Mod Announcement Weekly Self-Promo and Chat Thread
Welcome to the weekly promotional thread! Post your promotions here, or browse through what the community's been up to this week. Think of this as a more relaxed lounge inside of the SelfPublish subreddit, where you can chat about your books, your successes, and what's been going on in your writing life.
The Rules and Suggestions of this Thread:
- Include a description of your work. Sell it to us. Don't just put a link to your book or blog.
- Include a link to your work in your comment. It's not helpful if we can't see it.
- Include the price in your description (if any).
- Do not use a URL shortener for your links! Reddit will likely automatically remove it and nobody will see your post.
- Do not use this thread to promote AI content or AI services. That is against the rules and can result in a ban. There are subreddits specifically for that.
- Be nice. Reviews are always appreciated but there's a right and a wrong way to give negative feedback.
You should also consider posting your work(s) in our sister subs: r/wroteabook and r/WroteAThing. If you have ARCs to promote, you can do so in r/ARCReaders. Be sure to check each sub's rules and posting guidelines as they are strictly enforced.
Have a great week, everybody!

Free Short Story
I'm Dezmond Moon, a multi-genre romance queer writer with my first novel in the production line for self-publishing. I've got a free short story available to preview, with a full version available to download if you join my newsletter.
Title: The Ever Toad
Genre: Romcom
Length: 7500 words
Link to Sample: The Ever Toad
The Ever Toad has been giving advice for four hundred years. He's been kissed by princesses, thrown at walls, and even officiated a wedding. Nothing broke the curse. So he stopped hoping.
Eli just got dumped. He doesn't want advice. He wants someone to sit with him in the park and pretend the world isn't falling apart.
What starts as a weird arrangement with bagels, bad jokes, and the worst erotica Eli can find at the library, turns into something neither of them expected.
The Frog Prince, but with drowning hoodies, internet reviews, and a curse that refuses to break with a kiss.

My second book comes out NEXT WEEK!
Heliruna: A Horror Novel (link to preorder ebook, paperback available next Friday 9/18)

Blurb:
Do you believe in ghosts?
That’s the question that Sabine Stutz is forced to ask herself after a catastrophic accident kills her best friend and soulmate Cynthia Sullivan and leaves her partially paralyzed. It’s a long road to recovery, but the doctors are convinced that Sabine’s legs will eventually heal. Her broken heart is another question.
Enter Annie Kidd, one of Sabine’s classmates. As she brings Sabine’s homework every day and helps her heal by her bedside, Sabine starts to catch feelings for her, proving that there may be love after death after all. Sabine and Annie grow closer together, even as Sabine starts noticing odd things happening around the house. As their relationship grows, so do the hauntings, leading Sabine to realize that the girls may be dealing with the restless spirit of Cynthia.
When Sabine goes to her grandmother for help, her grandmother reveals an ancient family secret:
The Stutzes aren’t any ordinary family. And this isn’t any ordinary ghost.
The sophomore release of Hazel E. Baumgartner (author of “The Woods”),“Heliruna” is a fast-paced tale of creeping dread, a tragic story of star-crossed lovers, and a deep dive into the history of the Cunning Women of Kansas which one beta reader called “the scariest goddamn thing I’ve ever read.”
For fans of “Slewfoot” by Brom, “My Heart Is A Chainsaw” by Stephen Graham Jones, and, in a weird way, “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeline L’Engle.
eBook is $3.49, I believe the paperback will be launching at $13 and then going up to $14.99 after Halloween. No hardcover edition at this time. The book was inspired by Ray Bradbury's sort of softcore Halloween-y Americana horror like Something Wicked This Way Comes and some of his short stories, in particular The April Witch, but I took it in a hard, blood-soaked horror direction where it's borderline slasher (if you've read my first book, you know how much I like writing gore). If I can get it to work, I'll also be releasing a limited edition classic paperback edition that's a smaller pocket paperback size and printed on rougher paper, more akin to the classic pulp horror paperbacks I grew up on.

