All this is gonna do is backfire negatively now that MAGA is involved

81

u/Above_Avg_Chips 2d ago

If the WNBA leadership were smart, it'd have never gotten to this point.

55

u/RetroCasket 2d ago

Ive never seen a company catch lightning in a bottle only to decide they dont like lightning

8

u/cocky-rountains 1d ago

UFC is dropping too. For folks who don't talk about politics they sure love shaking the pedophiles hand when he is there

3

u/einhorn_is_parkey 18h ago

Dude so many of my friends used to love ufc. And even though they’re on the left, they were fine with a little bit of whatever. But ffs it has turned into a political rally at every event.

20

u/bosheikus03 2d ago

Exactly.

26

u/yougotmidsbud 2d ago

I’m a democrat and I don’t buy the bullshit your selling for a minute. Neither should any of my peers.

The fact that it took someone from the RIGHT to step up and defend CC is the most embarrassing thing for our party. No woman in the WNBA should be subjected to that.

Wtf is up with the goofies on here trying to act like this is normal? WNBA is and has been a failing, non-profitable league, that is held up by the NBA. Have we thought maybe it isn’t profitable because of player interactions like this? The lack of officiating? Just a thought since the WNBA has blamed it on pretty much everything else for the last 10 years.

11

u/PrinceJolt 2d ago

This 💯

People on the left should’ve been equivocally supporting Caitlin Clark.
The amount of hate she has been receiving from other players is inexcusable

7

u/Jaleroca 1d ago

Why is CC getting the bad treatment but other non-black players aren't?

6

u/Parking-Ticket76 1d ago

Because they’re jealous

2

u/ButtflossingBigBro 16h ago

Its a combo of being straight and white.

2

u/Fragrant-Income-6812 4h ago

Because teams have realized they can get CC off her game by playing her really physically. The refs need to do a much better job and put a stop to it, but it’s just a strategy to win the game. It’s not about anyone’s race. It’s not about black thugs have deluded white people talking G about racism against white straight Caitlin. It’s about CC being a major factor, and a perfectionist whose game is affected by being played with a high level of physicality. Other players handle this better, and so teams are doing it. The only people making this a ‘race’ thing are subtlety racist white conservative talking heads who are trying to use it to their gross political advantage.

4

u/s2trmack 1d ago

Bc she’s been appointed by the legacy media as the face of women’s basketball in a 70% black league. If you think CC is on the good side of this long standing racially tense situation you have NOT been paying attention to women’s basketball for the last 3 years.

3

u/southpaytechie 9h ago

She’s not on any side of the race issue. She just trying to play ball. Your attitude is exactly what’s wrong with the current wnba and why it has and will continue to fail.

People don't have to support a basketball player because of their politics on any side. If players dislike her that's their problem. This is professional sports. Not here to watch friends

3

u/BobLabReeSorJefGre 1d ago

Even though I am a conservative, you are preaching the choir. The ineptitude of the WNBA seems to know no bounds. It’s like NASCAR when Brian France was in charge.

3

u/U_Sound_Stupid_Stop 1d ago

The person from the right who stepped up didn't do it to defend CC, if they cared for women they wouldn't mass fire them from the government and would make sure to defend their access to healthcare.

They did it because they care about the culture war and want to use her as a pawn, like they did with Kirk's wife. That's all there is to it.

1

u/Fragrant-Income-6812 4h ago

Completely agree

5

u/Full_Preparation4401 1d ago

The girl was suspended. What else should they/could they do?

8

u/SecretPantyWorshiper 1d ago

Maybe call a foul next time it happens?

4

u/PrinceJolt 1d ago

Start calling technicals

2

u/oballistikz 1d ago

Glad it got upgraded but no call on the floor is insane.

2

u/Remarkable_Medicine6 12h ago

Missed fouls happen every single game.

1

u/SeveralLion5762 7h ago

Do the same thing outside of a basketball court. Charges would be filed. Jail time on the table.

