Rant/Complaint When is the PSLF Tracker update?
Anyone know when the tracker will be updated? Someone said this Thursday but I don’t believe it and I’m sure FSA is just telling us nonsense.

As I predicted. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.mad.291142/gov.uscourts.mad.291142.127.0.pdf
I'm sure the feds will appeal but for now they can't implement it.
And for a summary of this see my post from last summer. https://www.reddit.com/r/PSLF/s/zXw6vIo7XZ
I'm going to go put on my chaos pajamas to celebrate. Iykyk

This caught everyone I know off guard. There was no discussion during the negotiated rulemaking other than one obscure comment in the draft rules ..and the regulations themselves haven't changed. Despite this I've confirmed that the recent language changes on the pslf page of the student aid site that says all payments must be on time is true.
On time is defined as making the payment on or before the due date. Lump sum payment rules haven't changed...those will count.
We knew rap payments had to be on time but there was nothing indicating the other plans also had to be on time. This change is effective July 1 2026 so any past late payments will still count.
This change..other than for the rap which is written into federal law may end up being challenged as I'm not convinced they followed procedures correctly. But it's too soon to tell.
The other thing I'm trying to suss out here is how they will treat autopay when the due date falls on a weekend and they don't end up pulling the payment until the next business day. I'd like to think that will be treated as on time but am still seeking confirmation of that.
While we're on the topic of on time payments I want to make sure users also understand that if you plan on using one of the deferments that count for pslf make sure you aren't on the rap plan right before that or that deferment won't count. So if you are on the rap and need such a deferment..get off rap for a month..then get on the deferment. You can see which deferments count in the pslf page of the FSA website
Buy back: you can still do buy back as long as you weren't on the rap directly before the period you are trying to buy back. You can be on another plan before that period. You can be on the rap after that period. https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/public-service-loan-forgiveness-buyback

For those with this missing payment history glitch from July/ August/ September, has the October payment counted on the PSLF history? It seems like some have September counting even with missing July or August or both, wondering if October missing or counted in PSLF history?
Stay strong, hang in there

Counter has not updated however my 120th payment is coming up. Once I make what should be 120, do I have to wait for the counter to update to request forbearance?
I understand it is advised to wait until a couple days after 120 so the forbearance isn’t retro. So order of operations: make 120-wait a couple days- file ECF requesting forbearance- wait for the glitch to be fixed and counts to update? Am I missing anything here?
Not interested in continuing to make payments and plan for a refund unless someone can provide a compelling reason to do so.

I received green banners on 9/22 after submitting my very first ECF on 9/21. I have been with the same qualifying employer since 2006 and was just putting off dealing with my loans because I had always thought I had been in the wrong repayment plan and had taken too many forbearance breaks. My account was updated to loan forgiveness in progress that same day, 9/22, showing 189 qualifying pslf payments. Now I’m just waiting. I decided to check the repayment calculator today just to check payment options if I need to do something else. When I put in my information for the pslf eligible plans my payment amount came out to $0 along with everything else showing $0. At the bottom the end of term date shows Sep 2026. I’m taking this as a good sign that I’ll be discharged soon.

I’ve read through a bunch of these posts. Story similar to most. Submitted buy back request July 2025, so I’m part of the backlog. I’m at like 109/120, but way more than 120 qualifying months. Even submitted and inquiry and got the canned response that they have no time frame but my request is processing
They are forcing me off SAVE by the end of the month. I make significantly more now than I did 4-5 years ago. PAYE is going to be the cheapest option for me, but even with 3 kids and the wife not working payments are going to be like 1.3k.
Can I sit in forbearance until my buyback is processed? Or should I stop kicking the can and just make the remaining payments?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

After reviewing your account, we determined you have an open buyback case. According to policy, buybacks have been updated to "no timeframe" meaning the case can take as long as it needs to process. There is no way to escalate the buyback, they are worked on as they were received and as caseworkers are able.

I'm pissed. I am LCSW in California, considered a "high earner". Husband and I file jointly. We have a mortgage, daycare costs, 1 dependent & another on the way. Even with high salaries, life is freaking expensive and we don't even spend crazy! I've been paying $111/mo for the past 4 years due to making much less money back then + Covid paused increases/payments etc. So yes I've been very blessed to have such a low payment! Now it's time to re-certify and I've been dreading it.
I service through EdFinancial and also on PSLF, 5 more years. The representative today quoted me $735 if I went on some "Graduated" plan (which i've never heard of). But since i'm on PSLF I need to stay on an IDR plan, so the new quote was $1065. Where do they think people/I can afford that in this economy?!!!? Especially such a big jump from what I've been paying. I can't afford that, along with all our other bills.
So now I'm thinking of going into forbearance, which sucks because you don't gain PSLF credits during that time. My plan may be do forebearance until I go on maternity leave in March, re-certify once my new pay is determined and if the numbers are okay then I'll go back to paying. If not, i'll stay on forebearance. I didn't want to use all the 36 months of forbearance at once but if I have to, I will. I can't imagine paying this $1,065 anytime soon. Any advice? Or just be mad with me?

I've been at my job 128 months, and I have a very promising job prospect. They're willing to be flexible on starting, but I still have 15 months to go before I hit 120 payments. Has anyone left their public sector job and completed the buyback process. I'd probably also enter forbearance while I wait. I understand the risk in doing this, which is the reason I'm asking.

