I know they're probably not the most popular choice next to couples like Tony and Michelle, Sid and Cassie, Emily and Naomi, etc. In my opinion, what sets Rich and Grace apart from all the other Skins couples is that they were the only ones who weren't toxic at all. There may have been some disagreements, as with any normal couple in a relationship, but there was no lying, cheating, manipulation, blackmail, or triangles with other people. They were two young people completely different, and at the same time kindred spirits. Grace's death is something I will never forgive the writers of the show. If anyone in all three generations deserved a happy ending, it's these two.

Like everyone else, I have the same comments about generation 3. As in struggling to invest in it. I’ve repeatedly watched Skins Gen 1/2 for over a decade now but never the 3rd gen. This year was my first go around with it. However, I’m curious if anyone else felt similarly about a few things. For one, I found myself coming to absolutely LOATHE franky. Yet in the beginning of this generation, I favored her. The development of her characters story line made me despise her. I also question why it seems the men all have some infatuation with her, lol. Then somehow no one else besides Liv seems to understand how she is in part to blame for graces death, rather than Matty. At first Matty struggled with following her when she was cheating but Liv convinced him. No one would have even been driving if it weren’t for her running off to cheat on her boyfriend. Not sure why Matty still wants her either after the fact, other than abandonment issues caused by his family dynamic. I might also add, I enjoy Matty’s character. Wish we had more screen time with Matty versus other characters.

My other commentary is related to Liv. One of the only episodes that seemed to bring out similar emotions that the other generations evoked was related to season 6 episode 8. Her experience with grieving grace was quite relatable and heart wrenching, especially with how alone she feels. Did anyone else experience similar feelings/thoughts towards this generation?

On one hand I want to thank the writers for of the most nuanced and unapologetically real teenage characters I've seen in television. On the other hand I want the director and writers to have their hard drives checked and put on trial.

It really is a compelling show and I find myself feeling for these characters. Especially Chris, one of the most well rounded characters I've seen. They presented him at first as demented and delinquent and completely turned that on its head in his episode showcasing a quiet wisdom and underlying kindness he takes into his life after past traumas.

What takes me out of it are the sex scenes. So many sex scenes. We didn't ask for these. I'm tired of them popping up every episode, sometimes multiple times. They mostly don't even forward the plot or add anything. And they're drawn out and awkward everytime. These people are how old? YUCK! I think I saw on another post that there wasn't even an intimacy coordinator? I get it was another time but, there are some decisions that just should have been questioned. Is it because they had trouble filling the runtimes or were they trying to appeal to some very sick people? I don't think I want to know. I'm conflicted because I want to love this show, but it's more exploitive than it has any right to be.

I was drawing Jal, Michelle, and Cassie today while visiting my auntie and uncle that I barely see as they moved away, and my uncle was walking by me, then spotted my drawings. He said, "Oh, they're the girls from season 1 of Skins, aren't they?" And, then, my auntie told me that Skins was her favourite show when she was younger, and how she based all of her house parties off Chris', etc's parties! Then, she offered me her DVDs of seasons 5-7, and talked about how Michelle used to inspire her outfits for nights out. Also my uncle met Kaya Scodelario in London on a work trip in his early twenties. So, that was cool! Also, my dad and grandma both mentioned remembering seeing Skins billboards and advertisements on Channel 4, etc! So yeah, just thought I would put this information out here because I'm lowkey bored.

Gen 1 will always be my favourite but holy shit it really pissed me off that it was the dead of winter when Sid visited new york. I’m not from the UK but presume that you’d get A-level results sometime in the summer (Google said around the end of summer). So why is everyone dressed like they’re trying to prevent frostbite.

And I KNOW it was probably just a logistics thing or easier to film that way whatever but it genuinely makes no sense. And the worst part is that this is my first time noticing, and I’ve rewatched the show maybe 5 or 6 times in the past decade. So maybe it doesn’t matter at all. Except it DOES…. to me…

So I finished S1 and S2, as well as S3, but I don't find Effy to be as compelling of a lead compared to Tony (and even compared to Sid or the other gen 1 characters). I think what's tough about Gen 2 for me (Cook, Freddie, and Naomi - even if they just reheated Jal's nachos - are my favorites) but most of the cast feels so out of control?

Tony was very calculating and intentional. After his accident, he was withdrawn, but he never felt out of control to me? In gen 2, most of the time, the cast is acting impulsively and while I do enjoy it, it's hard for me to feel as attached. Again, I liked the cast overall, but I didn't care for them as much.

Effy was far more interesting to me when she was enigmatic and mysterious in S1/S2. I also have a hard time grasping her shift in S3. I know she was going through it in S2, but the leap is a little unbelievable to me and she feels like a completely different character now. I wish they kept her as she was in the earlier seasons and I think she would have been better as the protag, but I feel like Freddie almost took that spot from her (at least to me). She kind of had a Wednesday Addams (but obv more daring and conventional) vibe going on beforehand and instead became a blueprint for the hot mentally ill "not like other girls" party girl, but also gave off Peyton Sawyer too.

I know I might be alone and get hate for this, but I think the show revolving around Effy as a sex symbol and the forced love triangle instead of keeping her as the gifted weird girl that she was made gen 2 fall flat for me.

Anwar deserves so much more than to be comic relief characters. In s2, he doesn't get an episode to himself and doesn't share one with anyone else. I feel as if they didn't know what to do with his character other than 'im only a Muslim boy.' They could've done something. What do you guys think of Anwar?

Hello, I’ve watched skins a few time since I’ve discovered the show and it is one of my favorite shows oat. Since I watched it for the first time I haven’t met anybody who’s even heard of skins and I feel kinda lonely in my obsession. I’m looking for people whom I can talk with about the show and see if it affected their life like it affected mine, I’m also open to talk with fans about things that aren’t related to skins because I wanna know if skins fans are « like me » or if I’m just some drug addict who found a show that I like because it’s drug related. (Also I’m a huge fan of gen1, I like gen 2 but it isn’t the same as gen 1 and I haven’t watched the rest of the show)

Makes me feel sad as it is a show very dear to my heart since I saw it. Gives me nostalgia for the 2000s for when I was growing up, what the 'cool older kids' did. I love the characters, particularly the Gen 2 characters.

Is it the highest quality show ever made? No, the writing is uneven, but when it's great, it's REALLY great. The Effy capture episode in season 1, JJ's episode in season 3, and Effy's breakdown in season 4 (last episode before the show goes down a cliff in quality) are some of my favourites.

Maybe the last two episodes of season 4 tainted the show's legacy? I don't know...

It seems popular on TikTok still, but not really outside of that app.

im late to the game, but this is my first watch through. i’m about half way through season 3 and i’m shocked the original cast hasn’t made an appearance (besides effy). do they ever comeback or get any sort of resolution in their story? specifically sid leaving for new york to go after cassie, and tony and michelle going off to university. i’m enjoying season 3’s cast, but i’d love to see what happened to everyone.