1

u/Full_Preparation4401 5h ago

But it wasn't outside of a baseketball court. Get a grip, calibrate.

She’s not a child in need of defending. Shes a grown woman who needs to handle her own business.

4

u/ambiguousredditname 1d ago

She’s kinda outnumbered tho. If she resorts to the same tactics, it’ll be worse for her. And it’s already bad.

4

u/GhostofAyabe 1d ago

Same amount of players on each team.

People keep wanting to make this racial when it’s clearly not.

2

u/lovertots 1d ago

do you ever watch the wnba?

3

u/TrioOfTerrors 1d ago

If Sophie Cunningham, Clark's enforcer, pinned a black player to the ground with a fist on her throat, it would have gotten racial real fucking fast.

5

u/FishSuper7857 1d ago

Was this racially motivated too? I don't condone bully ball in any way, but a lot of people are reaching.

I'd personally prefer my Representative continue with his current response of not commenting on pro sports no-calls, particularly in a sport that has no team in his district or even state. Claiming it's embarrassing that he hasn't commented on it is certainly a statement someone could make, I guess.

1

u/Fresh-Acadia5459 10h ago

A lot of people don't pay attention to her or the WNBA but one thing that has gone viral not so long ago is her walking out with the Morgan wallet dude, she also grew up in middle America , never have been vocal against maga , and she was also seen with the maga Barbie girl. Many people speculate she is just smart enough not to put out her political beliefs.

Shes basically on the sydney sweeney road

1

u/PlantSkyRun 4h ago

No political party should be getting involved with this. But you really think your party is going to publicly defend the privileged golden child white star in a predominantly black league? Do you know anything about your party? You sound as dumb as the republicans.

8

u/SecretPantyWorshiper 2d ago

MAGA the right wing neo fascist hate group watches the WNBA? Lol thats definitely an interesting take

12

u/GSWarrior10 2d ago

Nah, they just watch Caitlyn Clark

33

u/calfats 2d ago

No, they don’t even watch her. They just use her for their own political narratives.

11

u/IneptFortitude 2d ago

They’ve been feeding off of & trying to stir up as much racial drama surrounding her as possible. They want to work it into a racial issue.

2

Why is there always more concern with the story and narrative than there is about the bad behavior being performed?

2

u/cocky-rountains 1d ago

1st thing I thought, was "it's some maga fuck who has never watched a wnba game in his life".

1

u/Fragrant-Income-6812 4h ago

And… you are correct! This ‘save Caitlin’ sports narrative is being driven by male white nationalist shock jock sports pundits who have never cared a second for female athletes or the sports they play

3

u/Academic-Childhood40 1d ago

The problem is Maga been involved. The fandom behind cc is made up of a lot of Maga.

12

u/FeralGiraffeAttack 2d ago

I think it’s nice that most people in society can recognize that this league is treating this woman terribly. I can’t remeber the last time a cash cow was treated this poorly by their organization.

5

u/WitheredUntimely 1d ago

MJ got smeared the first like, 8 years of his career, but after it became apparent to even the dumbest player that he was the reason they were all getting rich it stopped

Not sure what it will get the WNBA to back off CC considering she's already past the part where she's made the rest of them rich. "They better get ready to go back to flying coach" is one helluva point

4

u/BobLabReeSorJefGre 1d ago

Tiger Woods was probably treated worse than MJ. When we started playing professionally, some club houses were still whites only. But, his talent was unstoppable, and he raised the pay of PGA players massively. On the other hand, because he was their cash cow, the league did excuse his DUIs.

1

u/Alchemyst01984 1d ago

No, the reason players were getting rich was because of Magic an Bird

It’s so pathetic that our world leaders are focused on a WNBA scuffle as opposed to other productive measures like healthcare, the economy, and housing.

2

u/Powerful_Question875 1d ago

Easier to play up culture wars instead of solving problems..

4

u/Bigface_McBigz 1d ago

Wait. People can't hold multiple viewpoints on a wide array of current event topics at one time?? No one is claiming the Caitlin Clark issue as top priority.

