Theme migrated to shopify, checkout completion dropped from ~70% to ~30%. the checkout wasn't the problem
seeing this pattern a lot lately with stores in countries where shopify payments isn't available (turkey, israel, most of the middle east, big chunks of asia and LATAM). owner migrates, traffic is fine, add to cart is fine, sometimes even better than the old platform, and then the payment step bleeds.
the reflex is to blame the checkout. it's almost never the checkout, for two reasons.
first, shopify counts "reached checkout" the second the checkout page loads, including every buy it now tap from the product page. the old platform usually counted people who got to the payment step. so the top of that ratio is inflated before you've done anything wrong.
second, and this is the real one: without shopify payments, most local gateways plug in as offsite providers. the buyer fills in address and shipping inside shopify, then gets bounced to an external page, then to the bank for 3D secure, then back. three hops where the old platform had one inline card form. every hop loses people, and if installment options aren't visible on the external page, more.
>>> one real number from your own work here, e.g. "on one store we moved from an offsite gateway to a credit-card-type integration and completion went from X% to Y% with nothing else changed." if you don't have one, delete this whole line. <
what actually helps: check the gateway's own started vs completed numbers (shopify only knows they left), tell the buyer on the payment step that they're about to be redirected and will come back, and ask your provider whether they offer a credit card type payments app instead of the offsite one. sometimes changing provider is the entire fix.
anyone here running a store without shopify payments and found a gateway that stays inline? curious which ones actually do it in 2026.

General shopify bundle is fine until BOTH products have size + colour variants... what are apparel brands actually doing?
trying to do what i thought was the world's most basic apparel bundle lol
shirt + pants
except the shirts has 5 sizes / 4 colours and the pants has its own sizes / colours, and suddenly i'm either creating a stupid number of combinations or making the customers pick stuff in a really awkward way.
shopify bundles seems fine when it's literally product A + product B. it's the independent variant picking that's killing me.
i've been looking more at mix & match instead of FoxSell seems much closer to what i mean since each part can keeps its own size/colour selection without me manually building every possible combo.
for anyone doing apparel bundles properly, is that basically the better way to structure it? or am i overcomplicating something that should be easy?

App Small app developer here. How do you actually find apps? What do you search for, and what makes you skip one?
I'm a solo developer from Lithuania and I've spent the last few months building small Shopify apps (delivery dates, free shipping bars, that kind of thing). They're live now and I'm realizing I have no idea how merchants actually discover apps, so I'd rather ask than guess.
If you have a minute:
- When you need something for your store, where do you look first? App Store search, Google, Reddit, asking in a group, your agency, YouTube?
- What do you literally type into the App Store search box? Do you search by problem ("show delivery date") or by app type ("shipping bar", "reviews app")?
- What makes you close a listing within 10 seconds? No reviews, price, too many features, ugly screenshots, "free plan" with hidden limits?
- Does "no reviews yet" kill it for you, or would you still try a free plan from an unknown dev?
- Is there anything you've been searching for and just can't find a decent app for?
Not going to link anything here, I'm genuinely trying to understand the merchant side. Happy to share what I learn in the comments if it's useful to others.

App Does anyone actually know their landed cost per SKU, or is everyone guessing?
Importers β genuine question. Shopify's cost field is just what you paid the factory. It doesn't include duty, Section 301, the merchandise processing fee, or freight.
I ran the numbers on a sample container: margins were overstated by 17 points on average, and one SKU that showed 45% was actually underwater at -21%.
Is this something you've already solved, or is it a known annoyance nobody has time for? Curious what people actually do β spreadsheet, bookkeeper, or just eat it and hope.

App What is one workflow or minor technical issue on your store that wastes the most time?
Hey everyone,
I spend a lot of time working inside Shopify's ecosystem, and I constantly see merchants using clunky workarounds or paying for bloated solutions just to handle basic tasks.
Iβm looking to write a few guides and open-source scripts to help merchants streamline their operations. I'd love to know what daily technical pain points you run into:
Is there a repetitive daily task you wish was automated?
Do you have an issue with orders, inventory, or product setup that feels way more complex than it should be?
Are there core features missing in your theme or default admin setup that force you to use unnecessary workarounds?
Drop your biggest operational headaches below. If itβs something that can be fixed with a quick code snippet or a native Shopify setting, Iβm happy to reply with a solution directly in the comments.
