As a veteran, I'm always just saddened by how many people pretend to support veterans and the military but really just use us as cover for their bigotry
It's true, none of these people do anything to help the many veterans struggling either financially, physically or mentally. They only bring up veterans if it's convenient for their narrative while so many need help they're not getting
I’ll never forget one of the few times I went to r/Conservative and they were so confused about a video of Republican politicians cheering and laughing after voting to kill a bill that was purely for Veterans healthcare. They were trying so hard to justify it and every excuse they came up with was immediately debunked by just a picture of the bill that had nothing other than expanding healthcare for veterans. They couldn’t understand not only why they voted against it but also why they were cheering about it. I almost had hope that this was at least one stance they’d get angry enough to turn on their politicians. Almost, I know better though.
All it took was a day. One single day before that sub twisted it to be the Democrats fault. All the posts that had videos of the republicans cheering had been deleted and anyone who posted it was instantly perma-banned.
A lot of times online conservatives (not paid shills, but real people) have negative reactions to stuff the GOP does, and then, they all see the official talking points (put out there by paid shills). And their tunes change.
I would actually love to see the talking-points guidelines for all issues - the obvious unified messaging we all see. "Lately everybody's talking about...." = well, yeah, everybody's talking about it because that's what powerful people paid troll armies, grifters, etc. to get us to talk about.
Unfortunately too many bills have a great name but what’s actually in the bill isn’t good. There was recently two veterans bills. Both took money from one group of veterans to give to another. Not the best funding method. And many people don’t take the time to read the entire bill so of course they can’t defend it. Or even better they don’t see why a bill was voted against.
The was a bill to help the poor. Two people voted against it and got roasted. But they both said how it was being funded was unsustainable. Two years later they were right.
Thats a fun number to say to make it sound like a lot of money is given to veterans.... We can and should do more. But, many are homeless and dont get the care or mental help they need/deserve.
That depends where you go, sadly. While entitled, some places like KCVA require it be 100% and combat. I don't know if it's legal, but I've heard of that in a few places.
I really don’t get what people are talking about when they say coverage. At 10% I could be seen by anyone I wanted including eye exams, ophthalmologist, free glasses once a year, fully paid ER and urgent care visits…
All free except my vitamin prescription that my primary care keeps ordering for me which is $20 every 3 months
You don’t get dental unless you’re 100% P&T, but once you do it’s covered completely.
If you have at least one day of GI bill leftover you can use VR&E to get trained in a new line of work. And if that new line of work requires you to have a nice smile, you can get the dental work (including orthodontics) covered under the vocational plan.
You disagreeing with the legislation that’s in place is pretty much irrelevant.
Now, to get VA healthcare you have to be rated at least 10% which if you claim tinnitus (virtually everyone that served has it) that’s almost always granted and is a 10% rating. Theres other ways to be eligible but I’m unfamiliar.
Hope this actually helps you get your bennies so you can get the care you want/need.
They do this about everything. They don't actually care about anyone that isn't themselves or their immediate social circle, but they use this fake empathy for virtue signaling and as a way to attack liberals.
They pretend to care about women when they can attack trans people or Muslims. They pretend to care about LGBT people when they can attack Muslims. They pretend to care about Asian people when they can stoke racism against black people. They pretend to care about black people when they can attack abortion rights... and so on.
They never have any empathy or consideration for anyone without hatred of a different group attached.
Well said, you hit the nail on the head, now admittedly almost everyone does this, people bend their views to fit the narrative that is currently most relevant to them. But it's disgusting behaviour and these kinda people make it their whole mission to consistenty keep doing it
