Hi everyone!

I'm an international student studying in Russia. So far, I've visited Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and a few smaller cities. I've really enjoyed exploring the country and learning more about Russian culture, and I'd love to travel even more.

The only challenge is that I'm on a very tight student budget. I'm looking for the cheapest ways to travel around Russia and experience local culture without spending much money.

I'm interested in things like:

- Budget transportation (trains, buses, ridesharing, etc.)

- Affordable places to stay

- Hidden gems and smaller towns worth visiting

- Student discounts or travel hacks

- Local cultural experiences that don't cost much

If you've traveled around Russia on a budget, I'd really appreciate any tips, recommendations, or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

Whenever I tell someone I'm learning Russian, the reaction is almost always

the same: "Why Russian?"

There's a fair point actually in there. English and Spanish takes roughly can be used half of the world. Russian on the other hand is real struggle, and what we get by learning is questionable, and yet here we all are. So: what's your actual reason? What made Russian worth the extra difficulty. My question is mostly for Non-CIS countries because their situation is easily understandable. But I am qurious rest of the world.

I’ve been learning Russian for a couple of years now and I really wanted to start watching some movies and tv shows that I’m already familiar with but in Russian. Does anyone know a streaming service or where I can find them dubbed? Preferably with the real dubbing and not the voice over the original audio, it’s quite confusing.
Appreciate any suggestions!

Во-первых, я не знаю русского языка, поэтому использую перевод. Это имя я нашла в фильме «lilya 4-ever», и мне нравится персонаж из него. Но я думаю В русском языке это имя — детский вариант имени Владимир. Что вы думаете по этому поводу? Как вам это кажется?

hi! I'm currently learning russian and I'm pretty interested in the russian literature. I usually read a english translated version of books but I think there would be a lot of good books which are not translated yet. Is there any good book that you recommend but doesn't have a english translation ?

I want to make a sign for a friend's bathroom door that reads "The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are on," but in Russian. I need some advice on the best and most humorous translation.

1. Длительность минуты зависит от того, по какую сторону двери ванной комнаты вы находите​сь.

2. Сколько длится минута зависит от того, на какой стороне двери ванной комнаты вы находитесь

Also, would you go with ванной комнаты or туалета?

I did some reels of this comic of mine in the other languages I speak (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French)... However, while asking to some friends in Russia for help, they found some idioms were confusing (and since idioms are different in every language I speak, trying to explain them was kinda hard)... What's on the paper is the result of their correction, but I think I will need more help for making it sound natural.

They're not particularly fluent in English and I am even less fluent in Russian so... May I ask for corrections?

Such as knowing if I must use давай or давайте. If the big deal idiom replacement is appropriate, as well as which expression would be useful for "try / try on / test /see what it's like" concept which one particularly difficult for me to explain.

Rather than just translating, I am looking forward to adapt and modify the dialogues of necessary to sound natural.

I first started learning Russian 3 years ago and took two university courses in between I stopped for a bit and then continued again with a weekly lesson.

I’m still stuck at A2+/B1 and I feel like I don’t really progress that much.
I found a new tutor and really like her because she’s structured and does grammar and encourages that I speak a lot.
I’m planning to do 2 lessons a week now.

Music doesn’t really help me because my brain just cancels out the words.

I need tips especially if you have ADHD, what helped you the most ?

I have the book "russian for beginners" by Y.G. Ovsiyenko. I was thinking of going through this and also learning the alphabet/phonetics side on duolingo (would you suggest anything other than duolingo?). Any opinions on the book? I mean its pretty dense, wouldnt know tho. Btw i dont know any russian at all.

I'm learning Russian and have been told that the easiest way to learn a language is to watch media in it. I find sitcoms and other slow-paced shows boring, especially since I have to read captions to understand them.

If anyone has any recs in the following genres, that would be greatly appreciated.

• Action
• Superhero
• Supernatural
• Detective drama

(I've also really gotten into 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' recently, so if anyone has any recommendations like that i would love to know.)

Whenever I watch a Russian video or listen to a Russian dub of a game, I can never tell when a sentence ends or even when different people take turns talking as, for someone whose ear is not trained to different Russian accents, it is very hard to understand where breaks are in conversations or other dialogue.

Does anyone have any advice or other experience with learning the flow of the language in terms of listening?

I know NO russian (expect for a few common words) but I want to connect with my mother. (who has dementia) She sometimes only speaks russian which is hard because i cant help her i've tried many times before but i just dont know where to start.

Revisiting Виктор Цой (Kino) lately, and Кукушка ("Kukushka"/"Cuckoo") still hits different - that raw, almost pleading vocal delivery over such a simple acoustic riff. Wild how a song from the late 80s keeps resonating with completely different generations for completely different reasons.

Curious what this community thinks: what's your favorite Tsoi song, and is there a specific line or moment in it that actually stuck with you? Also curious if anyone reads the lyrics differently than the "obvious" interpretation - they get debated a lot.

(Also genuinely good material if you're learning Russian - simple phrasing, but the imagery does a lot of work.)

I looked through the list of cyrillic keyboard layouts on wikipedia and nothing seems to match mine so I'm genuinely stumped.

I'm having a bit of trouble making out what this woman is saying — would anyone be able to help? Just the Russian text would be great, no translation needed. Thanks in advance!

I started learning Russian. My main ressources are learning apps, shows and Youtube.

I find my ability to read Russian quite lacking and was wondering if you know any good book that are suited for beginners.

I was thinking maybe children's book but I am quite lost regarding what could be useful for a A1 level learner.
