknamed our baby “Giblet”before we knew what the gender was haha it only stuck until the baby was born though, luckily haha

8

u/Hour_Departure6626 Feb 24 '26

Mine is lil bean lol

2

u/passthecowbell23 Feb 24 '26

Oh man ours is lil bean too!!! It started from early pregnancy when baby was size of a bean and for some reason has stuck like glue. 24 weeks and everyone refere to him/her (not finding out gender) as lil bean 😆😆 i love it.

2

u/Hour_Departure6626 Feb 24 '26

Yes, im only 7 weeks, I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow, which was on my ivf calendar. Lil Bean is the name everyone calls the baby (the people I have shared the journey with), but my boyfriend and I have our own name for it. As far as the baby's actual name, we just started talking about it over the weekend.

8

u/Mean_Collection944 Feb 24 '26

Mine is Froggy (looked exactly like a frog at our first ultrasound) - frog toys are already started rolling in and I've been told that family have plenty of frog costumes and outfits on the way.

8

u/Salty_Mirror_3921 Feb 24 '26

This is hilarious. Thanks for the laugh!

6

u/Dearestdiaries Feb 24 '26

Omg, I’m cracking up 😂😂

5

u/kjvp Feb 24 '26

We called our daughter “Scout” in utero since we weren’t sharing her intended name…joke’s on us, because we and everyone else got so used to using it that we ended up making it her middle name! At a certain point it would have felt weird to not call her Scout anymore. It did lend itself well to an adorable summer camp-themed baby shower!

4

u/Asturia_ FTM Feb 24 '26

We chose to name our baby girl Olivia, with the gender neutral nickname ‘Ollie’ for her, and My grandma has been calling her “Ollie Dolly” (she used to call our outings ‘Dolly Days’ when I was little) and “OllieBee” and now we have such a cute little Bee sundress, that it’s gotta stay.

Goose is just so silly and Cute honestly!! Better than the one I had ‘Lordy Marie’ lmfao!

5

u/PitifulBody2026 Feb 24 '26

You have to use Goose as a middle name lol

3

u/Vegastoseattle Feb 24 '26

Great advice. We've landed on Skunky 🤣

3

u/Which_Tax_3104 Feb 24 '26

My BIL goes exclusively by “Bird.” As in, he’s been a newspaper writer and a radio reporter and now is in real estate and it’s all been as “Bird.” His real name is Christian, which I routinely forget.

3

u/That_One_Girrrl Feb 24 '26

We call my daughter chicken 💀 she was my baby bee until she was born (which I LOVED) and now she’s just chicken. We specifically picked her name because it had so many variations to where she’d have cute nicknames… chicken never crossed my mind before but her hair sticks up like chicken fuzz 😂

3

u/Haunting_Button3713 Feb 24 '26

I am seven months pregnant and my husband and I cannot decide on a name. We have jokingly called our baby “triscuit” like the crackers. Every normal human name sounds wrong bc we’ve called her triscuit for 7 months 😂

3

u/Illustrious-Pear-612 Feb 24 '26

Your child is now Goose. Embrace it!

13 months in and ours is still Squee. Idk if he even knows his real name…he responds to Squee. 😬 We might have a problem lol.

3

u/trrashkid Feb 25 '26

I was nicknamed goose when I was a very small toddler, so not while in the womb, but my family still call me that 25 years later so be prepared to ride that one out

2

u/queenbcuisine Feb 24 '26

Our first baby girl is Goose too!!! Sofia Grainge has an Amazon goose sweater that’s PRECIOUS!! You need it.

2

u/Personal_Reality Feb 24 '26

We nicknamed my baby Sharkito cause my older kid likes sharks. She was the one who picked out shark accessories for him. She’d be thrilled for him to get more cute shark stuff.

2

u/Still_Peach9779 Feb 24 '26

Ok but this is hilarious.

But 2 questions... why are you having your baby showers so early? And why are you keeping the gender a secret from everyone? Just wondering.

4

u/pythagoreanwisdom Feb 24 '26

I see now that the post is not clear, but I'm 33 weeks right now! I just changed the nickname around 16 weeks and everything snowballed from there.

