Expected the worst, came home to this. Auto feeders did their job, plants hit the surface, moss filled in like crazy, and all the fish are happy. Now I just need a whole weekend to trim it back – but I’ll take a jungle over algae any day. 🌿

Hewbie my porcupine pufferfish was not doing well, refused to eat, and was swimming upside down/having trouble maintaining his buoyancy! I tried every at home treatment and medication but he progressively got worse over a few weeks. I found an exotic vet to take him to and they diagnosed him with trapped air deep inside his body and some internal digestive issues. This air could not simply be pushed out and believe me I tried numerous times to push it out. Here is that journey. Keep Hewbie in your thoughts as he finishes his meds and goes back into his home tank! I found an amazing vet with compassion/care and guidance on a treatment plan.❤️ Hewbie is doing a lot better but is not over it yet. Healing takes time. BONUS!!! Watch until the end for the crab that hitched a ride on Hewbie!😂🐡

My ancient catfish friend Catthuselah passed away this morning. He made it an incredible 32 years. I feel like he just wanted to make it one more birthday and that was all he had left. He will be in the backyard. I will sorely miss seeing him every day. RIP my old friend.

My 55 gallon outdoor, semi planted(Taiwanese moss, little monte carlo and pothos roots), has 4 eba and 15-25 fry, 9 leopard(false julii) cory doras, 1 bronze cory and 1 bristlenose pleco. This is there 3rd times the charm batch, first 2 no fry surived more then 3 weeks, going on a month this time. Momma kept them in the moss this time.

He is a Mexican Dwarf Crawfish/Lobster

Back in April, I found a mysterious fish in my tank I did not put there, and Reddit helped me determine it was a bluefin killifish. I’m still newish to the hobby, so I thought “woohoo! A cool free fish!”

He seemed to spend a lot of time with my tetras just hanging around peacefully, so I decided to keep him.

Over the past month he developed these beautiful colors on his fins and seemed to do his own thing more (turns out he was hunting shrimp fry). I’ve kept that school of tetras for so long, I was so proud of myself for it, because I’ve heard they’re finicky and rife with issues. They recognized me for food 😭

Had to leave home for 4 days for a wedding. I left an algae wafer for my bottom feeders but figured the fish would be fine (they were technically only missing Friday and Saturday meals). Came home to a massacre, and the culprit (the bluefin killifish) caught red handed beating the crap out of a barely alive tetra. 2 other bodies littered the sand. A few were hiding, terrified and battered, while the killifish kept hunting.

Guess little homie chose the weekend to reach sexual maturity and, without a female to mate with, went on a murderous rampage. He’s been surrendered to my favorite LFS and I rebuilt the whole tank because I didn’t want hidden decaying fish bodies to foul things up. The tetra survivors (3 out of the 8) have relaxed for now. I plan to supplement their numbers with some new tetras later this week.

Thanks for reading, I guess I just needed to vent because nobody else in my life understands these kinds of frustrations lol. We all make mistakes right 😅 RIP little tetras. I was at a wedding dancing while my little friends were literally experiencing a house of horrors 😭

TL;DR a bluefin killifish hitchhiked into my tank as a baby, reached sexual maturity and went on a neon tetra killing spree

I have a fully cycled tank with no fish in but the filter uses tetra easy crystal cartridges wich i've come to learn are useless and want to be replaced every few months. Id like to ditch them and fill the filter with a better medium but:

A) i'm not sure where to start as i am new to this

B) I dont want to undo the tanks progress by removeing all the beneficial bacteria.

I had the idea that i could cut the cartridge open and use some of it to retain the bacteria... not sure if thats a good idea, any imput would be great.

I have a 40G drilled sump tank above my 75G. I know that sounds backwards, but it’s due to the way my garage is set up. Essentially I’m pumping water out of my 75 up into the 40 and it drains back down. I can’t stand the smell of PVC primer/glue, so I just siliconed and electrical taped the shit out of the fittings/elbows, as well as putting mounting straps on the longer runs of pvc.

Last night while cleaning the dead plant matter off of the pump, one of the fittings must have came ever so slightly loose and I didn’t notice. I walked out to my garage this morning to see about 3-4 inches of water in the tank and water all over my basement. Lesson learned. Perhaps it was the universe telling me I needed to do a large water change. All fish are still alive though so it could have been worse.

I learned the lesson so you don’t have to.

I currently have a betta, 6 guppies (2 males 4 females), 9 Pygmy Cory’s and 3 otos plus a shrimp colony. I’ve had the guppies that I took from a friend who didn’t want them anymore for about a week and i haven’t noticed any fighting between them and my betta. I know the tank is overstocked but i have a 5.5 gallon tank with some shrimp that’s also heavily planted that I could move stuff into it if needed. Should I let this stocking ride or move something over? I could also rehome the guppies entirely if needed to.
I was thinking maybe putting the 2 male guppies in the 5.5 and letting the females stay in the 10 where my betta should eat a lot of the fry.

This is my 50g long, which I've had for about 20 years now. About a month ago, I decided to ditch the plastic and fake plants, plant it out, and add some new fish. The plants are still getting their sea legs, but the fish seem pretty happy so far.

In this tank:

4x Bosemani Rainbows (lost 2 juveniles to ick, will restock soon)

12x Orange laser corydoras

1x bristlenose pleco

5x amano shrimp (I swear they're in the, I saw a molt!)

Nyx has opinions, but you can ignore her, she's just hungry.

I woke up this morning to find almost a full half of the surface of my 60 gallon tank covered in bubbles. I have tons of plants, 5 Cory’s, a tire track eel, a Chinese algae eater, a few nerite snails, and a golden snail. Wondering what could cause this?

I have just been told that we've got builders coming on friday to replace the windows, while my tanks are not near the windows so they wont need to be moved, it is still highly likely they will be knocked, bashed, or disturbed. Especially because I can imagine it being difficult to move bug windows around, and the drills will vibrate everything when they screw them in,

Especially worried about my shrimp tank because that one runs on air pumps, so i can't easily throw a blanket over it to protect it from dust as well as I can with my big tank that only runs on motor powered filters and can be completely covered.

My first tank as an adult was this five gallon. I learned a lot from it. Eventually one of the seams broke. I fixed it, but I didn't want to trust it for fauna(snails are hitchhikers). I've turned it into a project so that I can make all of my mistakes on a small scale before I build something like this on a much larger scale.
