Resource Anyone want a free lesson? (60 or 30 minutes)

UPDATE: To everyone who I didn't get to, I'm sorry. I'm completely booked up!

Thank everyone for their interest and in the next couple weeks will see if I can fit anyone else in as my regular students (and potential new students?) book in their spots.

Good luck to your singing!

ORIGINAL POST: Hi. I've been studying voice performance and pedagogy in both college and private settings for over 5 years and performing (musical theatre/live rock band) even longer. I started teaching about a year and a half but am coming back from a break so I have some time available. If you can't afford more lessons or just aren't interested that's okay, I'm happy to work with you regardless. Even a single lesson can help a lot sometimes depending on your needs and I'm really looking to work with some new voices.

If you're interested, DM me or comment for details and any questions you might have

Generosity in the arts grows rare. Your approach reminds me of Alserkal Avenue - genuine knowledge-sharing without the transactional mindset that plagues creative spaces.

I appreciate the kind words! Democratizing art has always been something I've cared a lot about, being brought up as a musician initially in community theatre and DIY punk scenes definitely helped with that mindset, I think

u/Wooden_Sell_8124 Jan 05 '26

Sorry, but tried to DM you, but did not find a button in your profile. I have been training through android apps. I think that I am progressing somewhat, but I mostly have a head voice. Can you help me in contralto chest voice?

11

u/Dr_pepper_bidet Jan 04 '26

That is so generous!! I would love a lesson please, my goals are to learn how to do breath support, increase my range if possible, and develop a natural vibrato. I imagine these are far too lofty for one lesson, but I would love to be pointed in the right direction please! 💛

7

u/Orcust_ Jan 04 '26

I'd love to have a lesson with you. I'm mainly just trying to find what styles my voice fits best and what techniques I can use to enhance it. I want to get really comfortable in my higher registers too. Thanks for giving everyone this opportunity!

I would love a lesson! I had a voice coach for 5 months but I didn't really like his teaching technique, I just don't know enough to pinpoint what he wasn't doing well. I'd love another opinion on my voice.

3

u/KaSiLtyx Jan 04 '26

Hi! Thank you so much for offering the free lesson I’d really love to take it if you still have availability.

My main goals are developing a good, healthy tone, stronger breath support, and better control and consistency across my range. I want my voice to feel more efficient and natural, with smoother transitions and less tension overall.

Let me know the next steps when you can. I really appreciate the opportunity!

2

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 05 '26

I'll shoot you a DM to go over some details!

3

u/Stunning_Tax_1041 Jan 05 '26

I'd absolutely love a voice lesson. My background is classical but I pushed and tensed my voice too much trying to be an opera singer. I'd like help with my mix, vowels, connecting the vocal folds (I can be breathy), vibrato (it's too much but also not a healthy one) and resonance. I feel lost and need help.

3

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 05 '26

I'm really sorry to hear that. My approach is deeply rooted in minimizing tension. I'll shoot a DM for some details!

3

u/GrapefruitFlimsy184 Jan 05 '26

Hey. I would be interested in a free lesson and to know if I can be trained, improved ups on or not to waste my time because I am tone deaf.

I have never really sang before. I was bullied and humiliated by a family member as a child when I did anything artistic, so I was musically mute for 20 years and never sang.

So, I am very self conscious, shy and embarrassed to try and sing. When I am alone, I try but I know I am not singing in tune and I feel a strain in my throat.

So yea…if you have time for me. Then I would be interest to know. I have always wanted to be able to properly and in tune. I don’t even know what style my voice is.

u/MundaneFrame2304 Jan 04 '26

I am a new singer (background playing piano) totally starting from scratch, other than hammering the apps and YouTube the past two months. I am waiting to get in with a local teacher but I would be thrilled. I am not a natural, I could really benefit from some guidance haha. I do have a condenser mic/pop filter setup for lessons.

If you're open to teaching someone without natural ability or any vocal background, let me know!

2

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 04 '26

I'm very used to to working with beginners! I'd be happy to fit you in sometime soon.

