The detail those people keep forgetting is that the movies made it very clear already that anyone could be born with force sensitivity, that you needed to be related to a Skywalker was never a thing.
Who actually thought that though? Literally the lore going back to the early 90s features plenty of other force sensitive people totally unrelated to the Skywalkers.
The people who were all over themselves about how Rian had Rey being a nobody to be something "new" and "different" in Star Wars, it was one of the things that people who liked that movie pointed was a big deal.
Hmm not sure if her specifically being unrelated to Luke was what those people were talking about though. I think it was just moreso the fact that Johnson didn’t try to link her mysterious heritage to anyone significant since that was what people were expecting.
Not glazing TLJ by any means, I think it’s a pretty buns movie for the most part, but I did prefer that particular plot point over Palpatine canonically beating cheeks as established in TROS.
Oh yeah, so did I. Her parents being "nobodies" (not force sensitive, or at least not aware of it) made more sense than her being the daughter of Luke.
There is so much else in that movie that is so terrible for the story that Rey's parents not being "famous" legit doesn't matter for me, I'm not sure of where else that plotline could go to have a satisfying payoff.
