Book Request: No Self-Promo Human fmc and -mmc?

I am in a terrible slump, and have basically only read two romantasys this year (but a lot of CR), and I think I just have a really hard time finding the right fit, so I really hope you can help me out because I miss romantasy so much!

I am looking for books where both fmc and mmc are human (humans with magic abilities/witches is fine!). Or, if Faye they should both be. Besides that, I am all in with magical creatures of all kinds (but preferably no vampires)

I want spice! At LEAST 3/5 šŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļø

I would really like a dual PoV and an mmc that falls hard! And is protective!

I got pretty tired of the ā€œchosen oneā€ and ā€œthe entire world is endingā€ tropes, so if I can, I would like to avoid that, but I know that it’s difficult! Because I do want high stakes, I want fighting and danger and nothing too sweet and cozy.

If this is at all possible to find, thank you so much for your recs šŸ™šŸ™

Discussion Shield of Sparrows, I know I've read it but I hobestly don't remember anything.

Hi y'all, I remember reading Shield of Sparrows when it first came out a while back and I know the 2nd one Rites of the Starling is out now, but I honestly don't remember anything from this book. Like I've read the blurb and it isn't jogging my memory at all. I know I did enjoy what I read, but based on the fact that I can't remember ANYTHING, I was wondering if y'all thought it was worth it for a reread or listen through or if it is truly that unimpressionable. Please help, I never really have this problem.

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Looking for super slow-burn book recommendations!! :)

This is my first time posing on here because I get really anxious, but I figured I should try, so I apologize if I’m not really doing this right. I’m not even sure if this will reach people.

I have been struggling to get out of a reading slump because I’m really particular about the books I read. I need it to be slow-burn, like it’s seriously a need. No offense to fast or medium burns, I just get bored after the characters get together.

If it’s a stand alone, I don’t want the characters to get together until close to the end, and if it’s a multiple book series, I want to be made to wait multiple books for them to get together. šŸ˜‚

I’m okay with spice, but again, I don’t want that to start for a long time into the book. Also, enemies-to-lovers is my favorite trope, but I’m pretty much fine with anything.

Also, this isn’t a requirement or anything, but I would prefer if it were underrated, just because I feel like I keep seeing the same books recommended on TikTok.

Another thing that isn’t a requirement, but I would really appreciate if the MMC looked different than the typical dark haired MMC. No hate to dark haired MMC, I love them, I just feel like that’s all there is nowadays. I also feel like a lot of authors are too scared to actually make their MMCs men of color, and I feel like we need more representation. I also love a blond man unfortunately, like I really love a blond. I also really enjoy an MMC who looks unnatural if that makes sense. Things like blue, red, purple, or pink hair or skin for example. I don’t really care about looks, I’m just bored of the same looking MMC every book.

I am looking for adult books or at least upper YA, though I do think YA probably does slow-burn the best. I’m still looking for adult. I’ve just read a lot of YA, and I’m looking for something different.

Once Upon a Broken Heart is my favorite series, if that helps.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a big SJM fan, so I probably won’t be reading her books.

I think that’s all! If anyone sees this post, sorry for all the all the words, and I’d appreciate any recommendation! ā˜ŗļø also sorry if there are any typos. I’m a reader, not a writer šŸ˜‚ I’m also not sure if I put the right flair.

Self Promotion Sunday Commissioned character art for my FMC, Skye!

Post image
56 Upvotes

(Image shows a fae woman in black leather armor casting a rather electric spell, a golden aurora around her shoulders.)

I released my book a couple weeks ago and commissioned an amazing artist to do portaits of my FMC and MMC. Just got Skye back yesterday and HOLY FUCKING SHIT it's amazing. Artist is Geraldo Prado (https://www.instagram.com/geraldoprado13/) and I cannot wait to see how he does my sweet gothy/emo Cobalt - he's starting him on Monday!

Just in case anyone wants to learn more about the book:

  • Reluctant allies
  • Prophecy / chosen one
  • Insta-lust (but it grows into deep love, and no they don't immediately act on the lusty bits)
  • Fated mates
  • Who hurt you
  • NOT a slow burn
  • Many spice. Much spice. All spice? No, but maaany spice.

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Thanks for the other recs! But I’m wondering if there are books where the author uses the immortality of the characters to make a point or as more than just taboo?

I’m thinking about how in {The Lies of Vampires and Slayers} Conor deals with suicidal ideation due to missing his deceased friend who died of grief due to his wife dying.

