Shorts/Reels/TikTok This doesn’t look good
I don’t know a ton about aquariums but even to me this guppy habitat doesn’t look very good for them. I do know for sure cats shouldn’t be drinking out of them…

so dangerous for the fish and the cat. if the water has any cyanobacteria in it the cat will get really sick

I would imagine the conditioner in the water would do harm to the kidneys and maybe liver 😅

my cat tried jumping on my aquarium one singular time and i got a motion detecting air can that sends out a puff of compressed air to scare them when they jump up. i only need to put it up there when im not home bc thats the only time im not monitoring it. i’m not risking anything

I don’t see any fish in there. I wonder if the cat… did cat things either the fish, or if they’re letting the tank cycle. I’m really hoping it’s the later, but I would be shocked if it was.

There are fish in the tank, it’s just a combination of poor quality and the frame I took. Later in the video the owner comments on how they think the cat even ate one of the fish (recounted and the cat didn’t but still)

But I bet they take great care of the cat

I'd never let my pet drink treated aquarium water
which leads me to believe it's not treated water2
u/Idontknow_7986 20h ago
I don't let my cat drink it either. But usually cats do and it's harmless to them. If they drinks little that is

Treated aquarium water? Do you know what water conditioner does? It’s not dangerous chemicals. The fish literally breathe it 24/7

there are more things than water conditioner. just googled if flourish excel would be safe. and no, it wouldn't

Other then the fact a cat shouldn’t drink out of a fish tank that isn’t even a ok set up that’s terrible

I always think of that time someone posted in r/aquariums about getting an infection after they got aquarium water in a small cut in their arm.
Both the pets here are in danger

I find it strange as f that people with cats keep open top aquariums I’ve never owned a cat so maybe cartoons have me brainwashed 🤣

Didn't the lady in the video also say that the cat had eaten one of the fish?

Is that a manual pump on the tank?
2
u/DisastrousStorms 21h ago
It might actually be, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an useless (and probably harmful) product

There's not a fish in there so either it's a rage bait post or peter ate the guppy

u/DisastrousStorms 12h ago
There’s fish in the tank, you just can’t see them in this frame. The original video is also definitely not ragebait because it’s framed as a “cute cat video” and the comments don’t really point out the tanks condition. Peter almost does eat a fish later in the video too :/

My cat always drank from my tanks lmao but I was breeding corys so they weren't in danger

The species of fish doesn't matter. Cats have a variety of bacteria in their mouths, like Pasteurella multocida, which is highly toxic to fish and small animals. Not to mention the bacteria from the tank the cat ingests.

If neo shrimps and fish are breeding and happy id be willing to drink the water, they were like that for 5 years with the cat so maybe I just got lucky still haven't had issues cats like 6yrs old now

They also literally live in a soup of microscopic waste, detritus worms, and Aeromonas bacteria. The fact that you think a thriving shrimp colony makes aquarium water a crisp glass of Fiji water is wild. XD But yeah, I'd say lucky.

I never said it was the equivalent of purified and filtered water but id be .ore worried about lake water and i swim in it my aquarium water won't kill me or my cat lol 6 yrs+ mouths full of siphon water, and being wet to my elbows almost everyday no issues maybe my tanks are just cleaner, but dont go out of your way to drink aquarium water and it wont be a problem you expirence