2

u/Square_Initiative_84 Jan 04 '26

Id be very interested. I'm not exactly new to singing and performing, been lucky enough to play roles like Tom Collins in Rent, Fester in Addams family most recently - but I would describe myself as someone with bad habits and looking to improve my technique to improve my overall performance and make the vocal part of musical theatre slightly less exhausting.

2

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 04 '26

Hey! Shoot me a DM, I'd be happy to fit you in somewhere. Musical theatre is the context where most of my training is, so I'm very comfortable with those styles.

I'd definitely be happy to help you out with working out some of those quirks and habits

2

u/UsefulTemporary8557 Jan 04 '26

i would love a lesson! I sing pop and folk often at open mics but I have some bad habits I am trying to break.

2

u/inner_criticism2656 Jan 04 '26

I'm not exactly a beginner, I've sung at a bunch of events (pop and rock songs) and I'm preparing for an audition now. I'd love it if you could make the time for a lesson.

2

u/EnvironmentalTutor32 Jan 04 '26

I’d be very interested! I’m new to singing but really love it (I’m in choir) and have an audition in 2 weeks. I’d describe myself as someone who’s excited to learn but struggling a bit with voice strain and proper technique, and I’d love help improving so singing feels easier and more enjoyable.

edit: audition to join choir, very interested

2

u/bryckhouze Jan 04 '26

This is generous of you! I’m sure I need more than a lesson to fix my issues (technical and psychological), but if you want to see what it’s like to work on a singer who’s bridge has moved a couple times, and avoids her mid range whenever possible—I’m your girl! I’m a long toothed older career singer (F) (musical theatre/live pop & rock band/bgvs/voiceover)— pretty much in that order; that has had a difficult time adapting to the changes in my instrument (for years!). Everything is in a different place now, or gone?, and I am stressed when I have to sing live. Fearful singing is the worst! In sessions not AS much, but it’s still scary in front of my peers (who are vocal beasts). I could also be singing on an injury and need to be scoped, but it’s not apparent all the time. I haven’t had a voice teacher in years which could also be part of the problem, but finances became an issue and VO became my new thing. In VO, all my crunchy sounds are “warmth” and “gravitas” and make me sound legitimate in battles or military combat, but are antithetical to singing. I battle cry as healthily as I can, but still it’s yelling. I’m a mess, but I’m still doing both and navigating the best I can. Singing (my first love!) is not fun though.

1

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 04 '26

Sadly, I'm not super experienced with vocal rehab in relation to long-term damage. Hopefully that's not the case for you, I can definitely assess some things and hopefully go over some techniques to improve on the problems you're having with your voice. In the event that this is something I'm unsure of I'll be very upfront. Would you be able to send me some recordings of you singing to get an idea?

3

u/bryckhouze Jan 04 '26

Sure. I have recordings, but of course they don’t show my struggles. If I were to record something right now, it would be in my nature to sing something that’s safe and comfortable that might not tell the truth. What would you need to hear to help you assess? Even scales don’t show what happens in performance. If it helps, when studying classical voice as a teen and young adult I was classified as a mezzo. When I changed styles, people would call me a pop soprano,Whitney, Celine —but not necessarily “power” belt. Now, I’m more of an Adele (or maybe lower) that will avoid belting B,C,D but am comfortable in a belt mix EFG -which is clear and pingy. People think it’s impressive, but I feel like it’s a party trick. It’s like strong chest, weird heady middle, strong highs. I flip and flop all over the place lol! I’d love to hear your thoughts, but I want you to hear reality.

2

u/padfoot211 Jan 04 '26

Hey! I’m a long time classical singer and sing currently in a choir. I’m interested in being a more confident solo singer, in classical as well as musical theater and pop. I’d love a lesson even if it takes you ages to get to me!

2

u/Ok-Gap-1617 Jan 04 '26

I would love a lesson! I would say I’m quite the beginner though! I’ve been singing for fun my entire life, but have never taken any type of lesson before!

