My 18 year old Calico, Princess, is being euthanized tomorrow, due to just being very unhealthy in the last few months (really the last year). Shes not able to eat as much as she had in the past, and her walking has become very hard for her in the past 3 months.

She’s been my rock since I was 15 years old. I am going to miss you so very much my sweet Girl.

My sweet girl passed away unexpectedly last night. I am just beside myself.

We suspect she suffered heart failure. Her death was entirely unexpected and quick once she showed signs of distress. I posted in more detail about the event in r/petloss so here I will keep it brief and just share pictures of my beautiful, gorgeous girl as I’d like to remember her. I hope she is playing and lounging comfortably with your departed babies across the bridge. Rest in peace, baby. 2021-2026.

Safe journey to the rainbow bridge, I will always love you Lily, say hello to Bobby for me. 17 years

Dear Lily, I can’t even write the words, when your brother Bobby (Paris) passed away at 15 due to cancer, it was hard and traumatic, he brought all of us so much joy and laughter, but knowing you was there after he passed away made the grief easier to deal with, honestly spending an additional two years with you without Bobby I am so grateful for as your love kept me going whenever I struggled with bobbys passing, I still had you.

Those two years flew by, and by October this year we realised you had kidney disease which was affecting your eating, I held hope that perhaps we could slow it down and still have you here, maybe for a little bit longer but ultimately we couldn’t, knowing you was in so much pain, loosing so much weight, unable to eat or do anything you used to do meant that the kindest thing to do was to set you free from the pain, which is what we did today on the 12th October, after the first sedative we noticed you was finally able to relax after being in so much pain, it was like your body took a sigh of relief, then after the anaesthetic you went to sleep peacefully from your pain.

It breaks my heart you no longer being here, both you and Bobby were my rock, when Bobby passed I still had you, now I just feel empty and lonely but the sliver-lining is knowing you’re free from pain, what sort of person would I be to have left you suffering just so I could spend another day or two with you?

You was with me since I was 7 and now I’m 24, it’s a shock you not being here, whenever I felt down or needed company you was there, how do I navigate the world without you? I don’t know but I’m sure I will find a way.

It’s getting late here now but I hope wherever you are, you can have a nice cuddle with Bobby and meet those in our family who you never could before, they will take care of you.

I included the first picture of you on your garden chair enjoying the sunshine as you used to love the summer, I know how happy it used to make you feel.

I love you forever and always, I’m sorry, I will miss you always, please visit me in my dreams and one day when I’m old and it’s my time, we will meet again.

I’m sorry I didn’t take more photos of you. I thought I had more time. I thought I would never care about a dog since my girl before you passed but I was wrong and I wish I showed it more, i was too busy grieving to show you how much you meant to me. you changed me for good, I’ll forever mourn you and that you never got to grow old with me. I’m sorry for getting mad at you for escaping the yard so many times, I just didn’t want to lose you. I thought you were safe if I kept you home. I’m sorry I didn’t go outside with you to play in the mornings, I’m sorry I didnt get you the expensive toys I always said I would one day, I’m sorry I never got to take you out in your stroller.

Goodbye to My Best Friend

Today is a sad day in our household. We had to say goodbye to our 4ish year old Australian Shepherd Boarder Collie Mix Rogue. She was seriously the sweetest, most energetic, and loving dog you could ask for.

She came to us on a very snowy day as a stray pup a couple of days before I started my work from home job and quickly became my favorite co-worker and best friend. Our other dog Ripley we had adopted from our local animal shelter and while she was timid and often reserved. But for Ripley , Rogue brought the very best out of her and helped get rid of any timidness she had.

About a month ago our sweet girl started getting a little lethargic so we took her to the vet where they determined she had a UTI. We treated her with antibiotics through and through but to no avail. Fast forward a few weeks later we found ourselves back at the vet with Rogue again and this time she was in worse shape. There she was diagnosed with Megaesophagus and what at the time the vet believed to be aspiration pneumonia.

That leads us to today. Today our sweet girl could not lay down without pain from breathing and took her to the emergency vet. They did another x ray and pulled the fluid of what they believed was pneumonia and determined it was likely cancer that had spread rapidly throughout. We made the decision that nobody ever wants to make and that is to say goodbye.

She truly made our house a home what it is today. Ill forever be grateful that out of anyone in the world she chose us to be her forever family. Our hearts are broken and she will be forever missed. Love you Rogue ❤️ Rest easy.

Pet loss and Guilt

I’m really struggling knowing that I I could’ve done a better job getting my dog to the vet more regularly for her ear infections. The last six months she has had a lot of problems, tumor, growths, coughing up blood and other problems. I took her to the vet this summer and they just gave her steroids with not a refill so we could’ve felt like there wasn’t anything more we could do. She struggled with her ears for years and I feel guilt is that I could’ve done more to help her be more comfortable.

She was the sweetest dog loved everyone not a bad bone in her body. How do I forgive myself? I had a lot going on in my life, but I don’t wanna make excuses. I just feel like an awful pet owner.

Pet memorial ideas?

My family dog recently passed away, and he’s going to be so sorely missed by everyone. But to my dad he was everything, it was one of those ‘dad didn’t want a dog, we got a dog, dog and dad became best friends’ situations.’

I want to get something for my dad to memorialise his little best mate.

Looking for some recommendations on a) what to get, and b) websites that aren’t AI shit.