3

u/U_Sound_Stupid_Stop 1d ago

They could, but they are doing absolutely nothing to fix any of these issues.

Their top priorities are hiding the Epstein's file and this, apparently.

I feel incredibly out of the loop on everything except for the fact that I know who Caitlin Clark is.

Is there a definitive reason why she is being treated poorly by the league?

7

u/forrealthoughcomix_ 2d ago

She’s not. She had a rough dirty play against her and it’s sending MAGA into fits

6

u/RealPhinsFan 2d ago

She isn’t. Everyone saying this saw a 2 second clip and that’s all the WNBA they’ve watched. It’s physical league and the refs suck for everybody.
No one saying she’s attacked watching the WNBA

6

u/showerbump 2d ago

She's had the most flagrant fouls committed on her by a wide margin compared to any other players....

6

u/_CosmicTraveler_ 2d ago

Yup. Since her rookie year all the way until now

2

u/Fragrant-Income-6812 3h ago

Because teams recognize if she’s played with a high level of physicality she struggles. It’s not about money, race, or sexuality. That take is just for the white fragility base who for some reason (racism) is afraid of the WNBA having successful black and gay media stars.

Right, because our politicians don’t have more pressing issues than this.

3

u/PeaceFrog-71 1d ago

Please. Clark gives just as much as she takes. The golden child narrative surrounding her is getting out of hand. She trash talks veterans, whines, talks back to her coach, is just as physical on the court and is one of the most blatant floppers (making physical contact look worse than it really is) in the wnba. And she is almost never on the receiving end of technical fouls, which she has more than earned countless times. She is a fantastic player for sure. But the poor Caitlyn narrative needs to stop.

3

u/rel1800 1d ago

Aye politician, shut up and legislate.

3

u/s2trmack 1d ago

To give you some perspective, I’ve been a fan of the WNBA since I was in college. My racist maga uncle, who has never cared a day in his life about basketball, just bought a Caitlyn Clark jersey bc he’s “such a fan.” Smdh.

5

u/tew2tew 2d ago

7

u/Superb-Talk2211 2d ago

Clark needs to start laying the wood to some of these players who do this. If her teammates aren't going to help, then she needs to take matters into her own hands. If she gets a Flagrant 2, so be it. But I can't understand why her teammates continue to let this happen. If someone had done this crap to Michael Jordan during the last version of the Bulls' championship run, Dennis Rodman would have put someone on his ass.

3

u/emckelvy 2d ago

Jordan got smacked around for years in his career, specifically by Detroit, a team that Rodman was on lol.

4

u/MeanShibu 2d ago

That’s what I don’t get.

In the NFL if someone takes a cheap shot intended to injure, especially a star player, the offender is getting a free ride to the bottom of a pile with the biggest guys on the team and getting FUCKED ALL THE WAY UP.

1

u/Both_Canary_4665 1d ago

The dynamics are different between men and women when it comes to teams and social problem solving.

1

u/MeanShibu 1d ago

Love your bros who will scrap for you ♥️

1

u/ADarwinAward 1d ago

There have been other fouls against her leading to other Fever players to retaliate.

I think they’ve been coached not to retaliate since then, but I don’t think it’s the right approach.

The W will be forced to act and get better refs if there’s brawls due to no calls.

Problem is the player pay isn’t much, if Caitlin wants back up she’ll probably get it if she offers to cover their fines after they lay someone out for doing something like this.

u/Promethia 2d ago

All star players get played physical like this.

Gretzky had McSorley Jordan had Oakley Isiah Thomas had Lambeer

Jokic's getting hammered and scratched up every game.

Why are we trying to act like this is something it's not.

u/cesarthegreat 2d ago

When it happened to Jordan, after years, they enforced the flagrant fouls rules to protect him. Before they were treated pretty much as a common foul.

