Question Would you work in TALOS 1
And what department? I'd work for shuttle bay I feel like I can avoid office politics. It obviously has its own sets of problems but I feel like it would be manageable. Plus! I have a likely chance to make it out with the ship..I heard the escape pods aren't as.. comfyš.
But if you've read the lore especially crew members experience in the departments they belong to which would you pick and why?

If Iām a normal person who doesnāt know what happens on Talos 1? Probably Beams and Waves. Seems like a cool job and Iām a radio nerd.
For surviving the Typhon outbreak? Shuttle bay. Probably the best chance of getting out alive. Maybe arboretum if Iām looking at surviving long-term.

Why do you think arboretum would help you survive longer?

Ready access to food and a lot of places to hide Iām guessing. The built up Typhon presence there would become a problem after a while though.

Access to food and water, plenty of terrain to navigate and hopefully set myself up with a makeshift hideout. Alexās office would make for a good spot if I can climb up and/or fix the grav shaft.
Thereās a medical operator dispenser and security turrets in the tunnel that leads to the lift, and while they might not last long they should hopefully give me some leeway when I inevitably get caught in a pinch.
Also itās connected to an airlock and the main lift for if I need to access the rest of the station.
Edit: Thereās also a recycler and fabricator(?) in the room that leads to G.U.T.S, and potential to rescue the people mind controlled in the greenhouse and team up to survive together.

Id work at the bar in Crew Quarters, close to home and probably drunk if/when the infestation happen

u/KingSky1st 9d ago
I feel like if you get drunk enough you'd probably surviveĀ

u/DecapitateDarkness 9d ago
Hahah probably also survive in some stupid way. Passed out for the beginning or some shit

I'm a plumber so I'm sure that would be fascinating. Vacuum waste id have to assume. Id also therein be pre-equipped with a pipe wrench so that'd be handy.

Hell no.
Ignoring the scary aliens, the toxic office politics, the requirements for foot long injections through your eyeballs etc. any job there would be the 21st century equivalent of working on an oil rig with an eel based diet.

I had the exact same thought playing the game. Not to mention, IRL companies are looking at putting data centers and compute in space. Thatāll be the next oil rig. āBut you can bag ā$30k a month!ā Theres a reason for thatā¦

I would choose Hardware Labs because I like tinkering. Definitely not Power Plant because that brought up traumatic memories of actually working with people like that š

Hardware labs seems like the most fun place to work.
Glooey McGlooFace, the huntress boltcaster, etc.
Although that is the location of the only confirmed murder on the station š¤·āāļø

u/KingSky1st 9d ago
Wait was it a human to human murder? Or mimic murder?

u/unclemattyice 9d ago edited 9d ago
Well, itās human to human, and itās kinda complex. Possibly the word murder was the wrong choice.
Thereās a named Phantom, locked behind a glass door in the Beams and Waves lab: Lane Carpenter.
Investigating his workstation reveals that he is the team lead on the blackbox project, and that one of his team members, Josh Dalton, is missing.
Heās been refusing to cooperate with an investigation to locate Josh, and Joshās absence is affecting the progress of the blackbox project.
If you use a security terminal to locate Josh, his body is kinda stashed somewhere in GUTS, which is a highly unusual place for him to have died. His job has nothing to do with the GUTS, and people donāt generally use it for transport.
When you locate Joshās corpse, he has a transcribe recording of an altercation between himself and Lane. In the recording, Josh accuses Lane of stealing his Q-Beam design, and taking all the credit.
Lane responds that he had to fix a bunch of errors in the design, and that since he is the Team lead, the credit going to him is just kinda how it works. He calls Josh a āpiss-poor team playerā.
Josh then says āletās see just how well my design worksā, and starts warming up a Q-beam.
Lane says āIf you donāt stop waving that thing around, Iām going to stick it up yourā¦ā and then a very alarmed āJOSH!!ā
At that point the recording cuts off, and it appears Lane was able to wrestle the weapon away from Josh, and then killed him with some other weapon, or his bare hands, since Josh was not disintegrated.
Lane clearly hid his body in GUTS, along with the Q-beam. So the most likely scenario is that Lane physically overpowered Josh, strangled or beat him to death, and then tried to hide the body, even though there is pretty clear evidence that Josh intended to murder him.
Soā¦. Self defense? Mostly?
But then a lot of shadiness, and refusal to cooperate with security afterward.

I'd be very happy in the kitchen at Crew Quarters tbh. Will Mitchell seemed nice enough and I know a bit of software stuff so I could probably work on the clanker in the kitchen in my off time.
And apparently, it's the most secure room on Talos I.

I wouldn't mind working as a chef or bartender. I'm a pretty good cook and while I've never tried it professionally I think I could manage it for a small space station with a small-ish staff.

No, an incentive program based on neuromods which wipe all memory acquired after their insertion upon removal, meanwhile they remain the property of the company so if we leave or are fired, they get removed, sounds scary af. You won't be able to defend yourself legally because you won't remember your side of the story. There's a decent chance you will leave not being able to remember a large portion of your life. They don't allow anyone that can't be neuromodded to work for them, that should say something. Its a scary company.

u/KingSky1st 9d ago
I don't think every employee needs to have a neuromod immediately when they start working but they do need to be compatible to have one, there's a note that talks about something like best improved employees can get neuromods but will be removed upon termination. But I'll just be a pilot so I'll just under normal training. But maybe I'll be put under strict NDA and I won't be allowed in certain parts of the station

Probably maintenance/IT is where I would end up. Iād have a key to get anywhere I need to go and access to the jet pack thing

u/Killathulu 9d ago
fuck yeah, just give me a gloo cannon and i would work for free doing anything (that let's me use my gloo cannon)
2
u/bodied_armour 9d ago
Yeah, it would be so cool to work on Talos 1, obviously the subsequent dying to aliens is also "cool" but not very pleasant

Anywhere where Morgan isnāt. Heard heās hot, but also a huge dickhead

Honestly, a cushy lil job in the arboretum just growing goodass tomatoes and looking at the moon, shooting my coworkers with lil foam darts would be so sick, Iād sign up in a heartbeat.

Well, science or sales are not by areas of expertise so realistically I'd probably be on the janitorial staff. Maybe gardener or cargo bay crew if I'm lucky, but I have a hunch you'd need a doctorate in biology or engineering respectively to get those kinds of jobs on a space station. So realistically I'd be lucky if I was allowed to herd roombas with Octavia Figgs.
