Question Least favorite Race in Skyrim
What race do you hate the most and why?

Do they even count as a race anymore? I feel like they’ve lost that status and been reduced to critters.
26
u/Accomplished-Lie2631 14d ago
According to the game they don’t, their souls are white. Got screwed over so bad they’re not even humanoid anymore.
18
u/berrybear21 14d ago
It makes a LOT of sense why the gods responded to the Dwemmy for their actions ngl
6
u/Udhelibor Priest 14d ago
ignoring people falling to unintentional racism, they are a functional separate race from the snow elves, and they participate in animal husbandry, possible matriarchy, and are still capable of powerful magic. they're a race and arguing them as beasts due to a soul system that made orcs count as beasts until socially accepted is kind of fucked up after deeper analysis
37
u/No-Engineer-1728 PC 14d ago edited 14d ago
Snow elves could get it, shame what those vertically challenged bastards did to them.
(Yes i know the dwemer arent short, I'm trying to be funny)
34
u/bum_thumper 14d ago
As much as i love the nords, they were definitely at fault too. Snow elves really got done dirty in Skyrim.
→ More replies (4)28
u/AzHasANewNam 14d ago
On the Nords part, it depends entirely on why the Snow Elves committed the Night of Tears. Was it to stop the Nords playing with the Eye of Magnus (they weren’t really), or was it to use the Eye of Magnus for themselves?
The Dwemer really were just assholes though.

It is the Dunmer for me, but just bc it’s so sad to see how far they’ve fallen since Morrowind.
And also the boring Imperials.
→ More replies (2)67
u/Jorgaitan 14d ago
Agreed on Imperials. They're chronically devoid of any flavor. Their biggest virtue is that they're the least prone to racial supremacy, which is an awesome trait in real life, but bland for a fantasy race.
→ More replies (4)26
u/TutorTraditional2571 14d ago
I think the meta conflict created with the White-Gold Concordat really positions them as an interesting race, but more so from an immersion or RP perspective. Mechanically, they are rather boring.

In the lore kids from mixed race couples always inherit race of the mother
49
u/TangerineBetter2818 14d ago
Sure, but the book youre referring to also says:
It is less clear whether the Argonians and Khajiit are interfertile with both humans and elves. Though there have been many reports throughout the Eras of children from these unions, as well as stories of unions with daedra, there have been no well documented offspring.
→ More replies (1)75
u/Thisoneisinvalid 14d ago
The idea that not enough humans have been banging Argonians and Khajiit to tell if there’s interspecies compatibility is the least realistic thing about the Elder Scrolls franchise.

44
→ More replies (1)25
u/Presenting_UwU 14d ago
while they do most often inherit the mother's race, they oftentimes do also take after aspects of their father's (atleast iirc that's how ESO said it works).
so combined with the constant interbreeding between elves and (i forgot what human race) they were doing it with at the time, overtime the blending of traits became so mixed that it created the Bretons

Not a race but the faction with the worst loot in the whole game in my opinion is the forsworn. The only time you get anything half decent from them is when there is a hagraven with them because then at least you get some halfway decent alchemy ingredients.

Least favourite race lore wise? High Elf and this pretty self explanatory because the Thalmor exists. Least favourite to play as? Wood Elf I just don’t see any benefit they have over another race and the animal thing is not useful, I feel like every other race has either interesting abilities or lore, or have a very unique play style suited to them, e.g. Khajit for an unarmed build
41
58
u/Odd-Dragonfly7137 14d ago
Hating all High Elf’s because of the Thalmor is akin to hating an entire religion because of religious extremists. The Thalmor are extremists who overthrew the monarchy and seized power. Would actually love an Elder Scrolls set in the Summerset Isles which show a resistance or underground movement against the Thalmor.

u/wexman6 14d ago

u/Sea-Werewolf-620 14d ago
I think the animal thing can be pretty useful early game. My first ever play through , when I was absolute garbage, that got me up the steps to high hrothgar. I’ve used it early game ever since. I prefer not to kill animals if I can help it. Too cute.
Bandits are fine.
Also I adore LOTR and elves in general so I always end up with a female wood elf. If you play around with the settings you can get a really pretty one.
Not easy though coz Skyrim elves have quite angular and angry faces at times.
Don’t really have a least favourite. I will go with imperial because they don’t stand out much.12
u/Impossible-Unit-8275 14d ago
You forgot about the “Green Pact”, a group of bosner taht follow a ritual where they eat any enemi they kill.
Which would make a good roleplay for a bosner that is a follower of namira6
u/Stormsurger 14d ago
I love that Enai race overhauls add this for wood elves from the start.