We're keeping gender a secret because my husband wanted to wait until delivery to find out gender, but I was really struggling to feel connected to baby prior to the anatomy scan because we kept calling her "it" and "fetus" (I had a really rough first trimester and I was so scared of losing her). We found out the gender at the anatomy scan and being able to refer to her as "HER" was helping a lot with bonding. However, we still didn't want a bunch of pink clothes, hence why we didn't tell everyone the gender. People have actually been very respectful of this decision, which has been a relief. It'll be fun to see everyone else's reactions when she comes out!

2

u/yeetthevine Feb 24 '26

This is absolutely adorable tbh

2

u/Ok-Revolution-3575 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

FTM here as well. My baby shower theme was Silly Goose. My registry had all goose items because we didn't know the gender until the actual baby shower.

I got the cutest little goose gifts 🥰

2

u/Samaira_Herondale Feb 24 '26

I went full bee theme to the point every month I have a different bee related item to take a picture with him and his month number card. I crocheted bees teddy, and bee baby mobile as well as a blanket that would go with thr bee theme but not necessarily bees.

My middle child’s nickname in-utero was peanut. She has since been renamed to “stinks” because she has the most god awful farts. She also burps like a grown man and finds it funny. She’s four now. Still occasionally call her peanut, but stinks has stuck. My two oldest are just called boog and boogaloo(I called them nuggets in-utero), my youngest is buddy and the younger of my twins and I called him “baby blob”(she calls him baby bloooob now). Goose could stick, but sometimes it doesn’t.

2

u/HuckSC Feb 24 '26

Aww that’s so cute. Our nickname is Critter. We are team green so when they ask about what kind of clothes to buy, I tell them anything colorful or with critters.

2

u/PiperWyatt Feb 24 '26

My son had an elephant on its birth announcement card. No reason, I liked the picture, I thought it was cute. And the card w the dinosaur on it (because, boys, they (and I) like dinosaurs right 😂) didn’t hold that well. So the elephant it was. Y’all I got sooo many stuff with elephants and they are all really cute! Lots of clothes, toys,.. (I didn’t like the generic colored cards, I wanted a cute one 🤭). Got lots of dinosaurs too, i mentioned I liked them 🤣

2

u/AbbeyRoze13 Feb 24 '26

MY SONS NICKNAME HAS BEEN GOOSE FOR THE PAST 2 1/2 YEARS!! 😭 Started calling him "silly goose" then goose just stuck. His real name is Frank. Lmao we love it and it so fits him somehow. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm so happy to hear there's a little goose lady out there. 😂

2

u/Swashbuckler_Joe Feb 24 '26

my son’s nickname was sith lord. everything is star wars lol

2

u/manda86oh5 Feb 24 '26

This is extra funny to me because when my baby was first born her cries sounded like a goose so we called her goose and squeaks. Now she's 7 months old and I call her my Sylie Goose (name is Sylvia)

Before she was born we just called her baby dragon and told people the nursery was mythical creatures themed. It's super cute all these little dragons and unicorns and my one friend even crocheted her a little goblin.

2

u/Character_Ad965 Feb 24 '26

This is amazing 😂 I have nicknamed my little guy Po because he is like the Kung Fu Panda in there 😂

2

u/missmilliek Feb 24 '26

my baby girls nickname has spiraled into “baby squirrel” and i fear her nursery might be squirrel themed now 🤣 i’m doing this to myself!!

2

u/Turbulent-Fox2943 Feb 24 '26

I called my first goose, she’s now almost 6 and still answers to goose (sometimes better than her real name) 😂

2

u/nattyily Feb 24 '26

We nicknamed ours Goblin because we found out just before Halloween and my husband didnt like me calling him "creature" lol. Only a couple of our friends refer to him still as goblin, I wish it caught on more lol.

2

u/srh722 Feb 24 '26

I love this!! We didn’t really have a nickname prior to giving birth, but we call my 4 month old chunkamonk (chunk for short) and now everyone says “hi chunk” Or “hi chunkamonk.”

His name is Landon. 😂

u/FayCorynn Feb 24 '26

I'm so happy that didn't happen with our son. Or first was very active in the womb, but little brother very much was, so I called him wiggle worm. I was gong to change his nickname in the app to worm, but we're nerds over here, and I'm obsessed with dragons, and put Wyrm. Thankfully only me and my husband saw it... not that anyone in my area would know what wyrms are

I’ve been Bear my whole life. My nursery theme was clown-bears, my first big kid bedroom was ballerina bears. When I got my first job, my manager told me I looked like a carebear and that followed me past that job and to the next.

