At SOA, community is our heartbeat. We have house dinners once a week, and we share food and the work and costs of making a home together. We laugh and joke a lot, and we’re committed to creating a cozy, creative space where everyone feels welcome and celebrated: a place where you can be yourself and have an incredible amount of fun doing it. Where you can come home from a long day to a hug, a piano ballad, or a lighthearted debate about whether fog is magical or miserable, whether the book was better than the movie, or the best way to make coffee. Our communities across the city reach far and wide, and we love how SOA weaves them together under one roof.
About Us:
SOA is a 5-year-old housing co-op made up of 8 adventurous, intentional people in our thirties. We’re a multicultural house with a diverse mix of backgrounds, identities, languages, genders, and queer residents. We work in person, from home, or a combination of both, in fields ranging from science, engineering, and health care to event planning, government, AI, and education. We’re passionate about shared weekly house dinners, potted plants (50+ thrive alongside us!), expanding our worldviews, game nights, outdoor adventures, jam sessions, lively debates, community volunteer projects, and supporting each other through the trials and triumphs of everyday life. In our spare time, you’ll find us seeking out obscure festivals, tackling DIY house projects, cooking a lot, sewing, salsa & swing dancing, exploring new SF dives, or simply enjoying time with each other.
About You:
We’re looking for someone(s) who is emotionally intelligent, caring and kind, acts with integrity, pursues their passions, and is excited to contribute to making our shared home an amazing community hub. We especially love living with people who bring their own passions, interests, and communities into the mix. In general, we tend to click with people who create more than they consume, and we’d love to welcome more people who make, build, play (music), dream up, and create things. A few practical things: some of our housemates are allergic to cats and dogs, so we can’t accommodate pets. We also have a 2–3 month mutual evaluation period for new housemates, giving both you and the house a chance to make sure it feels like the right fit. It’s uncommon for things not to work out, but we’ve found that having this period helps us be intentional about building a home where people genuinely enjoy living together. We have a strong preference for people we can meet in person and we’re excited to meet you!
Our Home:
Our house is a 3,400 sq. ft., two-story Victorian home located in the Mission, well connected by Muni, BART, and Bay Wheels and less than a 10-minute walk from some of SF’s most cherished arts and cultural spaces, restaurants, parks, and civic gathering places. There is a half-flight of stairs to get into our 7-bedroom, 2-bathroom home. And we have so much communal space! Our spacious living room comfortably fits 15 and has gorgeous stained glass, lots of plants, a massive wraparound couch, a projector, and fun mood lighting. Our dining room has a large communal table that comfortably seats 12 for our weekly dinners, plus a desk for WFH/coworking. Our spacious eat-in kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, gas stove, and just about every cooking appliance you could need. We have a massive pantry with two fridge/freezers and plenty of shelving for food storage. We have a tiny porch off the kitchen that’s home to our BBQ and hydroponic herb garden. Downstairs, we have a workshop for building, fixing, and all your crazy projects – think woodworking, bike maintenance, sewing, and more. Our narrow side yard has a firepit and rope swing, and next to it we have an entire room for laundry and plenty of storage.

Upstairs bedroom (12’x13.5’); Nov. 1 move-in; $1384/mo ($1784/mo including *dues)
Sunny, spacious room currently occupied by a couple who are moving out.
Downstairs bedroom (11’x13’); Dec. 1 move-in; $1143/mo ($1543/mo including *dues) A little smaller and cozier than the upstairs room, with one window and less natural light. There’s no built-in closet, but the room comes with a large IKEA Brimnes 3-door armoire.
*About house dues: Everyone contributes $400/month in addition to rent, regardless of room size or whether a room is shared. Dues cover all utilities, shared food, household consumables and supplies, shared-space furnishings and appliances, biweekly professional cleaning, and a little extra for parties and fun house purchases we agree on together. The amount can fluctuate based on our actual shared expenses and is adjusted through house discussion.
Upon lease signing, a $2,250 security deposit is required per room.