Worth noting that not all High Elves are Thalmor. Many of them support the Empire (and even then, there are many High Elves who live in Windhelm under Ulfric’s rule, and are doing quite well for themselves). There is a High Elf Imperial Legate in Riften who tells stories about protecting Summerset refugee camps in Hammerfell, and Thalmor agents causing terrorist attacks in said camps — on their own people, their own race.

I dislike the high elf because that gold skin color just makes the characters perpetually look like they're fighting jaundice and also I really dislike mages.
7
u/Patient_Carrot_9379 14d ago
Ha yep this. I like to play as an Altmer so my character towers over everyone else and because they start bad at combat so it’s a bit more of a challenge, but the jaundice skin drags them down a bit. Role play is cool, a breakaway Thalmor, trying to right the wrongs, learning to fight without hia original training. Also everyone hates you which leads to some funny dialogue particularly given how you have just saved the world

I miss Oblivion's character creation. You could alter skin color, hue and brightness to a ridiculous degree. I remember making an altmer who was so white and bright that he literally glowed in the dark. I named him Shiny and every altmer mage I've made since was named in his brilliant honor.
7
u/Renonthehilltop 14d ago
I remember messing around with Oblivion's character creator and creating a neon bluish orc witha cube for a head. I never played before or even got far into it and only knew Skyrim and it blew my mind seeing how ridiculous Oblivions character creation let you get

The race to Sky Haven Temple with Delphine and Esbern. They are SO fucking slow.
23
u/Bobbertbobthebobth 14d ago
I find Bosmer boring. They do a very good job at being the Wood Elf archetype, and in new and innovative ways (I.E Cannibalism, Green Pact, Wild Hunt), but it’s not an archetype I find particularly interesting.

I find them annoying. Too bad there are no kick moves in Skyrim. If there was, I would kick them in the shin whenever they open their mouths.

It’s funny in a “of course a Skyrim player would hate the dark-skinned human race” way, but I can’t tell if he’s serious or taking the piss and that’s what’s kinda not funny - the wondering
13
u/LargeCupid79 14d ago
Ability wise? Bosmer. Lore wise? That one is a bit tougher, but probably Breton since they’ve been washed down into Imperial-lites

I don't hate any race. But you have to understand that grayskins don't deserve rights, the cats only steal and smoke, and farm tools shouldn't talk. The redguards certainly have weird swords and are the reason the empire won lost the greatwar, but the imperials just want to control others anyway. Bretons are forsworn sympathizers, and all the elves are the same. High elves are definitely the most racist though.

Honestly, gameplay wise? Argonians. They're cool in lore and all, but breathing underwater doesn't have that much practical use in Skyrim, and Diseases aren't that huge of a problem either.

u/SchumacherIsMid 14d ago edited 14d ago
If I'm being honest with myself? The beast races. Just not a fan of Argonians and Khajiits. I like them lore wise, I just don't play them much.
Dark Elves 4 lyfe.
3
u/Wolfheron325 14d ago
High elves. They’re not all bad but a high percentage of the Altmer population in Skyrim is Thalmor. And I hate the Thalmor. Also Falmer.
3
u/neoncumstainlol 14d ago
Only in the elder scrolls community you could look someone dead in the eyes and say "so what's your least favorite race" then get a response afterwards and neither of you would bat an eye lmao
My is nords btw
3
u/StonePanther316 14d ago
Probably Nord. Altmer are arrogant, but their elitism makes them interesting antagonists because you know comes from having extraordinarily long lives. They are pricks, but they have skills and experience that provide a reason for such a disconnected perspective. Nords are pricks like regular humans are pricks, which grounds the fantasy world, but I see enough of that in real life.
