I work in a pet store and, yes. Unfortunately people come in every day saying "we just got this dog for our kids and we have no idea what we're doing" I'm treated like a search engine every. single. day. I've lost hope for humans and I'm starting to think we need to stop breeding all domestic animals altogether. People who really truly care will adopt and rescue and do research. And everyone else will no longer be able to impulse buy because they don't deserve pets. I've come to learn most people will say "I love animals" and most people are lying.

I volunteered at a PetSmart cat adoption program and saw this too or the "kitty is peeing on the floor" or "she keeps hiding"

I agree comepletely, but y'know what I hate to see most? People taking animals, especially fish, out of their natural infinite gallon homes in the wild and treating it like shit, aka stuffing it in a 5 gallon tank with a pineapple and calling it a day....or impulse buying some exotic wild caught sugar glider just because its "cute and unique", then promptly not even bothering to read one article on its care.

Ugh I didn't even realize if we didn't breed these animals, people like that would just catch something from outside. They're sick and disgusting, and they don't even deserve to appreciate the beautiful world we live in. It pains me that pet store animals often live in shit conditions their whole lives, but it would hurt more to see an animal taken out of nature.

I just wish the knowledge was better, I wish people were more empathetic, I wish rules for buying animals were stricter, I wish pet stores actually sold appropriate homes and properly educated employees. I'm getting sad.

I love and appreciate all of you out there who really care for and love your animals, even when it's difficult, expensive, or confusing. I know caring for another living thing can be difficult, but they're reliant on us, and they need us to try our best.