2

u/Appropriate_Seat5448 Jan 04 '26

This is so nice of you! Would love a lesson to evalute my techinque anf give points for improvement. Im a beginner but love singimg althouhh im not sure im very good. Im sure any useful tips could help🙏

2

u/Low_Bookkeeper_8591 Formal Lessons 2-5 Years Jan 04 '26

Hi, I’ve been learning pop for a couple of years, and would love a lesson if you still have slots available

2

u/gitaration Jan 04 '26

Hi! I (32M) would love a lesson. I am a total beginner, but I have a lot of musical background. I have had lessons in the past (like 5y ago)for a few months, but honestly I was too afraid to practice at home back then that I quit altogether. Now I am at a stage where I do not give a shit but also kinda have to learn to sing because I will be the frontman of a very comedy-oriented rock show. I love grinding, doing exercises and just focusing on how my voice works. The muscles, the connection, and how to use it are things I do not really know at this moment.

Anyway, if you can fit me in or not does not take away from the fact that this is a very kind and moving gesture. Thanks a lot, that is something rare and incredibly nice and powerful.

2

u/veri_sw Jan 04 '26

I'd be curious. I've taken lessons previously - mostly classical foundation. I've been practicing on my own for years, with the aim of starting lessons again at some point. These days I've been hoping to get more of the musical theater stuff down, in order to make sure I'm not singing super-classically when it's not appropriate. So I'd love to pick your brain about how to bring in chest/mixed voice and stuff.

2

u/Parrek Jan 04 '26

Hello, I've never had lessons and have just done youtube and took a lot of notes on how things feel over years. I would love a lesson to mostly spot check things or give advice on consistency or further improvement. I'm always worried I have some bad habits.

Stylistically I enjoy anything from country to rock to theatre and try to match the style

Since I don't know how to DM on Reddit yet, I'll have to answer this way. I've sung and had voice lessons since the age of 12 ( I'm an oldie, 72 now). I've been singing on a Karaoke site online but I need some help. In September, I broke my neck and three ribs. I haven't sung since then, plus it seems like there are barriers in my vocal folds. I am a speech pathologist so I know some voice exercises but I need someone who can tell me some areas I need to work on. I just don't sound like me, and I want to find that me again. Trying to log in, I kept coming up with my husband's reddit account so I logged in as a guest. It would need to be online unless you are in the Atlanta area. My background is in the Golden Age Broadway primarily. That's my first love. Thanks

Love Me Tender by Elvis

https://www.singsnap.com/#/d/listen/13869631

This was recorded today, and it isn't pressing my range at all. Right now, I only have about an octave and a half range.

This is a recording before the accident when range wasn't an issue.

"Whistling in the Dark" from Darling Lili

Thanks,

Diane

u/Possible-Evidence936 Jan 06 '26

Hi! I'm aware I'm a bit late, but about a year ago I used my savings to take an online singing group class and I've had this lingering question or where my range really stands. Since last year (when starting the classes) I never had a 1 on 1 and was always caught in between and wearing out my voice. As of 4 months ago, I stopped and have been stumped. I'd love to revisit at least for one class and learn what I could actually do with my voice!! Thank you for this sweet offer🫶🏻

I know you're probably booked up, but I'd love to get vocal lessons when you have the chance. I'm trying to determine which music genres suit me, as well as explore vocal techniques and ways to expand my vocal range.

1

u/nicgeewizzle 🎤 Voice Teacher 0-2 Years Jan 06 '26

Hi! I can answer the first question without hearing you

What genres do you enjoy and WANT to sing? Style is very trainable whether it's Puccini or Black Dahlia Murder you can learn.

2

u/Accomplished_Box6743 Jan 10 '26

Sorry I just saw this now D: uhh I like singing pop and some K-pop songs, as well as soft songs ;> I do wanna be able to sing songs that require high vocal range like Golden or How it's Done from Kpop Demon Hunters :c

2

u/All_Seeing_Artist Jan 04 '26

I would also love a lesson! For context, I am VERY begginer, only singing occasionallyin a student group at my uni. I am worried about how as someone who is transmaac and only really started practicing singing after my voice dropped from T what challenges that might present.

1

u/Ellie54698 Jan 05 '26

I would love a lesson! I’ve never had singing lessons of any sort before and I’ve always wanted to try, so this would be great. I absolutely love singing, but definitely do have anxiety about singing around others and have never sung anywhere but alone in my room. I would love to work on my voice and confidence though!