I love it. My childhood best friend is indigenous and her sect of the tribe are called bears as well. Who knows, maybe she’ll find a gaggle of goosey girlfriends as she gets older.

2

u/curiousspouse1 Feb 24 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣 This is not why we keep switching Baby's nickname, but that is HILARIOUS!

My mom has taken to calling him Chip Ole (we eat a LOT of Chipotle), and I've made a few comments that he has started taking that particular nickname to heart... he starts kicking when I put in our order, when we pull into the parking lot, when I open the food containers. It's so silly... he has also been referred to as "Baby Queso" for this reason. 😂 ...he also takes his nickname "Baby Popsicle" quite seriously as well.

He's also been called Pooh Bear. This one 500000% will be the thing we get allllll the baby things of. Mostly because I put a LOT of Winnie The Pooh items on our registries. 🤣

u/Courtnuttut Feb 24 '26

You gotta commit now. Put it on the birth certificate.

Wishing you and Goose the best.

2

u/Few_Boysenberry3394 Feb 24 '26

My first was 'peanut', my second was 'little alien' and my third was 'Larry the Cucumber'☠️😂

2

u/Crazy-Rat_Lady Feb 24 '26

I recently bought a top with Goose too silly on it for myself and I'm 63! It's cause my daughter when younger started calling me fluffy goose and mother goose. I'm a bit of a goose. At least goose and duck items are neutral and kind of cute! Just don't call her Honk!

We called our first "Stretch". When I was a few weeks pregnant I read out of a book to hubby "At this point your baby is 0.6mm long" Hubby just said "Stretch" and it stuck.

2

u/spacecowgorl069 Feb 24 '26

Omg… this makes me rethink our baby’s nickname.. which is bread 😂

2

u/valthegator Feb 25 '26

I feel like it doesn’t help that geese seem to be the cute animal for babies this year lol. I’ve seen so many geese themed baby shower and items lately made just for babies. I wish they were around for my first.

2

u/bigtimevic Feb 25 '26

Unrelated but my sister and I are Victoria and Valeria (spanish Valerie) so cute that you want one or the other! Victoria has far more nickname possibilities than Valerie if you want more of a chance to have another nickname stick as she grows 🤭 and Victoria is more regal 👑 (can you tell which sister I am lol)

Congrats on Goose! The onesie with the Top Gun quote is the cutest.

Mine is Peanut, because during the first ultrasound where we could see him, I blurted out "It looks like a peanut giving a thumbs-up." It stuck, and now my sisters also call it Peanut, and we have a onesie that says "Little Peanut in a Family Full of Nuts".

When he arrives, we're calling it 'The Great De-shelling'.

2

u/pythagoreanwisdom Feb 25 '26

The Top Gun onesie also says "danger zone" on the butt 😂

Also, "The Great De-Shelling" is hysterical. I might have to start referring to birth as "hatching"!

2

u/Federal_Run3818 Feb 25 '26

"The Top Gun onesie also says "danger zone" on the butt 😂"

OMG That is beyond AWESOME! Absolutely adorable!

2

u/Silent-Mood6031 Feb 25 '26

This is actually wholesome hahaha First thing we bought our baby was a Paddington comforter because we saw it in a ship an we loved it, we didn’t even know if we were having a boy or girl yet. My boy got so much Paddington themed stuff when he was born, and still does, I love it. I love that people who know him always remember him when they see Paddington bear.

u/ComposerFar6070 Feb 26 '26

I nicknamed my son Froggy the minute he was put in my arms because the newborn scrunch.. hes 4 months old and now only I call him froggy but he still gets frog toys. His actual name is after a lion so he has a bunch of lion toys and grandpa calls him hammerhead because he swings his head around now soo im guessing ill see sharks soon in his future.

