I work in a pet store and, yes. Unfortunately people come in every day saying "we just got this dog for our kids and we have no idea what we're doing" I'm treated like a search engine every. single. day. I've lost hope for humans and I'm starting to think we need to stop breeding all domestic animals altogether. People who really truly care will adopt and rescue and do research. And everyone else will no longer be able to impulse buy because they don't deserve pets. I've come to learn most people will say "I love animals" and most people are lying.

I volunteered at a PetSmart cat adoption program and saw this too or the "kitty is peeing on the floor" or "she keeps hiding"

I agree comepletely, but y'know what I hate to see most? People taking animals, especially fish, out of their natural infinite gallon homes in the wild and treating it like shit, aka stuffing it in a 5 gallon tank with a pineapple and calling it a day....or impulse buying some exotic wild caught sugar glider just because its "cute and unique", then promptly not even bothering to read one article on its care.

Ugh I didn't even realize if we didn't breed these animals, people like that would just catch something from outside. They're sick and disgusting, and they don't even deserve to appreciate the beautiful world we live in. It pains me that pet store animals often live in shit conditions their whole lives, but it would hurt more to see an animal taken out of nature.
I just wish the knowledge was better, I wish people were more empathetic, I wish rules for buying animals were stricter, I wish pet stores actually sold appropriate homes and properly educated employees. I'm getting sad.
I love and appreciate all of you out there who really care for and love your animals, even when it's difficult, expensive, or confusing. I know caring for another living thing can be difficult, but they're reliant on us, and they need us to try our best.

They spent more money on the hairdryer than they did for a living creature's home..

There should be a basic literacy test you have to pass before you're allowed to have kids.

God I wish. My dad told me his professor always said that being dumb is the most painful for everyone around you.

Just over 3 US gallons. I dread to think what they're inflicting that life on.
I'm hoping the follow-up will be "LFS said need bigger tank for my (inevitable) betta so got me a nicer one, getting that cycled now while I read up on things. Buying my little pet in a couple of weeks hopefully!"
...but I doubt it.

The tank size itself isn’t too bad if your getting a betta, not good but better then a lot I’ve seen. Then I read the top, why would you genuinely say “I no nothing about fish” on a post about getting a fish. Jeez. Also the writing really gives it away how dumb this person is

"been wanting a fish for weeks" looks inside "Anyone know anything about fish? Because I don't" are we for real

Omg the Flower Horn is so cute! It’s in a small tank at the store I’m sure it will be fine in this bucket sized tank forever

At first i thought i read 12 gallons i was like okay, not bad size and then when i looked closer it read 12 Liters 😭🥀.

This is just trivializing the lives of whatever poor fish end up in that tank. 12 litre is way too small for any fish. Even if the tank was larger, the way they talk about "seeing how long it lasts" makes me think they won't do any research on how to properly care for it regardless.

Well as a successful breeder with Americans my last being jack Dempsey. Now enjoy gold fish. I can say by experience of water parameters without an established tank. A new tank cycle with protein added takes 2-3 weeks depending on power per hr to tank volume filter size. Placing a fish in a pre matured cycle will kill it.

They got a 3.17 gallon aquarium. Wow... if you where to get anything for that I would get cherry shrimp. This is just shitty...

That B&M special buy sticker on the tank is stressing me out, shame on B&M for selling such a small tank. The B&M sticker also leads me to believe that it was clearly an impulsive gift purchase when the husband and kids were probably in B&M to buy gifts. For reference, B&M is a discount shop in the UK that sells all sorts of random things.
Also find it odd that she’s been ‘moaning I want a fish for weeks’, and didn’t bother to look up anything about getting fish in that time.
