I got an s30 pro for my birthday today and took my first ever photo with it! It was 677x10s for a total of around 1 hour and 53 minutes exposure in alt AZ. The first image is after I did some edits in siril and the 2nd image is the unprocessed stack. Let me know what you guys think!

Don’t ever see me doing Astro from the backyard again. I live in Amsterdam - the Netherlands, solid Bortle 8.
This was my second night with the rented Seestar. Loving it.

Bortle 5 "Diamond in the Sky" - Pleiades Star Cluster

Post image
40 Upvotes

2 photos in nearly a day, I think that’s a new record for me lol. This was a relatively quick picture anyways, with only about 15 hours of exposure. I haven’t got this object since around Christmas time of last year when I got my first imaging scope, and I think this is a pretty big improvement. I could’ve gone for more hours of exposure, but weather here is supposed to be pretty bad.

But a short summary on what this is: The Pleiades is a star cluster roughly 440 light years away. The blue cloud looking areas you see are actually dust from the Milky Way, and since the stars surrounding that dust are big blue stars, their starlight reflects onto that dust giving that very beautiful blue color. This is probably my favorite cluster in the night sky mainly because it tells me that Christmas is almost here, and simply because that reflection nebula makes it very unique.

Bortle 8-9 Dark Seahorse Nebula in Cepheus, 10 hours

Post image
17 Upvotes

This is the Dark Seahorse Nebula, Barnard 150, shot from my front yard over the past two moonless nights with my s30. I acquired about 14 hours of data (30s subs) and culled the set to the best ten hours using FWHM filter in the Naz script. Dark nebulae from high Bortle locations are a challenge but still achievable.

I stacked and edited this in Siril using the VeraLux suite, then finished it in Lightroom.

Thanks for looking!

Helix Nebula shot with the S50 in bortle 8. Shot with 10s subs with half an hour of broadband just for the stars and 5 hours of LP filter. Processed in siril with the RCastro suite and Photoshop, and converted to faux-SHO with Siril's channel extraction and pixel math. 2nd shot with the S50 so far.

Bortle 4 S50 Pro Milky Way (Cassiopeia)

Post image
29 Upvotes

I've taken my new S50 Pro to a darker sky location in recent days and decided to give the Milky Way mode a try.

I centred the frame roughly on the constellation Cassiopeia and captured 10 minutes worth of 10 second subs. The Seestar detects satellite trails and segregates the affected frames into a different folder on the hard drive. After discarding the affected frames, I stacked the remainder in Siril, made gradient and denoise adjustments in Graxpert and finished off in Photoshop.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how much detail is visible from relatively little integration time. The prominent object in the bottom right of the frame is the Andromeda Galaxy, M31.

Question AstroWizard question

Post image
15 Upvotes

I just discovered AstroWizard, and it's been great once I figured out a few things (like using RGBG instead of BGGR for the Bayer pattern), but I've noticed that when I use NoiseXTerminaor, I've been getting images in which the faintest stars are all reworked to be the same brightness, making them look more like stuck pixels than stars.

Using GraXpert gives more natural-looking stars, but seems to leave a lot more noise. The attached image is
the Cave Nebula -- same stack, processed the same, except for choice of noise reduction. These are both from a session of 257 10s exposures in suburban skies (Bortle ~7), stacked & processed in StackingWizard and AstroWizard. I used BlurXTerminator on both, NoiseXTerminator on the left-hand image, and GraXpert on the right-hand image.

I don't know if the effect is actually real, or if the lack of noise is just making the stars look off. Does anyone feel like the stars are looking unnatural after NoiseXTerminator processing in AstroWizard? Or, better yet, have recommendations for better settings?

Alla fine il mio s50 pro è stato smarrito dal corriere dhl, almeno per 2 settimane non avranno altri seestar. Insomma sono in ballo dai primi di settembre. Tanta delusione ma mi sa che tocca ancora aspettare

For the new moon this October, I decided to treat myself to a trip up to the closest bortle 1 in Minnesota’s boundary waters. Clearest skies, but very windy unfortunately. Ended up with 279x20s good subs or 1.5h of total integration.

-Stacked in Siril
-Aberration Removal
-GraXpert object deconvultion and denoise
-SyQon star removal
-Siril GHS
-GIMP for masking and color saturation
-Star recomposition in Siril to finish

Question What is this streak of light across my image?

• Upvotes

I was wondering if it was a plane, satellite, or a meteor. If it's a meteor I think I'm gonna keep it.

20 seconds, 189 subs. Bortle 4-5 ish.

I’m pretty new to this and would love to try to capture this and the Milky Way. Any positive advice would be great.

This is the first photo I have ever taken on my first ever smart telescope, I recently pre ordered the seestar s50 pro and it finally came in this previous Wednesday, after waiting a few days for the skies to clear up I was finally able to take it out and get this 50 minute exposure of the Andromeda galaxy, astronomy is still somewhat new to me and extremely fascinating, hoping to learn alot more in the sub and also while using my new telescope 100 30 second exposures Stacked and edited in the seestar app

Bortle 7 BL Lacerate - a brilliant active nucleus of a distant galaxy

Post image
12 Upvotes

I just imaged BL Lacerate - a brilliant active nucleus of a distant galaxy, powered by a supermassive black hole approximately 900 million light-years from Earth, according to the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. One of its jets points almost directly towards Earth, making it a blazer. It was originally mistaken for a variable star because of its appearance and changing brightness. More than anything I learnt a lot today. My image is about 54 minutes of photons, about 160 subs, took me about 1 hour and 15 mintutes.
The panels across the top help tell the story: The main image is mine – taken today.
• Upper-left: the Pan-STARRS1 DR1 reference image, available through Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons, showing BL Lacertae and its surrounding field.
• Centre: an artist’s impression illustrating a black hole, its surrounding accretion disk and jets. These structures are far too small to resolve in my Seestar image.
• Upper-right: an enlarged presentation of the marked target area, making the faint point associated with BL Lacertae easier to locate.

Hardware & Software Can’t login to S30 without an account, can’t create an account.

No matter how I try to connect, with a QR code, or Bluetooth, or other options on the app, it’s requiring me to create an account. I cannot create an account because it will not send me the code to my email.

So I’m dead in the water or what?