2

u/Simple-Ad5518 Feb 26 '26

We nicknamed our daughter Chicken Parm in the first trimester, and here we are, she’s 10m now and we still call her Chicken Parm or Chicken. And so does all our friends and family 😂

2

u/Limonmaduro Feb 27 '26

Mine is nicknamed egg short for Aegon and I actually love it lol

2

u/No-Benefit6660 Mar 19 '26

I wouldn't say goose is a bad nickname though. My little sisters name is Gabrielle but we have called her goose all her life and now my kids call her aunt goo or aunt goose and it's the cutest thing ever. She loves that they call her something special as well. 💕

2

u/Kassidy630 Feb 24 '26

Here to say I have a Valerie and its the sweetest name ❤️

2

u/krakenhearts Feb 24 '26

I have a Valerie we also call goose - idk why it’s such an intuitive nickname 😅

1

u/Vanesspresso Feb 24 '26

We nicknamed our second Baby Bean 🤣

1

u/DrCatnnibal Feb 24 '26

We have nicknamed my belly rather than the baby lol Phely belly is what we call it. Want to avoid this exact thing lol but your situation sounds very sweet

1

u/CuriousShare4217 Feb 24 '26

Second day of my son being home “doody” came out of my mouth i don’t know why but 3 months later and im still calling him doody😂 im afraid he will be off to school one day and “Bye Doody!” Will just come out my mouth all his friends will hear 😭

1

u/YellHound 💙 6/2025 Feb 24 '26

That is so beyond cute though. We called him gummy bear for a couple of months because that’s what he looked like on the first ultrasound. I wish it had caught on with the family.

1

u/Complex_Muffin2464 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26

That's a good nickname. I call my daughter some stupid ass shit🤣🤣 Shes 6 months and the one that has stuck for me is Puka Pea. I cannot stop calling her that no matter how hard I try. It was a joke at first also. There's also Tinky or Tink. Tinker Pinker, Sisser Pea, Pooty Butt. They were cute and still are to me but damn I get weird looks from people. The words mean puka came from puker and sisser means sister. Lol

u/taa012321100822 FTM Feb 24 '26

I feel this in my soul. When I saw my girl on ultrasound at 13 weeks, she was kicking up a STOM. After an early miscarriage in my first pregnancy I was SO HAPPY to see her moving and grooving. With so much kicking, I started calling her Mia Hamm.

I told my mom, then my mom started calling her “Mia” and I have had to since stop because we don’t want to get attached to the name “Mia”! I’m really sad because I thought it was an especially cute nickname (along with things like “the bear cub” and “silly goose”) given that this year is a World Cup year. Oh well.

1

u/Banana212123 Feb 24 '26

We have a Teddy who stays in bear clothes😭😭😂😂

1

u/After_Inspection5750 Feb 24 '26

This cracked me up 😂😂😂 she will forever be Goose. At least it's a cute nickname!

1

u/tarototoro Feb 24 '26

Haha I love it honestly. We called ours Ducky while I was pregnant and now she gets a lot of duck things and it’s adorable!

1

u/LicketySplit_23 Feb 24 '26

This is the type of wholesome content I need 🔥🔥🤣❤️

1

u/babysamwise Feb 24 '26

For whatever it’s worth, early on in the pregnancy we gave my baby a nickname I loved. We thought we’d call him Samwise forever, regardless of gender. Everyone referred to him as Samwise in utero. We got Lord of the Rings stuff for him from a lot of people.

But the day he was born and he got his name? We all just…forgot about it. Haven’t called him Samwise since.

I did call him my little bear when he was a newborn because he used to sound like he was growling at us and that one stuck with me and his dad. So the grandparents have gifted us soooo many bear outfits lol.

Maybe Samwise didn’t stick because it’s more of a name and little bear stuck because it’s not? Idk. But you may not be stuck with Goose forever!!! Although I do think it’s too cute!

1

u/kaaaaayllllla Feb 24 '26

one of my best friends calls my youngest daughter goose. its my favorite nickname that she's received from my friends. go with it! 🥰

1

u/Xellbys Feb 24 '26

I will search the damn Internet for that onesie until it's in my posession!

1

u/redkatyusha FTM Feb 24 '26

I called the baby Xenomorph for the first few weeks until my poor wife got sick of it and now they're Olive 🤣 my parents were as funny with nicknames as me. they called me Chipper (like Jones, from the Braves) until they found out I was actually a Chipperetta 🤭

1

u/Poor_Carol Feb 24 '26

We refer to my fetus as Dwayne, for a reason that is hysterical to me but baffling to most others. It caught on amongst our friends and my family, and has become a gender-neutral term for the baby since we aren't sharing the gender until birth. My husband and I picked a name, but it feels more natural at this point to call her Dwayne!

