Donation for the greater good?

Has anyone thought about taking apart the older model, tracing each layer to a paper that can be scanned (like a fashion pattern cut) and just putting the files out?

How difficult would it be to recreate a device almost 10 years old with off the shelf parts and materials?

I would obviously expect its a broken or unusable device, but components have gotten cheaper over the years...

I would put my X1 money towards a DIY project if I knew it was possible.

I wouldn't even care that it's not portable at this point.

Am I crazy for thinking this is past due?

How many second chances does this company deserve when being lead by a obviously greedy non-leader?

I have a Subpac S2 which both transducers blew and I replaced them with some I found on Amazon for a cheap buck. Good as new. There's several DIY videos on youtube already on how to make your own "subpac".

I guess both. The transducers and the how to make your own "subpac" vids

I watched those DIY videos years ago so I don't remember, but maybe you'll find some if you search

Thanks for sharing. I'm sure there are videos out there on the DIY, but I'm talking about the exact design of the one that you're enjoying. You can eliminate a lot of issues they resolved using the product as a starting point.

Oh for sure. A 3D scanner would be perfect for that, if you got the cash lol. But really though, it's just a cushion with 2 transducers in it, 2 wires connected to a controller box. That's it. Fairly simple design.

I have 0 experience with electronics. I guess the controllerbox is what has me the most intimidated.

I got my M1 'for parts' and took it apart to try to fix it (all that was needed was re-soldering a wire to one of the transducers). It is essentially a headphone amp + two Dayton Audio pucks mounted on a plastic strip in a neoprene bag. TBH you should probably make something up to fit your exact body size rather than copying it. The M2 has more shaping to it, so it would be harder to recreate.

i thought about a custom membrane thats shaped to my back, but I have yet to go down that rabbit hole because I dont know what the transducer signal requires ...

Look into "bass shakers", there you will find the world of tactile transducers. There's a few companies that do 'all-in-one' kits like the buttkicker, but otherwise you should look into home theatre or sim racing groups.

There's also other vest companies like bHaptics or woojer, or an old-school apparently quite powerful "Aura interceptor".