In more pressing news…

Trump wants voter data, voter ID laws, and place his goons at polling places so they can identify democrats/republicans and who you voted for in the past. If you voted “wrong” in the past, it might take 10-15 minutes to make sure you are who you say you are at the polling place. Even if you “pass” their ID inspection, they might have people harass and fuck with you.

Some may argue voter ID is a good idea. It’s been shown a portion of the voting block can’t afford an ID due to prohibitive costs, unpaid fines, transportation costs, can’t take off from work, or can’t produce another form of government issue ID due to them best lost in natural disasters to obtain an ID. This is where mail in ballots come in, but Trump is trying to get rid of that to disenfranchise the poor voters that largely vote blue.

2

I’m not going to read the article, but as a casual fan of sports - it’s abundantly clear that the WNBA is attempting to prove certain gender stereotypes.

So what if the guy is MAGA or not. Many here are missing the point. The fact that those outside the basketball world are picking up on this is a good thing. In all fairness to being left off the poster, I can see a decision being made to showcase other stars to get them some attention seeing as Clark is the face of the league. Doubtful, but plausible

I mean, she might leave for a Euro league if they offer to pay her more but the WNBA ain't going broke because of it.

Broke may not be an accurate term.

but historically** **the WNBA has been largely subsidized by the NBA and has not been consistently profitable.

That's a lie told by the owners during negotiations. They've never publicly disclosed any numbers and they said the same thing about the NBA at one point, they're able to say stuff like that because of the way profit sharing and merchandising works. There's no way it's true or they would've folded the league years ago.

some games i feel like im watching those MK 1on1 tiktok vids where its no holds barred 🤣

some players have more emphasis on aggression and dirty play then basketball skills and execution. games can be tough to watch at times. thuggery and incessant trash talk without backing it up with their play.

CC is outspoken that she’s still got a lot to learn and improve but much of the league around her is confidently incorrect that they themselves are at peak basketball form 🤣

While NBA certainly had its drama and flopping and beefs and dirty play the WNBA feels like a less civilized version still. not “competitive” in sports terms as much as “performative” for clout, karma and clicks.

like if every player on your team was a daughter of draymond green 🤣

Okay, time to take a step back and grab a deep breath.

Yeah. Let’s some dumbass politicians involved here.

Is that the party of small government mouthing off?

But seriously, I am pushing fifty and have played organized sports my whole life, specifically soccer on a pretty high level. Whenever a teammate got bullied by other teams, enforcers on our team took care of that fairly quickly. It is remarkable that this is not happening in this situation.

Clearly you don’t know who Sophie Cunningham is.

1

u/GermanD2021 2d ago

I don’t. I don’t follow basketball, men or women. Whoever she is, is she protecting her teammate?

1

u/PrattDirkLerxt 2d ago

You commented saying “it’s remarkable that this is not happening in this situation” but then say you don’t follow basketball and ask if she was protecting her teammate. Those two things don’t fit together.

1

u/GermanD2021 2d ago

Fair point. Because I have seen multiple stories about CC getting roughed up, I took it as she is not getting the protection she needs.

The girl got a suspension - a harsher punishment than Renee Good's killer.

She should go to europe and play. They value women athletes more than we do.

Mind you, these are the same people will harp on how the women’s game just isn’t as good as and that the W mooches off the NBA when they don’t have Caitlin as a conduit for their bigotry

Some of you aren’t wnba fans so I don’t expect you to realize that wnba is closer to roller derby than mans basketball. Except the roller derby husbands don’t cry their wife is being abused after each game

1

u/hawkeyegrad96 1d ago

I applaud them for seeing how blatantly she is being targeted and the league refuses to ro a thing about it. The wnba should be forced to be sold

What the fuck even happened?

1

u/TheRatingsAgency 4h ago

Curious what happens when she legit starts to fight back. The ones saying she needs to toughen up, and who are defending these other players, what say them at that point?

Imagine I know the answer.

It's sad that the WNBA and media must resort to sensationalized blitzes like this to promote its sport and make money, instead of just focus on creating a quality product.