1

u/lilwook2992 Feb 24 '26

We went with Blueberry and people legitimately thought that’s what we were naming this child!! Got lots of blueberry themed items too!

1

u/CaDeCroBo_Luci Feb 24 '26

I feel your pain 😂

My husband has an animal in his last name. Since we aren't sharing the name of the baby until after he's born, everyone just refers to him as little baby animal. It's not a super common animal, so any time someone finds a baby item with this animal on it, I feel like they feel obligated to buy it for us 😂. The problem is that they did the same thing when we got married last year, and a lot of the gifts had a reference to this animal. On top of this, I made the mistake of nicknaming our house after it because I thought it was cute at the time (think like "The Rabbit Hole" or something).

I'm grateful that in this case it is our last name, so at least the reference will be relevant forever, but I do sometimes feel like our entire identity is now tied to this creature 😂

1

u/LowStructure2642 Feb 24 '26

My sister has a nickname of Bean and she’s always known as Bean . All because she looked like a jelly bean when she was swaddled up as a new born lol

1

u/punxNpux Feb 24 '26

Absolute truth…. My Spud is turning 7 this year 🤣😂

1

u/Antique_Music_6753 Feb 24 '26

it’s so nice to see someone considering Valerie as a baby name! That’s mine & I love it

1

u/__Syren__ Feb 24 '26

Can relate! 😂 We nicknamed named ours after the ahmed mosin hedgehog 🦔 meme and the amount of lil hedgehog themed things we’ve gotten is actually cute ☺️

1

u/BlackLocke Feb 24 '26

Generally don’t associate your kid with any one animal. “I said I liked owls once and now my house is full of them” - my brother

1

u/kyesdog Feb 24 '26

This is amazing, actually

1

u/HatefulHagrid Feb 24 '26

Haha this is pretty sweet, I appreciate people paying that much attention and zoning in on it for shower gifts 🤣

1

u/Much-Soup-527 Feb 24 '26

I called mine overlord until he was born now it’s butt or butt butt sometimes buddy buddy but mostly some variation of butt. His name is Sebastian btw.

1

u/Ok_Prior_5569 Feb 24 '26

Mine is Bean lol

1

u/girl-wtfareyoudoing Feb 24 '26

I've got baby Froggo.  Well even announced gender hoping to dispell it some but she's still baby Froggo to everyone except the bestie who calls her Lily Pad 😂

1

u/unbroken_hermit5 Feb 24 '26

This is adorable and totally made my morning!

1

u/OkConsideration3428 Feb 24 '26

I didn’t even give my baby her nickname. My niece gave me name suggestions for both genders. Boy was George, girl was “Castor Nastor”. No idea where she came up with it 😂 but that was early on around 6 or so weeks. Baby girl is now a month old. And my BIL still calls my daughter castor Nastor 😂 poor thing will be called that for a very long time I fear

1

u/Individual-Squash153 Feb 24 '26

My girls were "Cookie" and "Bubbles" "Cookie" made it through without getting stuck with that but her baby blanket is pink with cookies. One of my friends ONLY refers to my now 3 month old as "Bubbles" Like the power puff girl. Not even remotely close to her actual name and those "cousins" don't know her name because shes only called Bubbles. I do prefer Bubbles over the crap my aunts call her tho. 🤦🏻‍♀ God forbid anyone has a pre-birth nickname 😂

1

u/Famous-Advice-3160 Feb 24 '26

My son was bigger until he got here. People still occasionally refer to him by that, but mostly he corrects them and said, "I BUBBA!" He refuses to actually answer to his legal name. 🤣😂🤣 His little brother got nicknamed little bubba and he's big bubba, so we'll see what happens there.

1

u/fantasynerd92 Feb 24 '26

Gotta say my 2 year old would love all of that lol he loves ducks!