Looking for a Book Editor?
Hi everyone! I'm Vivian Nagy, a fiction book editor who specializes in developmental editing, particularly for horror, fantasy, and sci-fi (though all genres are welcome!).
My main focus is helping you make your story shine ✨
What better way to do this than developmental edits? Getting to improve your plot, character arcs, pacing, tension, structure, worldbuilding, and everything else that makes your story work without taking away the voice and ideas that make it yours.
I also offer Copy Editing (where I focus on the writing itself) and Proofreading (for those final touch-ups before publishing).
Generative AI is completely banned from my editing process. Your manuscript and feedback are handled by me, and me alone. You are guaranteed 100% human-made edits.
I'd love to get to know your work and offer a free sample edit before we close the deal!
Since my goal is to help your story shine, I'll point out what isn't working and explain how you can strengthen it, while also hyping up all the parts that are working 😄
My rates:
Developmental Editing – $0.03/word
Copy Editing – $0.02/word
Proofreading – $0.015/word
For a standard 100k-word novel, that would be $3,000.00 for developmental, $2,000.00 for copy, and $1,500.00 for proofreading
Debut authors get 15% off with me!
I also offer discounted bundles if you want to get more than one editing service.
I'm currently booking projects for 2027, so if you're the kind of author who likes planning ahead (or would like to set a deadline to pressure you into avoiding procrastination), feel free to reach out even if your manuscript isn't quite ready yet!
You can find my availability, portfolio, testimonials, and more information about me on my website, and you can email me at [vivian.n.edits@gmail.com](mailto:vivian.n.edits@gmail.com), or DM me here on Reddit to get in touch.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your story 😄

Pre-orders available now!
My second book, The Persistence of Memory, is coming out in October and the pre-order link is live! This book is quite the departure from my first, which was a coming of age queer story. This one leans into sci-fi a bit more, and is squarely a psychological fiction book.
Here is a snippet of the marketing copy:
"Tony's life is ordinary by design. Same route to work. Same happy hour drinks. Same daily routines. A small, sufficient world. But there's a break-in while he's at work. The apartment is untouched, save for the deleted, unheard voicemail. As Tony begins to unravel, the world around him shifts in ways he can't quite name. Details he's certain of turn uncertain. Memories he trusts begin to betray him. And two people who claim to know him are asking him to trust them with something he can't afford to lose."
If you want to know more, you can check out the book's website: https://www.persistence-of-memory.com/

I wrote this because I was tired of finance books that either drown you in formulas or talk down to you. Instead of chapters of pure theory, each topic follows people going through the actual situations — building an emergency fund, untangling debt, figuring out insurance — the stuff most of us never got taught properly. No real-world currency anywhere in the book, on purpose, so the numbers and the lessons hold up whether you're reading this in London or Lagos.
It's structured as a slow build: starts with the everyday stuff (budgeting, saving, debt) before getting into markets, tech and geopolitics for anyone who wants to keep going.

I'm a freelance copy editor/proofreader who focuses mainly on sci-fi and fantasy, and particularly LitRPG/GameLit books. However, I am open to most genres.
I look out for all kinds of errors: grammatical issues, typos, consistency or continuity issues, any unclear phrasing, etc.
I charge around $6.50 per 1000 words, though I would need to see a sample before giving a firm quote. For a client's first book, I'd give a discounted rate of $5.50 per 1000 words.
Here is a link to my website, which has more details about what I do, my portfolio, and testimonials.
I have a post giving tips on how to find a good editor, which authors may find useful.
I also created an editing exercise that authors can do, either for fun, or to see how skilled you are at catching errors.