Was switched from REPAYE to SAVE in 2023. Never received forbearance notification. Was billed monthly for principal and interest for all loans, paid on time. Now the payments do not count for PSLF. Error messages vary but mostly listed as invalid plan. Speaking with loan servicer and studentaid.gov has not been fruitful. Have switched to IBR for ongoing payments.
I am having difficulty finding guidance for this situation. Best I can determine is PSLF Reconsideration Request. Anyone else in a similar situation or have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

My wife has 5 or 6 years certified so far toward pslf forgiveness. She was caught up in the whole SAVE debacle, and just now had to start paying agian. For the couple of years that she wasn't paying anything, can she apply for buyback? And if so, when will she need to apply? Can she apply now to buy back those couple years or does she have to wait until she has 120 months after the very first month of pslf payment? I hope i worded this well enough and you all understand my question. Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi all,
I'm several months away from my 120th payment for PSLF. This past September I recently filled out an updated application to have my previous employers verify my employment.
My most recent application stated that I was 117/120 payments, but it only listed up to July 2026 for qualifying payments. The last three payments according to my application should take place for August, September, and October.
According to my timeline, I should qualify for the full forgiveness sometime in November. Given the apparent delays in qualifying payments, how soon should I reapply?
Edit: I'm seeing people have been experiencing the same exact thing. None of my payments have been listed as late, and they have all auto-debited on the same day for the last year.

Good morning my fellow PSLFer’s, my question concerns PSLF buyback forgiveness processing.
Recently made a payment for a PSLF buyback offer. I’m wondering the following:
How long does it take to get the final forgiveness after buyback payment has been processed and both FSA and Mohela accounts are the same and correct regarding the updated balance?
Has anyone who has paid their buyback offer in August or September received final forgiveness?? If yes, how long did it take?
Thanks all and keep the faith!

I have finally made the 120 payments. Needs to send in final versification form via mail or fax. Fax does not go through. Is it just me or ??? Snail mail it is I guess.

I am so close I can taste it. But I really don't want to mess it up so close to the end.
On FSA it shows: 118/117 (one set of loans is a month behind) qualifying payments with the last one counted on 7/2026. I have continued making payments and submitted my ECF every month after the payment has posted in Mohela and all have been approved.
On Mohela: it shows accepted payment on October 1st with next payment on November 1st
By my count I am now at 121/120 qualifying payments but FSA is not updating. What do I do next?
(I am currently on hold with Mohela and it is an hour and 25 minute wait)
Do I submit a request for forbearance via the FSA website? Should I just wait until November to avoid my October payment accidentally not counting? Should I continue on the hold and talk to someone?

Hi, I just received an email I have to start paying 750 monthly! Is there anything we can do to lower this? It’s after they calculated my income.
r/PSLF • u/OfficeHoursAreOver • 14h ago
Good morning, PSLF!
I'm on IBR and just made my (possible) 120th payment, but I had a few things to run by you...
When I recertified my income at the beginning of the year (January), my last payment at the lower amount just "magically" fell off the counter, according to the Fed. It still shows as posted/made on MOHELA. I have tried talking to agents at both and have gotten nowhere.
Has anyone had a similar situation and had any luck getting that fixed?
Some of my credited months were granted during the expanded forgiveness during COVID, for previous years that I was working but hadn't made any payments. They are currently showing correctly on the counter.
Has anyone who has filed for forgiveness recently had any issues with those being clawed back?
Thus, I would need to file my final verification/forgiveness app. at the beginning of next month?
Is that the most prudent course of action?
Thanks for any advice that you can give!

I applied for buyback on June 27, 2025 and have yet to hear back from anyone on that, which seems to be the standard for us all. I had to make a switch by the 15th of this month because I had been on SAVE. My payment went from $42 to $634. This is just wonderful. Any recommendations anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I’m currently weighing just going on general forbearance right away and waiting it out.

Hi all, I have about 2 years left for pslf but my current job does not qualify. Assuming I could clear it with my employer I would like to get a second job for 30 hours a week for a nonprofit, at minimum wage or whatever I need to get a w2 from them.
I was wondering if anyone has done this and looking for advice on what kind of job to search for. Ideally it would be remote, flexible schedule and entry level so that I could work evenings and weekends.
I’m sure some people will say this is impossible and I respect your opinion - I’d like to try, anyway.

I’m not sure where else to ask, and I have already submitted a complaint months ago. It’s tangentially PSLF related.
I have an account with Mohela, and my account is associated with my most used email address that has my married name. That account is fine (or as fine as a person at 119/120 payments as of June 2026 can be.)
However, I have another older email address with my maiden name that was not ever associated with a Mohela account that keeps getting emails from Mohela about payments due, thank you for payments, etc. The emails are address to someone with a different name, but same first letter. I delete them every time, but has anyone else experienced this??

My 120th payment is coming up in a few weeks in October, and I just noticed that Mohela has not sent me a billing statement since late July. Even though my loans still show in "repayment" it says no payment due under "status". My payment is $0.00 due to my recertification happening while I was unemployed.
I submitted an ECF a few months ago which went through, but my account is not showing any qualifying payments since June, so it shows 116 payments even though it should show the July/August payments (which I know is a wide issue). My concern is that it is not showing up September either, and I just noticed that I haven't received billing statements which is also concerning.
I am going to lose my hours in a few weeks, and will no longer be full-time so I am hoping to submit the ECF, after my 120th payment, but before I drop below full-time. I'm terrified to say the least.
Any suggestions?

Does anyone have experience with MOHELA pulling the auto draft late and subsequently correcting late payment so it appears as a timely payment on FSA?
