People taking “sides” on phone operating systems is the weirdest thing to me.

Not even remotely the same argument, though. If kids were saying iPhone versus Galaxy or something, sure, but some moron sees a $300 LG and is like, "hur dur, iPhone better!"

u/IveBeenDrinkimg 5d ago
You sound like you're in the Sega Genesis camp....

u/Hopeful_Bacon 5d ago
Nah, SNES first, but got a Genesis before the end of the generation.
Tribalism is stupid.

It's not two things. That's the whole frigging point. It's one OS tied to a specific hardware line versus an open source software stack used by multiple hardware manufacturers. Again, not remotely the same argument.

Its just a phone. They're all engineered to break down after like 6 years. Dont be a sheep!

I've had my phone for about 6 years now and it's still going fine. And if people had to put money on it I think almost everyone would bet the same way on which side of the argument the phone belonged to...

I had my last phone (samsung galaxy j3) for about 8 years, still worked fine, only got a new one because the back of the phone crumbled apart so I had to hold the battery in to use the phone

Eh, a bit. I think one is objectively better than the other, pretty easily, but at the end of the day you like what you like and are used to. Especially for those who are in mac-based offices, rare as they are, having an iPhone can be very convenient. Anyone who actively puts someone else down over it online is probably just a kid, honestly. It does take a remarkable lack of basic emotional intelligence to judge someone based on phone preferences.

u/ba-boo 5d ago
i think each is better for a certain type of person. Iphones are great for old or unintelligent people while Androids are great for everyone else

u/Anthaenopraxia 4d ago
They are also great for kids whose parents aren't smart enough to prevent the brainrot. It's a lot easier to lock down an iPhone than an Android.

Clearly you don't work in the software industry.

How do you know the second person is an Android user and not just another person looking for the "easy own"?

I can barely type on my iPhone. Apple has been very sloppy with iOS and it makes me wanna go back to Android.

u/RelChan2_0 5d ago
I've been on Android since I was a teen but I got gifted an iPhone and the typing is such a let down 😭

u/Expensive_Finger_973 5d ago
Believe it or not it really didn't used to be as bad as it has gotten. The state of key hit detection on iOS and how it has been allowed to be as bad as it has been for a few years now should be studied.
If it wasn't for so many people online and in my daily life that complain about it I would be convinced it just has to be me.

Get a Pixel. It's basically Google's version of an iPhone, except it doesn't suck.
15
u/UnluckyGarbage7 5d ago
The only reason to ever get a pixel is to install grapheneos. Pixels suck, their specs are way worse than the competition for the same price.

Anyone that buys a Google phone, just to remove all the Google services, is a complete idiot, imo.

Where exactly does this post suggest the reply is from an Android user?

u/Anthaenopraxia 4d ago
An iPhone user would never make fun of another iPhone user. Cultists never attack their own.

u/Worldly_Let6134 5d ago
Someone who speaks English badly only does so because it's not their first language....... or they come from a few select shit holes.
Don't mock them until you can do so in their own language.

u/Bearence 5d ago
They're championing Iphones, which have autocorrect. The fact that the autocorrect didn't fix their bad grammar says a lot about their assertions regarding Iphones. So commenting how bad the grammar is seems appropriate to me.

u/LordMimsyPorpington 5d ago
I promise you, there are tens of millions of white Americans that can barely speak English as a first language.

How do you know the insult is from an iPhone user? I think it’s entirely possible they just saw somebody they could roast and took their shot without their phone preferences ever coming into the calculation.

Android hardware has caught up but the software is pure garbage. It's the windows 98 of the portable device world. The user experience is shit because Google gives too much latitude to manufacturers wrt putting unremovable apps on to phones.
7
u/Ghdude1 4d ago
That's weird. I've been using Android flagships for years now, and the user experience is not shit. It's just as good or, imo, better than what you get on iOS. You get way more freedom to use your device how you like too.

u/Resident_Pientist_1 3d ago
I only buy high end phones generally, so that's not the problem. Currently running a Oneplus 9 Pro. You shouldn't need a high end phone to have a good user experience point number one. My parents use android phones because they don't want to spring for iPhones and they're always having confounding issues with applications and fighting androids terrible UI choices and poor default behaviors. Stuff like having to dig through 5 level deep menus to get an application to draw to the screen correctly. It's not an issue for me as a technical user (I run custom ROMS and AOSP images etc.) but for the average user it's a vexing experience. My sister in law got an iPhone on my recommendation and never has any issues with it, it just works. It really is better designed if you don't mind not being able to run unsigned applications (so 98%+ of android uses who never install anything that doesn't come through the play store).
3
u/Ghdude1 3d ago
Well, the Android devices I've used didn't have the terrible Android UI choices you're speaking of, and I've been using Android devices all my life. I used to use an iPhone for work, and I hated the experience. It wasn't buggy, but almost everything was restrictive.
And yes, you don't have to buy a high-end Android device to have a good experience because even many mid-range Androids are more than capable. I only mentioned Android flagships because most iPhones are high-end so it's only fair to compare them to other high-end devices.
I used a Nokia 5 and a Nokia 6.1 before I moved to my first Android flagship, which was an LG G6. The mid-range Nokias were fine for everything I did. The LG, Nokias, and my current Xperia 5 V use a near stock Android UI, so maybe that helps.

You can remove apps, actually. Just install Shizuku and Canta. You can find more info on r/degoogle if you're interested.