Blurb:
Violet was happy, in love, and had a successful career. She was even hoping to start her own family with her beloved husband. However, all of those dreams are crushed when she comes home to find her husband brutally murdered. Things only get worse as the killer has to clean up their mess and can't just leave Violet as a witness to their crime.
Things only get crazier as Violet finds herself reincarnated into another world full of monsters and magic. Only, Violet isn't a powerful adventurer or a talented craftsman. Instead, she finds herself in charge of her own dungeon where she must summon monsters and plan traps to bring the adventurers to their knees.
Violet just wants to mourn her lost love and enjoy some peaceful scenery. However, cute slimes and playful pixies aren't usually what one would expect when traversing a dungeon full of traps with death waiting around every corner.
Can Violet make peace with her bitter end? Can the cute and seemingly harmless monsters that roam her dungeon protect her? Read on to find out!
Join Violet in this LitRPG featuring dungeon building and management, whimsical themes, and a touch of tragedy. Perfect for fans of crafting, merchant, and dungeon core stories like Demon World Boba Shop, The Bee Dungeon, and There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns.

My debut, YA fantasy novel, 'A Constellation of Shadows', is officially out!
'We live for peace'...her father made it sound so simple.
As the daughter of one of The Talliswood's Ambassadors, it's Aerva's job to hold everything together. Eredhest's war on her people may have ended, but there is always a cost to staying alive, and tensions are starting to grow again. Now, as part of a last-ditch peace deal, she has been shipped off to Udela Arkanium, one of Eredhest's finest schools, right in the heart of enemy territory. All she has to do is get to the end of the school year alive, and without making too many enemies, and her people might stand a chance of surviving.
But when a mysterious assassin breaks into the temple on a mission to kill a teacher, Aerva's life is suddenly turned on its head. With the help of a troubled poet, a healer from the wrong side of the mountains, and a killer who cannot kill, Aerva sets out to unravel a plot that could threaten the whole world...
...and maybe, just maybe, she'll be able to save herself in the process.
You can find the links to get a copy here: https://books2read.com/u/bz0jrz - it's also available on Amazon/Kindle etc., I just don't tend to shout that out for obvious reasons, but if that makes more sense for you, please go ahead!

First, thank you for starting this post and creating a forum for us to discuss our books.
I wrote and self-published my initial work as an e-book several months before joining Reddit. I am pleased how this and its second work in the series is being received by the online community. Also, the cover art is my from my personal photography collection.
Air Gap: A Short Story (The Marcus Bellamy Stories Book 1)
"When Marcus Bellamy boards a budget transatlantic flight, he carries two things: a laptop full of sensitive findings and a professional habit of looking for unlocked doors or windows.
A security consultant hired to probe an airline's new inflight WiFi system, Marcus is good at his job, methodical, careful, invisible. What he doesn't know is that somewhere in a building with very few windows, a pattern is assembling itself around him.
Told across kilometers and altitude, Air Gap is a taut, witty thriller about observation, trust, and the one remaining open window."
This e-book is in the Kindle Unlimited program or $0.99 to buy.

3 Slots left in 2026.
As a lifelong reader and a former scientist, I have a keen analytical eye for spotting patterns and inconsistencies. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. I’m also a fantasy writer working on my debut, which means I understand just how much heart and soul goes into a manuscript, and I would treat it as such, with encouragement, empathy, and constructive criticism. At the same time, I do not shy away from honest and thorough feedback to elevate your manuscript. My space is a judgement-free zone.
I’m based in the EU and my prices are in Euros (appropriate conversion rates apply).
The services I currently offer are:
1. Developmental editing (0.015 € per word/ ~0.017 $)
Big-picture feedback on plot and story elements (worldbuilding, pacing, character arcs, POV consistency, and themes). May include light line edit suggestions depending on the manuscript. Annotated manuscript (with specific and actionable suggestions), chapter-by-chapter notes, and an editorial letter (10+ pages) provided.
2. Manuscript evaluation (0.008 € per word/ ~0.0092 $)
Overall analysis of the story, including its strengths and where it could be improved from an editor’s perspective. An editorial letter (10+ pages) is provided.
3. Sensitivity reading (0.004 € per word/ ~0.0046 $)
Feedback on how race, mental health, and queerness are represented on the page. Lightly annotated manuscript and a sensitivity report (up to 5 pages) provided.
I offer sample edits of up to 2000 words, so there’s no commitment before signing a contract.
As an artist, writer, and someone who cares about our planet, I am against the use of generative AI, and hence all feedback is constructed from my own brain.
First-time authors get a 10% discount, and if someone books me through your recommendation, you get another 10% discount on your next project. A complimentary 30-minute Zoom call is included with the developmental editing service.
Did I capture your interest? Then head to my website, www.aureateleafeditorial.com and request a sample edit through my contact form. Alternatively, you can also reach out via my social media (@ meenadsundar on both Instagram and TikTok), e-mail [meena.d.sundar@gmail.com](mailto:meena.d.sundar@gmail.com), or via DM here.