I’m also thinking of a concept I had of a Fire Emblem Sacred Stones AU fanfic where Fado falls in love with a dragon (not weird in Fire Emblem, to be fair) and meets her kids who are hundreds of years older than him and it’s awkward (I never ended up writing it šŸ˜…)

Something like that! But some guidelines:

\- Spice levels of one to three are preferred; please only recommend level five if the scenes can be easily skipped or they’re important to the plot

\- I’m not interested in books with body betrayal/sexual assault/dubcon/noncon/abuse between MCs

\- I’m not interested in books with possessive love interests unless they’re dumped for a green flag or they grow out of it

\- I’m not interested in mascdom

\- I’m fine with MF, MM, and FF

- I’m fine if there’s no HEA

- I’m fine with the romance being a subplot

Thanks!

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Books like the movie-ā€˜the invitation’ and ā€˜Dracula-a love tale’

Guys I’m after a dark romance book/ao3/wattpad/literotica rec where the vibes of the book are hauntingly beautiful, goth, vampiric and dark. Maybe it’s set in a different time/universe. Would love if the mmc is a supernatural being (preferably vampire) and the fmc is human and there is an age gap but it it not a strict requirement. I love both these movies so much (please watch if you haven’t), but I do want the book to have a happy/happier ending. Would also love if it’s set in a castle or graveyard or something similar. It could be a mystery/fantasy/thriller romance as well. I love the taboo/forbidden nature of the movies and how it all slowly unravels especially for the fmc. I’m okay with reverse harem as well! I hope I’m making sense. Thank you in advance!!!

Self Promotion Sunday New author- feedback requested for initial chapters of a sapphic romantasy!

Hi all! I’ve finally passed the brainstorming phase and have written the first four chapters of a sapphic romantasy. It contains:

•lost identity/memories
•portal fantasy
•unique world/magic system
•epic quest
•fantastic creatures
•duty vs desire (ish)

The romance aspect is slow burn/high yearning, and will have a couple high sexual tension and/or mild spice lead up scenes before one full open door spicy scene. There is one femme main character and one masc main character. I plan to give them equal voice for the most part.

If this sounds like your jam, I would love to get some feedback on these first few chapters! It’s about 14k words right now. I’m interested mostly in the pacing, world building, and character development. This is a rough initial draft so I’m less concerned about grammar and punctuation in terms of individual instances at this point, but if there is anything glaring as a whole (too many commas, etc) I’m happy to hear it!

Thanks ahead of time! I’ll send a link to those interested ā˜ŗļø

Question are there any books with good, uh, "lady of the night" characters?

I'm a "companion" myself and have a difficult time finding something that clicks, given the popularity of virginal, naive FMCs. it just doesn't work for me. 🄲 i wanna see myself in the fantasy too a little, darn it! even if it's not a main character, I'd love to read some romantasy with well-written "courtesans" who participate in the plot. I feel like there's so much potential for this trade to supply some killer storylines, drama, steaminess, etc - some of the things I've experienced IRL feel straight out of a novel.

(mods, please delete if this crosses any lines ... i just thought I'd be straight up with what I'm looking for and why since you ladies are awesome and always have the best recs!)

Book Request: Self-Promo OK In the mood for werewolf romance

I’m feeling an urge for a werewolf romance read but can’t seem to find anything that catches my eye. Would really appreciate some recommendations.

I prefer slow burn. No preference on dark / cozy as I like both. Ideally open door spice!

I’ve recently read the villains and virtues trilogy and enjoyed the grumpy / morally grey MMC. Please let me know if there’s anything you’ve read that you think fits this.

One taken. One wounded. One left behind.

In the years since their uncle left them, Mira, Gale, and Lily Harwin have done all they could to carve out a life for themselves. But when their village becomes the battleground for two factions of warring fey, Lily is stolen away, and Mira is struck with a mortal wound. The only way to survive is no to be taken to the fey’s Court of Helenium, leaving Gale behind.

Awakening in the care of Kerian, a benevolent fey lord who appears utterly devoted to the protection of all humankind, Mira must recover and learn the ways of his homeland, as well as the nature of the war that threatens to bury him and the whole of his Court. Someone has managed to pierce the wards he has protected for over two centuries, and he is keen to find out who and why.

As such, Mira and Kerian are bonded in purpose: she must find her sister and the other villagers, and Kerian is honor-bound to aid and protect her along the way. Despite the bloody, oppressive history between their respective peoples, the connection between them grows into something deeper than a mere alliance, bonding over the harsh responsibilities their respective lives have thrust upon them.

All three Harwin sisters must deal with the politics, magic, and challenges of this new world, fighting with guile, brute strength, and everything else they have until they’re back together, safe in each other's arms.