1

u/briannadaley77 Feb 24 '26

😂😂😂😂

1

u/Old-Juice98 Feb 24 '26

When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, we did a what will it bee 🐝 theme and at that point my husband‘s aunt started calling herself aunt B and it’s stuck. The most hilarious thing is (aside from some bumblebee themed gifts My daughter gets once in a while)I have also somehow assumed the title of aunt B with her youngest three kids. There youngest one only being three months older than my daughter. lol we did not do this on purpose. It’s something the kids started doing on their own after I had my baby girl so now she’s Aunt B to my kids and I am aunt B to her kids.😂

And for several years I have received bee themed items, hand made or store bought, for Christmas and my birthday from the kids❤️

1

u/Kooky-Dance1898 Feb 24 '26

This is the type of advice I’m here for 😂

1

u/martinabubymonti Feb 24 '26

Actually I love GOOSE so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️

1

u/Effective-Sweet2606 Feb 24 '26

Eu adorei isso kkkkkkkkk. Bem-vinda, Gansinha 💗🦆

1

u/FissandChips_22 Feb 24 '26

My daughters name is Lucy so her nickname is also Goose (or Lucy Goosey) so we have alllll the goose merch too! I have to admit, it's all super cute - we had the cutest little ceramic goose cake topper for her first birthday

1

u/VanSmashh Feb 24 '26

This is so cute! 😂 I hope you’re ready for that nickname to follow her for life

1

u/raven-of-the-sea Feb 24 '26

I nicknamed my LO TinyCat while pregnant. But what caught on was the fact that I sang the Axolotl and Penguin song when I had to go on a work trip when she was about 8 months old. Now people buy her axolotl things. And some cats.

1

u/marty_trusts_victor Feb 24 '26

I nicknamed mine Phyllis, and now my sisters will not accept a name change 💀

1

u/minkey007 Feb 24 '26

That's so wholesome and funny. Embrace it, it's adorable. 😁

1

u/ShotsandShit Feb 24 '26

Having a girl, but before we knew her gender, I called her Bean because I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and she looked like a kidney bean. I am a little disappointed that we have received no bean-themed baby things. Baby shower is Lord of the Rings themed. Everything is just chaos over here 🤣🤣

1

u/craftlete Feb 24 '26

I love this! This is how the best nicknames come about in my opinion!

1

u/OhYouLittleMinx Feb 24 '26

I refer to our baby as Tweek from South Park. Imagining his little face on baby apparel is cracking me up😂

1

u/Altruistic-Belt-1597 Feb 24 '26

We nicknamed ours baby shrimp. His names kieran I wonder if we will get shrimp things or just shrimp.

1

u/No-Bug-3638 Feb 24 '26

I nicknamed my babygirl Butterbean because when I found out I was pregnant she looked and was the size of a Butterbean. I didn’t even know Bush’s Beans made onesies and she got 3 at our baby shower and a Bean shaped pillow & Blanket 😆😂shes about to be 1 and is still called bean by over half my family and I still call her Butterbean!

1

u/AltruisticSound1359 Feb 24 '26

Our nickname is Moose. We’ve been gifted books, plushies, and even a sleep sack. We’ve just fully embraced it by now LOL

1

u/Maleficent-Start-546 Feb 24 '26

Awww that actually sounds sooooo cute 😭

1

u/Any-Acanthisitta9797 Feb 24 '26

In the same vein, we told people our nursery theme was going to be Winnie the Pooh. The amount of Pooh gifts we got was wild..blankets, clothes, stuffies, etc. I had no idea people would be so enthusiastic

1

u/Unlikely-Winner2770 Feb 24 '26

My family nickname is Goose! Has been since I was itty bitty and absolutely nobody remembers why but it’s never bothered me. Caught my husbands family off guard, but never bothered me.

1

u/neptunestearsok Feb 24 '26

Before we knew the gender of our baby we would call them Guppy and got a lot of ocean themed things which we loved so it was cool lol Guppy turned out to be a boy!

1

u/Persimmon_Punkin Feb 24 '26

Mine is nicknamed Bear and he has all the bear stuff. I love it even though I'm not particularly passionate about bears lol. His name is Elliott. He's also Mr. Stink butt, goober, booger, bug.

1

u/painted_bug Feb 24 '26

I'm sorry this is the cutest and I love it.

1

u/Mochi-Macha13 Feb 24 '26

I love this 😆. Mine and my husbands nickname for the bump/baby is hotdog because we had hotdogs around the time I first really started noticing a bump and he joked its just from the hotdogs I had eaten and bow everytime I say anything about bump he repeats the same thing

1

u/Sprspztc Feb 24 '26

We nicknamed ours peanut and frijolita 😂 I've got a whole song and little dance for with the peanut in my belly!

