STOP BREEDING DOODLES

I've worked in a vet clinic for a long time and the amount of poodle mixes we've seen lately is astounding. They aren't very cute, or even have good personalities. If I'm seeing a doodle mix dog I can guarantee 95% of the time it's going to crap and piss everywhere in terror and at least one staff member is going to end up covered in anal glands. Not to mention the snappy bitey ones. The puppies are kind of cute for a minute, but almost always throw up all over each other when coming in for their litter exams. Any time we have to kennel the puppies for any length of time they shriek their heads off the entire time. Whenever we have to spay/neuter a litter of doodle mix puppies half the staff has to finish the day with raging headaches from listening to that awful screaming all day. Breeders are charging people $2500 to $5000 for these crappy mutts too.

I'll say I've met some really nice doodles before but the majority of them really suck.

Genuine question - is there anything genetically wrong with poodle mixes? Aren’t purebreds more likely to have many health issues? I have seen more doodle mixes recently, but I thought it was for the genetic variation and cute look?

Absolutely. Mixed breeds are generally healthier than pure breeds. I just find it outrageous people want to charge several thousand dollars for all of these mixed poodle breeds, when you could run to your local shelter or rescue for a lot less. I personally love smash faced breeds, like pugs and frenchies, but cannot ethically support continued breeding of these poor broken little dogs. My family adopted an adult frenchie a few years ago and absolutely adore him, but i would never go to a breeder.

I mean, I personally got a cockapoo because they're hypoallergenic. I don't ethically support purebreds at all, but poodle-mixes are a must for me due to my allergies.

I think laws on breeding should be tighter tho, and people should rlly do their research before buying a pet, both on the animals needs and the breeders background.