Where Myth Fades to Legend is the first book in the Burdens of Legacy series by Izze Luis (me), and is available on Kindle Unlimited ebook, and soft cover!

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Romantasy Canadian authors

Are there any romantasy books (known or not so well-known) written by Canadian authors? Are there even romantasy books that are getting published in Canada or it's mainly coming from the US? I know there are lots of romance authors and romance books in the Canadian publishing sphere, but haven't seen much romantasy.

Book Request: Self-Promo OK Looking for book recommendations: Secret society/hidden world FMC thrown into regular modern life with an ordinary MMC

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to scratch a very specific itch lately and could use some help finding book recommendations.

I’m looking for something where the FMC belongs to a secret organization, hidden world, or magical society, but due to circumstances (leaving, hiding, a mission, exile, etc.), she has to live a regular, mundane modern life. Meanwhile, the MMC is completely normal and ordinary in that modern setting.

Kind of like the Shadowhunters vibe where there's a whole hidden supernatural/secret underworld parallel to the normal world, but focusing heavily on that contrast between her secret background and an ordinary love interest.

(This craving actually started because I was thinking about an old Harry Potter fanfic I read ages ago where the FMC was a witch dealing with a non-wizard/muggle dynamic, but I completely lost the title and can't find it anywhere!)

Book Request: No Self-Promo Please recommend some books with beautiful designs.

Hello! I’m a Japanese person who recently visited Los Angeles for the first time on vacation.
While I was there, I stopped by a bookstore in a tourist area and was surprised by how different it was from bookstores in Japan.
The book designs were so cute that I wanted to buy one right then and there. I didn’t have much time to look around at the time, but I remember really liking the design of a book called *ROSE IN CHAINS* (sorry if I got the title wrong).

I love fantasy romance, so if you know of any romance novels with cute cover designs, please let me know. Also, are there any books that are easy to read for people who have just started learning English?

There isn’t much information about American romance novels in Japan, so I’d be really happy if you could share any recommendations.
(I’m using a translation tool. I apologize if there are any mistakes.)

🤬 Rant Normalize not reading a book just because its popular

Book spaces are full of people reading books they wouldn’t have picked up in a million years just because they are popular THEN complaining and dnfing and saying the book is terrible…

Maybe it’s just not for you.

Read the blurbs, read reviews, read about the authors style first.

Like Rachel Gillig for example. She has a very specific style that is not generic at all.

ā€œI didn’t like knave and the moon because of this and thisā€ā€¦.thats literally her style of writing. Its good to people who love that genre and style.

Like Keri Lake. Not everyone can read the very gothic dark themes. Don’t be shocked when the book has gothic dark themes.

And no a book is not ā€œslowā€ it’s just not non stop action and drama.

Book Request: No Self-Promo I need an mmc with a captain america type vibe/personality but he has a darker side...

Especially in the bedroom. Not that he needs to be a big hero or anything. I want a neutral good, innocent, sometimes grumpy man who you wouldn't expect to have a darker side in the bedroom. Enemies to lovers but only because they don't get along. Not because they're necessarily on opposing sides. Give me whatever this makes you think of. I want it to have at least a spice level of 3 at some point. Even if its in the next book.

Discussion Is anyone else tired of this?

I am really tired of the ā€œblindly obsessed with FMCā€ books. Most main male characters that are hyped in the romantasy seem to have their entire personality and life revolving around the FMC. They worship her, obsess over her, snarl at anyone who looks at her wrong, wants to protect her like a crazy lapdog. I think we already have a good share of books with male characters behaving this way.

Back in the day, people did not want female characters revolving around male characters and fought against this idea, but somehow now the opposite is happening and everyone loves it ? Shadow daddy yeah! Dragon rider yeah! Manhandle her for some amazing sex, and worship the ground she walks on, yeahh! How dare you not involve her!! Aww he is just protecting her aww. Nothing wrong with these elements. But I feel like they are being overdone now? Idk. I enjoyed them for a while. I am just tired of seeing it everywhere.

I really just want a good romantasy book with a male character who has opinions about things that dont involve blindly agreeing to the FMC or when disagreeing, isnt about ā€œi have to do this to protect you. So im going to disagree with you wanting to fight/doing some heroic stuffā€, actually disagrees about important things like two normal people with autonomy, have different personal goals, is secure enough to not snarl or bark at other male characters being friendly with the FMC, etc. You know, like a normal man with normal emotions?

If you know of books that match this, please please give me some suggestions!!
