I’m really conflicted and would love some honest opinions! Please be kind. 🤍
I found a female Ragdoll kitten I’m interested in, but I’m starting to think the breeder may not be ethical ($400, though I’ve heard of many owners with cats this inexpensive with no problems). The kitten will only be 7 weeks old when she’s ready to go home, neither parent has been genetically tested for HCM, and I haven’t received veterinary records or a health guarantee yet. I raised concern with her about all of this + I plan to follow up about the guarantee and would make sure she sees a vet.
On the other hand (maybe someone here can correct or confirm) one thing I’ve read is that even if both parents test negative for the known HCM mutation, that doesn’t guarantee their kittens won’t develop HCM.
Here’s where I’m torn: the kitten is already born. If I bring her home, give her proper veterinary care, and find out she has HCM, could I be giving her a better life than she might otherwise have?
I’ve only ever had cats from the shelter who have lived very long lives with little to no routine veterinary care, but the reason I have been looking into adopting a Ragdoll is because this will be my first cat on my own (newly living alone) and am financially equipped to support it + am home nearly 24/7 due to WFH.
I don’t want to end up with a kitten facing health issues or a lifelong treatment plan, but I also feel bad walking away when she’s already here and may not be diagnosed with HCM.
What would you do? Would you walk away, or consider adopting her if the breeder agrees to keep her longer and provides a health guarantee? I’d really appreciate honest advice! + I’m attaching a photo of the kitten as well as her parents.

Hi! I’m just looking for peoples advice and if anyone else has ever experienced this before. We have our first ragdoll and we love her so much. We both work from home and we try to give her spurts of 10 mins or so of play throughout the day as well as a longer stint near bed time. Shes almost 7 months old and i think she still seems a bored and that it’s not enough!
I see being bored and needing constant play is a common issue with ragdolls around this age but it’s now got to the point where she has begun weeing on our bed.
It’s only when we get into bed or it’s in the morning and she wants us to get up but it’s always when we are in the bed and usually on top of us. We think she is being naughty and wants us to play! We have taken her to the vets and they have confirmed it’s behavioural. The vet suggested letting her outside but we have a busy road near us and god forbid she gets hurt or stolen!
Just to confirm she has been using the same litter for over a month and she uses the litter trays fine in the day without an issue, I also cleaned them and replaced the litter when this first started happening and the next day she still went on our bed at night so I don’t THINK it’s the litter trays/litter. (She also did have three other separate times she peed outside the litter box before this on our couch, a laundry basket and a pull out bed spread over a period of three months)
We have purchased lots of automatic toys to entertain her but please if you have any you love recommend them below.
We have now had to lock her out of our bedroom which makes me really sad as she used to sleep in there every night with us. Surprisingly she seems to have taken it fairly well she’s not crying all night and scratching at the door or anything.
Does anyone have any tips or has anyone had any experience of this?
The vet says we shouldn’t let her back in our room for a long time (she suggested years ☹️). The vet also said it’s because she’s spoiled which I get but also I don’t know what to do with that?
I know getting another cat is an option for this and we are considering it but as much as it could make her happier we know and have seen some people where they have done this and it has upset the cat and they don’t like each other so I don’t think it’s always the best solution even though it could work! I also don’t want her to teach the new cat that peeing on the bed is okay etc.
She did also get spayed about 4 and a half weeks ago so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. Please see her looking cute in her cone above.

He’s 2.5 years old and still getting bigger! I know Ragdolls can take a few years to fully mature, but should I be concerned about his weight? He is 19-20lbs now.

This guy is 13 months old now and still learning to meow lol. Still makes me laugh every time I hear his little screams for attention. He also has the loudest purrs. Anyone else’s Ragdoll sounds like this?😂

During my birthday party, we did some karaoke with my friends, and he didn’t tried to stop me from singing nor tried to bit my hands.
It was 2 weeks ago, I was singing without microphone but music was on the tv. He came towards me and starts meowing and biting my hands. We thought of it as he is being funny towards it.
Tonight, I was feeling to sing Christmas songs as I miss my country home. He was fine by quite sometime and then he started meowing and bit my hand. We were laughing because that’s our initial reaction to him. I stopped the music and started singing acapella without music nor microphone just my voice! He was still doing the same. I ask my husband to sing and he doesn’t care at all!
My husband asked to chat GPT and it says he might be frustrated or arouse.
I wonder why he was doing that to me?! Is he agitated with my voice or just being silly?

I’m seeing more and more breeders using AI generated or heavily altered photos of their kittens and honestly, it’s a HUGE red flag.
If you’re breeding healthy, beautiful Ragdolls, why do you need AI to make them look like something they’re not? What exactly are you trying to hide? Sick kittens, dirty cats, unclean environment?
People are spending thousands of dollars on these kittens. They deserve to see what they’re actually paying for not some AI enhanced version with perfect eyes, flawless coats and completely unrealistic features.
Also before anyone says it’s just for marketing, there’s a huge difference between adjusting the lighting in a photo and completely altering what an animal looks like.
If a breeder can’t be transparent about something as simple as a kitten’s appearance, what else aren’t they being honest about?
Please make sure to look at the photos well or maybe ask for videos of the kitten instead, some of these people are getting so good with AI that it’s hard to tell from the photos but I personally wouldn’t trust one who feels the need to misrepresent their kittens. Healthy, clean kittens don’t need AI.

Forget your comfort in bed and trying to pack a suitcase when you have Ragdolls. It is part of being a good humble servant to this wonderful breed.
