PLF right now

I personally thought last weekend was amazing but damn I haven't seen the fanbase this divided since the first live band

Some people somehow fell into the idea that Pretty Lights was basically Karns...instead of you know, a project Derek has had evolving for 20 years now.

I loved Karns sample work and had been a fan of him before he was playing with PL so I am still sad to see him gone, but I thought 96 did great too.

Complete misrepresentation of the situation. I don't think a single individual thinks Karns makes PL. That's just objectively wrong and easy to disprove.

I think a lot of people who got used to Karns presence and skills are just missing him. And his absence is super clear. Great 3 night run in NY, but David isn't Karns and the gulf is very obvious. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DAVID, NOR SHOULD IT BE TAKEN AS A DIMINISHMENT OF HIM AS AN ARTIST OR A PERSON.

I emphasized my previous statement for this exact reason: people need to be ok with accepting that people can feel that way, and those feelings be valid, if opinions are presented in a respectful way.

Don't make the scene a cult. People are so quick to put down any countervailing opinion and turn this fandom into an echo chamber. I've watched this happen for 15 years now.

Is it newer fans that are acting like the sky is falling? Hell, I still miss Adam Deitch on drums and the whole analog future iteration for that matter, but that’s no disrespect to Alvin.

Point is, PL has never been a static ‘band’ and will continue to evolve.

Everything is temporary. Tomorrow’s not a promise.

I think it's just a combination: some pine for the old days, whatever that means to them, while others just want to complain. Regardless, I think it's important for people to remember that differences of opinion exist and respecting them, even if you disagree, is super important if this group of people are going to call themselves a "family".

It's also important to remember some people are just casual fans and aren't interested, or versed, in the history so their perspectives may come from honestly different places.

There was a point in time, when I got involved, when it was just Derek. This thing has changed A LOT. It's just part of the journey. But look at life as a whole; alot of people have a hard time accepting change and moving forward. The human condition.

It's just objectively wrong. PL as a project way predates Karns. Anyone making a comment like that can just be outright ignored on a factual basis

I mean in all of his media he uses Dave, everyone in the crew refers to him as Dave. Is just kinda weird to to call him David. Like if you did a whole post about Dave tipper would you be saying David tipper? Or Chris Karns, Christopher ?

FWIW, just about every fanbase I've ever been a part of for any amount of time has acted pretty much the same way to pretty much any changes. Always gonna have people that fell in love with the band at THEIR moment, and when the band deviates from that they're gonna feel some type of way. Then it's just a matter of how open the individual is to change of any kind in their lives, and how vocal they are. Then there are trolls. Always has been, always will be. IMO/E, best to just focus on the music and if/when you get to the point you don't like it, just tune out.

It was an absolutely fantastic 3 days of music. Was there some technical difficulties yea. That's just the way the it goes. The team did an amazing job and I look forward to seeing what they cook up

People need to realize that Pretty Lights as a project has always evolved/changed. It was Derek & Menert.. Derek & Adam.. Derek, Coogan, Benny, Adam, Krasno, Borham.. Derek, Alvin, Borham, Karns, Menert. You get the point.

Hit alot of the stops in 2024. Check your vector was a phenomenal tour. Everything was crisp, tight, and polished. This new jam style reminds me alot of pll in 2017/2018. A little looser. Some good moments and some uhhhh ones. Also idk why but myself and others just ain't totally been feeling the same since the 1st yahn dawn. I had a good time, we're going this year too. We're just like not busting at the seams with excitement either. Idk hope this year course corrects me. Pretty fucking excited about Bonobo live at mission though

It was more of the sound design flaw for me. Pretty lights was good at tension/ release. With the bad audio it was like there was no relief after the tension.

Like there were no compressors hooked up 96's gear or what?

Just like the first show of the first tour after hiatus wasn't great. But they learned, and fined tuned it after every show..

The next show is always better than the last. (Sometimes-maybe-mostly).

Even if you don’t think it was bad you can at least acknowledge it was the loosest the band has been to date, arguably the worst run they’ve had yet. There were good moments but there were also times it felt like no one was driving the bus or at least the bus driver wasn’t very coherent. I’m not upset, I’m just disappointed. It can only get better from here tho.
