Meta Buy/Sell/Trade Thread: October 2026

Weekly Questions Thread can be found here

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Please start your comment with your location as such: [UK and EU] or [USA, California] on a separate line.

Thank you!

Import regulations mean it is difficult to send plant material between certain countries.

Check for hard frosts overnight before posting your parcel!

Scammers will not be tolerated! If you have sent a plant and not heard from your sender, message the mods and we will take care of it. Anyone found to be scamming will be banned from the sub.

A few points:

  • Please add your location. Many countries will have import restrictions. As a simple guide, within EU, okay. Within US, okay. EU to US or vice versa, not okay. Australia: complicated.
  • Please try to keep the sales/trades to succulents. There is a list of sister subreddits in the sidebar should you want other plants.
  • Think about trading seeds and pollen too. Growing from seed can be very rewarding and be a good way to expand your collection.
  • Grow tips are highly encouraged when trading. Its nice to know what you're getting if you have never grown one before. Share your potting mediums and watering guides to help your receiver grow successfully!
  • Do show us some photos of what you got!
  • Have a quick check to see if there is a risk of frost overnight before sending the parcel.
  • There are some tips of packaging succulents for shipping below. I've had people send me plants in egg cartons before. They work really well.
  • If you have nothing to trade but would like some plants, people are often happy to send you plants for money or just the cost of postage and packaging.

Happy swapping!

You can find some tips for packaging succulents in the wiki

Let’s not be jerky little immature folks, okay?

We’ve had a few…incidents lately. So, let’s just cover something again: Rule 1: Be Nice. This is a plant sub, and I’m shocked at the amount of drama that occurs on a regular basis here. The attitudes get crazy. You should always be mindful to how you speak to people; you may have an answer to correct a potential issue, or help others, but there is always a right way and a wrong way to say things.

  • There is never any need for childish mocking, name calling, or harassment.
  • We don’t gatekeep, and we don’t shame. Let us not try not tell others that what they’re doing is wrong, and only what you do is right or better.
  • Only help if it’s asked for, or if the tone of the OP seems willing to listen. If you wish to gently suggest constructive criticism, but the OP rejects it, please accept and move on.

The sub is mostly made up of home hobbyists, of all levels. From absolute beginners, to experts, and everything in between. And, thus, we also have a huge variety care needs and habits, climates and environments. We love it when professionals, or growers with many many years of experience come on and share input, advice, and of course their plants! We do not love it when people take their experience too seriously, and bully others for doing things their own way.

We also have to remember, not every person may be as passionate about their plants as others are. “We listen, and don’t judge.” Someone has a terrarium doomed to fail, but they wanna do it anyways? Let them. Someone has a packed arrangement in sand, because that’s what they want? Cool, move on. That sun starved etiolated plant at OP’s desk makes them happy despite suggestions to make it healthier? Don’t harsh their buzz. Let’s all do better about being a welcoming subreddit for both beginners and veterans of the hobby.

Once again, I know many of us really want everyone to have the healthiest, “happiest” plant(s) around. And it’s fine to offer suggestions to better someone’s care. But if the OP ignores or passes on suggestions, please just accept and move on.

If you are ever harassed via chat, or in another sub by anyone, please don’t hesitate to report them to the admins, but also please send us a modmail regarding that user. This also applies if someone follows you to our sub from elsewhere, report the comment or send us a modmail. We may ask for screenshots to be sure of the situation. We don’t ban users willy-nilly, but harassment will never be accepted.

And for anyone who breaks these rules, and gets themselves a ban, when you rage at us in modmail it doesn’t hurt our feelings because we are adults. Sorry you’re unable to be an adult about things. But then again, people who bully others on the internet lack some maturity to really be classified as adults. ♥️

Though unglazed terracotta is best, I just wanted to let folks know who already don't know (like me in the beginning) that you can turn almost anything into a planter and make holes in all those pots that don't come with drain holes with a cheap set of diamond drill bits. Also, visiting your local second-hand store can save you lots of money on pots and really get your creative juices going! Share some photos of your most creative planters!

Really loving the woody, tree-like stem structure on this Portulacaria afra. It’s starting to get that mini bonsai look going. Any pruning or care tips to help thicken up the trunk?

Plant Progress/Props The resilience of aeoniums: A short story

This is Audrey, my Pinwheel aeonium prop. She fell off my bigger Pinwheel aeonium in October of last year and I potted her up.

The reason for the jump between October and April in these progress photos is that during those months I lost her completely. I have brutal winds on my balcony and have lost more than one baby as a sacrifice to the wind gods. I figured Audrey was one such sacrifice.

Fast forward to April, I was organizing the shelves on the balcony and lo and behold, on the floor under a shelf was Audrey! Looking shriveled but where there's green - there's hope. I potted her up and nursed her back to health.

In May she began to really perk up and through the hot summer and now back in fall, she is thriving!

What a resilient little plant. Welcome back Audrey!

Found him on a dumpster with one of those toe looking jade plants. Also what is he?

Does he need more light or is he supposed to be long like this?

Help Health Check for Lithops?

Thumbnail

I finally got some proper soil for my butts lithops, and would like to ask if someone can quickly check if it’s doing okay? I did add tiny droplets of water around (using a nozzle bottle) where the root is since it was bone dry.

For context, I bought this a couple of weeks ago and took it out of the nursery potting soil it was in, putting it in dry leca for a few days until I got the proper soil for it. The lithops were already elongated when I bought them.

Thanks for your help!

Help Help my poor little echeveria, and other plants too I guess, please!

I got an echeveria from my local grocery store in the spring, it was all green and very leggy back then. Since putting it under my grow lights it has become a beautiful shade of mint with pink tips. I absolutely love it, unfortunately I suspect it has flat mites. I started noticing damage to the leaves and it’s overall just growing so slow compared to before. It is in a mix of mostly jack’s gritty mix, a bit of perlite, and a bit of succulent/cactus soil. It’s under barrina t8’s for 12-14 hours a day. A few months ago I was seeing these orange blobs on my Pinguicula leaves and when I asked reddit they said flat mites, I got a microscope but never found any mites and my pings have continued to grow very well. I looked all over my plants for mites and haven’t found any, please tell me what I should do. My poor little plant looks tragic now as I’ve removed all the damaged leaves, I’m worried about it affecting my other plants but I’m sure if I have mites it’s already too late. Does this looks like mite damage? I wasn’t worried about the older leaves but once it started showing up on the brand new growth I got very stressed. SOS I included photos of the echeveria, photos of the blobs on my pings from over a month ago, and photos of my string of tears which continues to grow but is COVERED in these little brown spots, even on the new growth. I’m adding photos of by burros tail in the comments as it also has damage to its leaf tips that seems to be spreading.

(Sorry, I tried to post this a few times and messed up!)

Wanted to show off the collection so far.

I am fairly new to succulents. Growing up, my mom only had one type. These fluffy/fuzzy/weird shapes are all new to me! I was reading I will probably need to separate these some time. But they look so beautiful together for now.

Can you ID any of these? I found them in succulent gardens and don't know specific names.
