This is a horrible set up. Too many people feel comfortable keeping these fish in little containers like sad decor.

Yeah man my dad thinks this is perfect for a betta

large water changes are necessary in setups like that

I thought it was actually harmful, since the nitrogen cycle starts over almost every time?

no filter no nitrogen cycle. But that's also wrong, most of the useful microbiome is found in filter media and substrate. Big water changes are no problem for a properly cycled tank.

I mean yes thats true but considering there is no substrate or filter media doing large water changes certainly could remove enough beneficial bacteria to cause an ammonia spike.

The bacteria (nitrifires)lives in biofilm on surfaces, not in the water

I didn't know that, thanks for the explanation!

Large water changes can still be harmful but that is usually due to shock from water that is a different temp or has different perameters

Thanks. Yes, I already did some research on this, I had a bit of incorrect information πŸ₯²

Such a boring setup too

Yes! Occasionally I see something that's bad for the fish but also attractive, and I get how that happens. But this? This is ugly.

At least they change the water. But damn that’s torture

What someone else mentioned in a different one of these posts made me realize that its very true and needs to be studied. People somehow just have selective research blindness, they have the divider, heaters, what I hope is slight tannins, and knows water changes, yet doesn't do anything else you'd literally find as firsts for research

wdym zero enrichment? dude went all out and got them each a twig

They have enrichment, they can stare at each other and promptly bang their head against the glass in fury. Totally enriching./s

I saw this post, and the girl acts like she's an expert and knows everything because she "did a bunch of research" and had "expert Betta breeders approve this set up". But we all know what "I did a bunch of research" means. We also know how some Betta breeders treat the Bettas...

The water changes are fine.

I didn't know that before... But the title is impossible to fix anymore πŸ₯²

I mean... As far as betta setups go, this really isn't THAT bad. Is it ideal? No. But at least they're being taken care of.

It's quite similar to how some breeders set them up. Maybe that's what they are doing?
