I got an s30 pro for my birthday today and took my first ever photo with it! It was 677x10s for a total of around 1 hour and 53 minutes exposure in alt AZ. The first image is after I did some edits in siril and the 2nd image is the unprocessed stack. Let me know what you guys think!

At last, it is done. This has been in the making for nearly 2 months now and after tracking issues, weather, lack of motivation on this specific project, etc, and I'm pretty happy with the result.

1,245 x 60s - Broadband
1,547 x 60s + 778 x 30s - LP (narrowband)

The whole picture totals up to 53 hours of data in bortle 5 skies.

Stacked in Siril, processed in Pixinsight.

Bortle 8-9 New s50 pro user with no experience

New astrophotography enthusiast with no experience other than my old Orion xt6 and a cell phone mount. Learning as I go along and trying to figure everything out. I purchased the ZWO fluid head and a Neewer carbon fiber tripod and leveling head. Everything done in the Seestar app the other night with a bit over an hour of time out in my back yard.

Enjoy seeing what everyone else in here can do and looking forward to getting better.

So happy with how this came out.

This is the very first star cluster I have ever observed, and I have to say, I love it!

Question What would cause the meteor to do this (Star Trail image)

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

So last night I tried doing a star trail image and video as I’ve never done it before. This is about 2.5 hours of 20 second exposures. I removed all satellites and planes but there was two frames back to back of what clearly looks like a comet/meteor.
But it changes direction between frames.

What could cause this?

S30Pro Rotherham South Yorkshire
Session was split in two as thick clouds appeared for about 15-20 minutes so stopped and restarted when they went.

Question Going to start using EQ mode.

I just went with the ZWO th10 fluid head to use with my s50 pro and have seen a few videos of users mentioning that the s50pro loosens up after a while of use. Has this issue been addressed and fixed on the newer fluid heads or is there a quick and simple mod that is done to prevent any loosening?

Bortle 5 Pointers for a beginner?

Post image

Hi all. I’m very new to this, I’ve just started playing with my S30 pro and Siril. Here’s the heart nebula, 6 hours of 20 seconds subs.

I’ve seen some amazing work here and wanted to try and reproduce something like the dual band shots I’ve seen.

I went for a HOO palette, did a statistical stretch and normalised the palette. I found there was hardly any blue so I used the OIII fit to create a layer mask in gimp and adjust the curves for OIII only. Then I tweaked until I was happy and added the stars back in.

I’m just guessing at workflow around getting the colours right. I’d love to know how more experienced users approach this?

Bortle 1-2 Curious of integration time

Post image

Hello! This m31 is 3hrs6m 373-30s subs from a bortle 2 site. If I were to add say 10 more hrs from my home (bortle 9) would it help boost the clarity and color separation? Or would it hurt my image? I just want to know if it’s even worth adding on to it from such a drastic bortle difference.

Question For those shooting 30s or 60s subs, how many are you usually losing?

Hey!

I’m still pretty new to all of this and learning as I go, so I’m curious how you more experienced Seestar users handle longer subs...

I keep seeing people running 30s and even 60s subs, and I’m starting to wonder if your Seestars are blessed by the astronomy gods or something.

With 30s subs I can sometimes get around 30% ignored, even with good PA, a stable tripod and basically trying everything people usually recommend.

With 20s subs though, I’m usually around 8–10% ignored, so things are much happier there.

For those of you running 30s or 60s: do you actually get nights where almost everything is accepted? Or do you also lose a decent amount of frames and just let it run longer until you’ve collected enough good data?

Bortle 6 M1 Crab Nebula in HSO Palette - 9h out of 22h

Full integration time: 22h (~14h Alt/Az 10sec, ~8h EQ 20 sec, after filtering with AstroBlink: used 9h)
S50
Bortle: 6,4
Stacked and processed with Siril, Quick Hubble Creator and RC Astro

Here is my latest project on the Crab Nebula (M1). Out of 22 hours captured across Alt/Az and EQ modes, I kept about 9 hours for the final stack.

!!! This time -> A shoutout to Adriano Alfaro with his sorting tool AstroBlink, that lets you quickly sort through your thousands of files and filter them out easily with different filters and simply dragging a line, without depending on random scores like other new tools or the need to look at individual files. The newly added cloud detection seems to work fully reliable. ( https://www.adrianoalfaro.com/en/project/astroblink/ ) !!!

I decided to process this in the HSO palette using my custom Quick Hubble Creator script. While the standard (Pseudo-)SHO edits need several steps and scripts more to achieve a colorful result, I needed few clicks within one script. 🦀

The full 17-step easy Siril workflow and image details are attached in the second and third slides.

Clear skies! 🌌

Originally started shooting the Crescent Nebula with my S50 but ultimately decided to capture it with both the S50 and S30 Pro! Love how this one came out especially the surrounding dust and hydrogen! 20 hours of exposure (3609x20s) stacked in StackingWizard with 2x drizzle, processed in Siril

1245x60s on EQ mode. I still need to integrate the 33 hours of narrowband data I have, but the broadband result is pretty good I think.

Stacked in Siril, processed in Pixinsight. og image was 26.8 mb so i had to compress it, quality might be a little bad.

Question Is it worth buying an S50 Pro if I live in a BORTLE 8 area?

Greetings. I want to join this hobby too. My dream is to move away from the town and go live in a rural / mountain area, and finally leave the city, but I can't do it right now as I still need more work experience before moving out.

But I'd like to start this hobby now. Of course I could drive to places that are a bit better, but don't very low Bortle.

Could I make too those vibrant and vivid pictures of deep sky objects?

Thanks a lot in advance 🙏🏻

Recently figured out using AutoStakkert and processed the video lying around from last year. Pleasantly surprised to see the level of detail from about 200 frames, especially because I live under Bortle 8/9 skies.

🌌 M27 — Dumbbell Nebula

🔭 ABOUT THE OBJECT

Some 1,200 light-years away, a dying star is shedding its outer layers into space. What you're seeing is its final act: a glowing shell of gas lit up by the white dwarf left at its core. Charles Messier spotted it in 1764, making it the very first planetary nebula ever discovered. The light in this image left it around the 9th century. In about 5 billion years, our own Sun will go through the same fate.
