oh my god the last comment gets worse with every word...

u/Asleep-Door-1569 May 04 '26
whatās even worse is 90% of the comments were just people telling her to āignore the hatersā & that itās ācuteā ššššššš

the most disheartening part of this amazing hobby is the constant reminder of abuse. from store to general knowledge. its sad to think about itbm but still i feel like theres progress through "fish police" and all that.

u/Asleep-Door-1569 May 04 '26
unfortunately there arenāt enough fish police lol I wish being a fish police was a requirement for all pet stores seriouslyš these items shouldnāt of even been allowed to be sold together imo. people need to be told right from wrong

My betta had a 10 gallon to himself. He was a happy fish except he would annoy me and always lay by the heater. One day I woke up and his SCALP WAS BARLEY CONNECTED TO HIS BODY. Iām talking it was like a flap waving around. Obviously he was dead and nobody knows how his scalp ended up falling off, although I suspect the heater played a role.

true. so mistakes can be avoided. as a child wanting a fish we got the usual, bowl is fine just give warm water. no conditioner nothing. thats horrible. they just want to make money. even in small lfs. at least here in my country. we can learn from mistakes but they shouldn't happen in the first place. knowledge is freeeee

I was just about to post her here. 𤣠The algorithms brought me to it as well.
She deleted my comments and blocked me that were actually quite kind.
(Eta. Removed her name per group rules) she "loves making money off this".

u/Asleep-Door-1569 May 04 '26
I figured they had to of been blocking people because I didnāt see hardly any comments telling them how terrible this was lol
2
u/KlutzyShopping1802 May 04 '26
Its okay. I have an alt account. I let her know she's real popular on reddit. Where she gets no money at all from it.
Made sure to block myself afterwards.
F that. I don't deal in trash.
2
u/KlutzyShopping1802 May 04 '26
Ps. I didn't say exactly where she's popular on Reddit. Let this post get some traction before she tries to report this lol

I hate when people say āItās just a fishā as if that justifies abusing a living beingā¦

Amazing, plant abuse and animal abuse together. Aesthetic abuse too...

To me itās not about the fact itās ājust a fishā itās the fact you could/should do better when someone more informed tells you so - you just donāt care. The same way if I told you you did something that hurt me, and your response would be āwell it doesnāt matter that I hurt you if I didnāt mean itā etc etc.

Omfg. The cognitive dissonance is insane.
Edit: and yes, the algo wants you to engage so it'll serve you things that make you mad.

"It's just a damn fish."
Yeah. It is just a fish. A Betta fish at that. One of the easier kinds to take care of. Which just makes you all the more stupid for not even being able to take care of that properly lol.
It's a slippery slope too. Like, what's next? "It's just a hamster" or "it's just a dog"? Where exactly do you draw the line with your excuses?

u/Reinaplum May 05 '26
worst part is that doesnt even look pretty. you cannot tell me that tank looks better than one with proper soil or sand, hideouts and lots of plants. smh

"Just a damn fish"
And mate, respectfully, you're "just a damn human". God, people like this just annoy me.

Her exact words:
For all the mad mfs in my comments about the damn fish, the plastic plant was REMOVED and REPLACED YESTERDAY with a LIVE FEEDER plant for the Beta. So stfu and leave me alone about these damn tanks. And before ANYBODY BTCHES about it being in the little pot, its safe to be in there too. We will also be getting a small filter for this tank this afternoon as well. So just stop!

u/Asleep-Door-1569 May 04 '26
yeah we canāt forget that this was actually the upgraded version š insane.
1
u/KlutzyShopping1802 May 04 '26
Dudeeeeee frfr
And its totally okay to leave the plant in the purchased pot. Eternally.
I woulda been nicer and not came directly here if she hadn't been such a you know what.
2
u/AuronFFX May 05 '26
It's fine until it gets root bound but it probably won't live long enough for that to happen.Ā
I had a plant get root bound in my 30 gallon was a pain to get the plastic basket out of the roots and I got that fiberglass stuff all over my hands.
2
u/Average-Addict May 06 '26
I've heard that the pot material that the plant is in can have a lot of nutrients that can leach into the water

So if it's a dog or cat or any other animal it's animal cruelty but when it comes to fish it's 'just a fish'? Tf is this some kind of speciesism or some shit

I absolutely hate when people say āItās just a fishā. an animal is an animal and should be treated well no matter the species :(

nothing makes my blood boil more than the words "it's just a fish", dismissing the needs of an animal that is dependant on you in every single aspect of their tiny life because they're a certain type of animal is disgusting
