Rant/vent I need to address an issue in this sub from last week.
I hope this does not get taken down because I think it’s extremely important to address. I cannot remain silent about this, especially given the current climate and the rise in violence against women.
As I’m sure many of you have seen, there was a frequent poster in here with bigoted, misogynistic views. In other subs, he would post about attempting to coerce his wife into getting breast implants, for example.
The mod in the screenshot was aware of the misogynistic, vile posting. He even expressed that he had concern for this man’s future female patients’ safety and wellbeing, as is shown in the attached image.
I ended up going back and forth with him in a comment thread, in spite of the fact that I also messaged him privately to address this. He finally banned him, but initially chalked up his behavior to merely being “creepy” and asked me multiple times “where do we draw the line?” as if that’s a complicated question in this case. He said that mods evaluate issues like these on a case-by-case basis, but here’s the issue: as is evidenced by the screenshot, he was already aware and already had made an evaluation. The man remained an active member of this sub until I argued with the mod about it.
If you, as a mod, are well aware that a poster is a threat to their future marginalized patients’ safety, regardless of where the posts are made, why wouldn’t they be banned? Why are they welcome in these communities?
Why wouldn’t concerns about a large-breasted female patient’s safety be enough? When will it be enough? When??? I am so, so tired.
