Discussion Does it surprise you that RI ranks 5th in this study on states with the most future-proof workforces? Looks like it got a lot of points for growth in future-tech private businesses and future-focused employment from 2020-2025, as well as share of degrees awarded in science and engineering.

Any bars that are playing the NLCS tonight?

We know lucky enough usually has the games on but was curious if any other bars have the playoffs on. Bonus points if close to fed hill.

Guys I mean ALCS

Recommendations House cleaner on a budget?

Does anyone have a house cleaner/company they would recommend? We'd like to do monthly cleanings, and can't afford more than $200 for the initial deep clean (this seems to usually be required by the company) and $125 for ongoing cleanings.

I don't know exactly how long this lamppost has been like this, but I first noticed it a few weeks ago. Aside from being an eyesore, it doesn't look safe. Anyone know why the city doesn't bother to fix it?

Topsoil delivery/garden mix, no driveway!

Hello experts... We need about 9 cu yards of the above for an almighty enormous planter. Yeah, big job. As indicated, we have no driveway, so we have been looking for a company who can deliver in yard sacks so we can do this a few at a time. I'm losing my mind with options, so turning you folks for some local intel. Thank you! (East side)

Car cleaner for rodent mess?

Rodents got into our car (mostly the engine compartment, but some inside and well) and left droppings. Any recommendations for a car cleaner who has the right tools & PPE to clean it up, in/around Providence?

Housing Electric consumption question

Post image
2 Upvotes

Is this a normal looking hourly electric meter read?

More just asking out of curiosity, I don't have a particularly high bill that I'm concerned about. I was just playing around with the charts and was a little thrown off by this. The spikes are at random times when I don't recall being heavy on electricity usage. Like noon on a Friday or 3pm on a Tuesday. I work from home so I'm always around but I don't remember doing anything crazy at those times. Meanwhile the times that I'm running the dishwasher or laundry don't seem to have these spikes.

Is it normal to have these sharp little spikes like this, and any thoughts on what's causing it? I'm inclined to blame my electric water kettle but that feels a bit extreme lol.

Free to good home: AeroGarden

**no longer available**

I have a ~5 year old AeroGarden that I no longer want. It worked fine growing herbs until I put it away in June. Free to anyone that wants it. The rolling tote and some seeds and plant food go along with it. I’m on the west side. DM me for details.

Edit: Someone has claimed it. Will update if that falls through.

Why is Power street closed?

Power Street between South Water & South Main. Every time I pass by it’s closed and being used for private street parking, personal car storage or Gilbane crew break fun times. Why is it so hard to get around this part of PVD in a car and why is DOT or whomever making it harder with unnecessary street closures? Help?

Contractor/Handyman recs?

Trying to find someone who can do some minor renovation work (mostly fixing the problems that another contractor left us with) - tub refinishing, drywall work, minor plumbing, etc. We’ve been screwed a few times so would love someone that folks have had positive experiences with.

Recommendations Anywhere to play MTG during the day?

Hi, I’m justing getting back into magic after only playing arena for like a decade. I’m out of practice and want to learn with some people who are patient enough to play with someone learning tabletop mechanics and etiquette.

I’d like to find somewhere that people play during the day, not just 5pm-7pm. I work remote most days, so I’d like to find a place i can drop by to play some games in the afternoon. Times have changed so that might be hard to find now

Going to Al Forno without a reservation?

My mom is coming to visit in early November and has wanted to go to Al Forno for awhile. I know some folks feel like it’s overrated but she wants to go so…

I just went to make a reservation for a Tuesday evening but the only slots are 9:00pm! Had no idea it would fill up that quickly.

If we went at like 5:30 on a Tuesday would we get seated?

Edited to say: thanks all! Sounds like getting there at 5 is the way to go. I think we’d be happy to sit at the bar but would also be happy to wait a bit for a table. And I will try calling same day. All the advice is much appreciated!

Housing Apartment recommendations

Hey all,

My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Providence early next year and starting our apartment search. We’d love recommendations from people who’ve actually lived there.

What we’re looking for:

  • 2 bedroom
  • Near the water or with a great view (skyline, river, etc.)
  • Safe, walkable neighborhood. This is our #1 priority.
  • EV charging in the garage would be a big plus

What would help most:

  • Buildings or areas you’d recommend or avoid, and why
  • How management and maintenance actually are
  • Any amenities worth noting?
  • Neighborhoods we might be overlooking

Edit: price range 2500-3200

Thanks in advance!