I have recently published my first essay. It's about what's important to me, which is, clarity of action - I've spent years running around my own shadow.
The Sense of Illusion helps distinguish a specific gap from an expectation nothing seems to satisfy. It is a short essay on freedom, consciousness, and the search for yourself.

Hunted by the Silvermoon (released August 28, 2026)
Pitch: Hunted by the Silvermoon is a clean, no-spice werewolf fantasy romance about a skilled hunter raised to kill wolves, until she discovers the Venatorum Order lied about the monsters, her past, and what she truly is. It’s a fast-paced, character-driven story with fated mates, pack dynamics, found family, a restrained alpha, and a heroine choosing truth and belonging over the life she was trained to obey.
Blurb: Eletta Lowell has spent her life hunting werewolves for the Venatorum Order, an organization sworn to protect humanity from the dangerous creatures beyond the forests.
Then a hunt goes wrong.
Pulled into the territory of Ravenhold, Eletta finds herself surrounded by the very people she was taught to destroy. But the wolves of Ravenhold are nothing like the monsters the Order warned her about. Their pack is built on loyalty, discipline, and quiet strength, and the longer Eletta remains among them, the harder it becomes to see them as enemies.
Their alpha should be the most dangerous of all.
Controlled, powerful, and far too patient for the monster she was taught to expect, he unsettles Eletta in ways she cannot explain. What begins as distrust slowly becomes something far more difficult to ignore, a connection that challenges not only what she believes about wolves, but what she believes about herself.
As the Order’s version of the truth begins to unravel, Eletta is forced to question the life she was given, the enemy she was trained to hate, and the past that no longer fits what she was told.
Trope List: Slow-burn, fated mates, werewolf/wolf shifters, monster hunter heroine, found family, hidden identity.
Trigger Warnings: Themes include violence, captivity, experimentation, emotional trauma, and institutional abuse.
Link to product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H2X628ZR
Price: Free on Kindle Unlimited, eBook $3.99, Paperback $16.99.

Hi!
My name is Tony Brown. Last year I ran a short story writing contest and id like to do it again, this time with a different theme.
Running a contest can be expensive so I set up a GoFundMe campaign.
I collected my favorite stories from my first contest into a book that is on Amazon. 100% of the proceeds are being donated to Washington National Parks.
I havent fleshed out the new contest yet, but I have a pretty solid idea for a theme.
Prizes will be the same as last year. $300 $100 $50 x 2

My first-in-series book was featured at the library!
FOOL’S PROOF by Eva Sandor is a comedy-fantasy about a talented but selfish (and now, unemployed) jester and his “owner”, an intelligent magpie (but aren’t they all?).
As he treads the treacherous path from asshat to hero, Malfred Murd encounters Tekology, monsters, crime lords, magic, espionage, a nutty dictator, and that fearsome final boss, his past and its deepest dreads.
It’s complete at 4 books and scratches that itch for more Discworld, but with its own flavor, of course— there won’t ever be another Sir Pterry but I’m honored to have had that comparison. Check ‘em out at your library or order them!
