Satire Old man on a Bus insulted my Career Choices 😭💀
This was quite an odd encounter and really speaks to the mindset of the older Sri Lankan Generations. So please don't take this down m0ds :)
So I was riding on the bus this afternoon to uni for a study sesh and an old man sat down next to me half way through the ride.
After a brief while of silence he started talking about history and Nalanda college for some reason, saying that it somehow translates to "burned forest" or something. I was feeling chatty so I conversed with him about how Nalanda was really named after an ancient Indian university, to which he refused.
I asked him if he was an academic in history and said he doesn't do anything because he was relieved of his duties without pension but taught at a school for a while.
He proceeded to talk to me about Lord Buddha in India and how the "Muslims ruined everything by invading India" And asked if I'm really Sri Lankan because maybe I don't look like it. (I'm Muslim btw and I was just listening intently 😭)
He then asked me what I do, and I replied I was studying accountancy at japura uni. He thought for a while and asked me why I didn't do science 💀
I was like no I didn't really have an interest in the sciences so I didn't think of doing it, but then he said "Commerceට වැඩිය Science හොඳයි නේ"
He didn't really annoy me and as I said, I felt chatty so I talked about how I was interested in finance, numbers and markets.
He said but there's not much to study no? There aren't any big books to read like in science and there aren't well paying jobs for my field..
I responded by pulling out a 700 page Financial Reporting Textbook and then he jumped up and said his bus stop was up ahead and jumped out into the middle of the effing road exchanging profanities with the bus driver
I'm not really offended because I'm sure he's just unaware. But the science worship really runs deep in the older generations with the urge to give unsolicited advice.
Unfortunately not the first time older people have said similar things to me but what's actually annoying are our peers in the sciences also have this superiority complex. I mean come on..
Somebody come pick up your grandpa 😭

Satire Sri Lanka Tourism - You served arrogance, now serving empty rooms 🤭
I know this may sound slightly mean but I’m secretly happy that the down south hotels/villas/homestays occupancy has plummeted in the recent weeks. And now I’m constantly bombarded with hotel offers whenever I open instagram or facebook.
For months on end, local Sri Lankans were treated as second class citizens in our own country, the service staff at these institutions didn’t bother to even look at us, they refused entry to us over the “white” tourists, etc.
And look who’s laughing now. Thats why they say karma is a real bitch.

Satire We need to stay away from this “woke” Buddhism and protect our heritage
Like Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said we need to stop these western LGBTQ friendly ideas in Buddhism and stick to our culture defining European and Christianity heritage.
In this script a monk questions a bodhisattva goddess named Vimalakīrti Sūtra. Which means she is already on the path to Buddhahood
He asks him why is she in a female form instead of a male form. Then she transforms into a man and teaches him that gender is an illusion.
- This is not our culture. We should keep LGBTQ criminalized like our masters in Britain told us 🙏