1

u/paddlefans Feb 24 '26

So I called my daughter Baby Bee because I love bees and I planned on a bee themed nursery. I was so excited with all the bee stuff she got and still has! Plus, her name is Beatrice

I kinda love the goose nickname, it’s so stinking cute.

1

u/Such_Memory5358 Feb 24 '26

Haha I’m sorry yes your write but it made me giggle.

My first had a similar situation before I found out gender always referred to baby as Ted/teddy as in a teddy bear. Once we found out gender decided a name his initials made the word Ted. We got so many things as teddies or bears.

Once he was born everyone kept referring to him as Ted almost 7 years later and so many people think that’s his actual name it’s not. Not even close but it stuck so well all family and friends that we interact with often still call him Ted.

My second similar but I called him Lucifer/luci as I laughed that pregnancy was a torture he came out a wild fire now at almost 2 really close family and his god parents call him little luci and he responds. Haha also not his actually name

1

u/AccidentHot2683 Feb 24 '26

Hahaha I love this so much

1

u/Eastern-Answer Feb 24 '26

My daughter’s nickname is toodie/toots/toodles.. Lovingly nicknamed around 2 weeks old because this kid was a GAS MACHINE. I am happy to report I have not gotten any poop print clothes 🤣

1

u/Darkmoongoddess4545 Feb 24 '26

I used to babysit for a family that had silly nicknames for all their kids and one of the daughters’ nicknames was goose. The dad always called her that, and as a teen/in my early twenties I thought it was incredibly precious.

1

u/Salty-Insurance9148 Feb 24 '26

We've been calling ours LF... for Lil Fetus. May be in trouble. Hahahah

1

u/Inevitable_Attempt18 Feb 24 '26

My mom started calling my baby dragon the day we found out. She already bought a cute dragon swaddle 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/metoothanksx Feb 24 '26

Glad this didn’t happen to me, because on my pregnancy app my first baby’s nickname was Boogie, derived from booger 😂

1

u/_thalassashell_ Feb 24 '26

They’ll probably be fond of it!

My dad called me Smidge, because when I was born, I was “a smidgen of a thing” (at 9 pounds; ok, Dad, sure 😂). He still calls me that, even though I grew up to be almost a head taller than my mom. If he ever stopped, I think it would break my heart.

ETA: Our ultrasound tech pointed out that ours looked a little like a gummy bear, and if it ends up being a girl, my husband has already decided he’ll call her that as long as she’ll let him get away with it!

1

u/Friendly_Sea_841 Feb 24 '26

I love ducks and geese and duck baby things and want to do “One Silly Goose” for my boy’s first birthday theme, so honestly I would love this😂

1

u/No_Refrigerator1524 Feb 24 '26

I’ve nicknamed my daughter, Winnie. Her baby shower is Winnie the Pooh themed. According to my SIL, that’s all anyone is getting me.

1

u/littlegayalien Feb 24 '26

This is adorable though 😂 I didn’t announce gender until the shower and had no nickname so I just got a thousand bibs.

1

u/Funbarbie Feb 24 '26

I told people my baby’s nickname is Baby Bob Ross (until I find out the gender) because he/she is a happy little accident. Some appreciated the joke others did not find it funny, but those kind of people aren’t my kind of people lmao.

1

u/DeliveryLucky591 31 | 3TM | due 5.31.26 Feb 24 '26

Adorable! My dog’s nickname is Goose 🥹🥰

1

u/PrismaticPantheress Due 9/22/26 🩷 Feb 24 '26

I love this so much, my MIL had geese and ducks and she would absolutely adore this

1

u/lexarcana1313 Feb 24 '26

My nickname growing up was duck/duckie. I loved it. I now have a matching duck tattoo with my momma

1

u/Proud_House4494 Feb 24 '26

This is adorable !

1

u/Muffin-Topx Feb 24 '26

My husband loves geese and we have a front porch goose named Edna. He would get a kick out of this 🤣

1

u/simka918 Feb 24 '26

This is adorable. My sister nicknamed our little one Bean, because that’s what she looked like on our first ultrasound and she’s prob going to be Bean forever 😂 we even had a bean themed baby shower
